Went there twice in July to rent a fishing boat. The first time we went the assistant was a charm and very helpful. Unfortunately when we packed up to leave we left behind some clothes and my Scott sunglasses case with two extra set of lens. We called immediately and said we would be back in two weeks to pick up our belongings. We were assured they would keep the items until our return. When we returned the second time the owner was behind the desk and was extremely nasty to me when I inquired about my belongings. He even told me to go to Silver Lake to rent if I continued with my attitude. I was stunned and would have left but did not want to disappoint the others with me. Turns out they threw away my belongings. They gave me a sweatshirt to compensate. I am out $ 120 in lens. I will never return to the resort. I checked out the Kit Carson Lodge on Silver Lake. The managers were much friendlier and more accommodating.

This review is a bit overdue as we stayed here in early June. June is considered pre season or off season because it is still quite cold and the schools have yet to let out . Also when they complete their upgrades I am sure it would be considered at least a 4 star Unilocal review for the shear beauty! The setting is beautiful, it is the only resort on Caples Lake. There are no other homes or businesses on the lake either. We reserved a room at the Inn but when we got there they have us a cabin for only $ 10 more. They were still doing renovations at the main building and they said we would be more comfortable(less noise) in a cabin. We were the only ones at the resort the first night, one other couple checked in to another cabin the second night. The cabin was right on the lake, what a fantastic view. It’s not a high class property so get ready for«rustic«. You walk into the cabin’s front door into the bedroom and the bathroom is a separate room to the right. There is also a small table with chairs to eat at. The kitchen is fully equipped, sink, refrigerator, oven and dishes. Everything you need. They are in the process of updating the rooms at the B & B Inn and one of the guys working there said they’re in the process of doing other updates to the resort. It may not be five stars but it is rustic and comfortable and clean. Definitely my kind of place. There is a small bait and tackle shop if you want to go fishing. You can also rent kayaks. But it was too cold and windy so they didn’t allow boats on the water. I’d definitely go back!

We had stayed here ten plus years ago and we had a great time. The lake is gorgeous and the cabins have pretty much all you need. Great hiking spots all around you and Lake Tahoe is about thirty-five minutes away. The reason for the low score is due to a couple of things;the clutter on and around the cabin, i.e. Planks of lumber on our picnic table, the screen door that was tilted next to our door, shovels and other tools laying around, the condition of the deck. Right by the door, it was so weak, someone could have been hurt. The worse was the dead mouse inside a mouse trap under our bed that we found as we were getting our stuff together to leave. There was no mention of a rodent problem at our check in. No telling whether it was killed while we were there. We were there from Thursday until Sunday.

My husband and I went in August 2014 for our honeymoon/vacation. Seven years of marriage, 5 kids and have never had a honeymoon or vacation alone. We stayed in the bed and breakfast lodge, very very small, lol BUT… it was perfect for us. We don’t need much like some others, we were so grateful to be alone that we didn’t care. The lake was gorgeous, the stars at night were gorgeous. We just basically slept there and did then did some kayaking. Very very peaceful. I experienced my first sunrise too. :) If you are not a picky person at all this is the place to go. It was just beautiful scenery. The only downfall is that there are no restaurants near by unless you want to pay literally, an arm and a leg at the Kirkwood Inn. We ended up getting the remaining of our meals in South Lake Tahoe. Very nice owner and we just appreciate every second there with out fighting children and experiencing being a couple. Thank you! :)

Caples Lake is one of my favorate places to go, we love this place! Caples Lake is nestled in the high sierras and is one of the most beautiful best kept secrets around. The cabins are rustic, cozy, and spotless, with a well stocked full kitchen, and deck overlooking the lake. The staff is friendly and helpful and will make you feel right at home while making sure you have everything you need for a fun, and enjoyable stay!!! You can rent boats, Kayaks, canoes to cruse the lake and take in all the nature, or go fishing! We recently stayed at Caples Lake, caught lots of rainbow trout, and barbaqued every night while watching the sunset! There are hiking and biking trails around the lake, and many near by which are especiallly gorgeous right now because all the wild flowers are bloombing. The views on and around the lake are stunning and breathtaking, and I always come home wishing I could have stayed longer! A perfect place to bring the whole family or a romantic get away, we cannot wait fo visit again!

We just returned from a great week’s stay at Caples Lake Resort. We went with another couple who rented a cabin next to ours. The cabins were clean and had everything we needed to make our stay pleasant. There are plenty of linens, pillows, towels, etc. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking anything. There are very nice bbq’s at each cabin and nice pick-nic tables for a great dinner. We caught plenty of tasty fish and even added a 3lb trophy rainbow that was hooked in front of our cabin! One day we ventured up to Winnemuca Lake for a 2.5 mile hike which was breathtaking. The wild flowers were everywhere and the trail was nicely groomed. You can take the trail from Wood’s Lake which is very close to Caples Lake. The weather was fantastic this year and we look forward to coming again next year. Thank you John and Dave!

Caples is the place where you find relaxing and great fishing. John and Dave will make your stay the greatest ever. If you like rustic cabins right on the lake with great views and sun setting alpenglow of the mountains and the fresh pine sent in the air. If your lucky you can catch a view of eagles diving for the trout. Then you will enjoy staying here. I’m a returning visitor every year in July and October. I give the resort 5 stars for the beauty and comfort of the cabins and resort, and as well of the customer service they provide. I love the easy access to the lake myself and cabin 4 comfy bed! looking forward to July 2014.

The lake is beautiful and the owners are pleasant and helpful, but the cabins are very run down and need to be torn down. The outside of most of the buildings are weathered, the decks look as if they are ready to collapse, the hot water, we were told is «on demand» and there was no pressure. On the outside of some of the cabins, there was a great deal of junk piled up everywhere that is unsafe if you have kids who want to explore. There was a loud generator that was on for most of the night and the price for these cabins were very expensive.

Had such an amazing experience. One of us had a broken wrist AND ankle and John and Dave gave us crutches, an ice pack, and other things to make sure we were comfortable. Had no idea what to expect and it was so much fun! Had a warm and cozy Valentines Day and am definitely going to be coming back. Having such incredible access to the lake was great.

Nothing but good things to say about this place. John and Dave are great. Always accommodating and making every occasion for me special, whether it was upgrading my boyfriend and I for our anniversary or allowing us to come in late on NYE. The cabins are always clean, warm and cozy! I would live here if I could! Thanks to John and Dave for always being so nice! Can’t wait to come use this place in the summer and see what the lake and all the nature around it has to offer! I would DEFINITELY recommend this place!

Beautiful lake. Great fishing. Accommodations? Not so great. My wife and I were in cabin 7(one of the«upper scale» cabins), and found it in pretty bad shape. The deck around the cabin was nearly ready to collapse in spots. The bed, we were told, was a queen. But there’s NOWAY it was a queen(more likely a Full size). The blanket on the bed was stained with… something. Water pressure for the shower: near zero. The store to rent boats didn’t open until 7 or 8 am(long after sunrise), and closed by 6pm(long before sunset). Final comment: location is very nice, but the facilities are in desperate need of maintenance, upgrading, repair, and improvements.
