History
Established in 1964.
Bill Bitz Barbershop in the Juanita Village, Kirkland WA had its Grand Opening in June 1964. Bill Bitz ran the barbershop while Lee ran her shop, Continental Hair Design, on Mercer Island. The original barbers were Bill and his brother, Joe. In 1976, their daughter, Brenda enrolled in Folks Barber College in Renton. After taking two first place awards in the American Master Barbers Association Western competition in 1977, she graduated and began working for her dad. Bill Bitz retired in May of 1993. In August of 2002, the business was renamed to The Barber Shoppe and moved to the southwest corner of the recently redeveloped Juanita Village. The new shop incorporates antique barber chairs and a replica back bar to create an old-time nostalgic theme. Lee began managing the shop in 1994. She is now retired and lives on Whidbey Is. Lee and daughter Brenda still run the Barber Shoppe from a distance to keep the establishment family owned and operated and now for over fifty years.
