Sweet Cakes

We stopped in this cute little shop for dessert. I’ll start with saying it has a lot of potential. Really, if there’s ever a sweet shop on my path and my daughter is with me, we are stopping! I liked the variety of sweets and gluten free options available which was nice. Everything tasted good but there is just something about the shop that makes you want to take your order to go versus staying to enjoy your treat there… I guess the service could have been a little more inviting. We kinda felt like a bother but she wasn’t really rude either. It’s hard to explain. However, the place is decorated nicely and to go boxes and treats are adorable. We decided to eat our goodies at home instead. This was even at my daughters request which was an odd request coming from her. Back to the shop, they also had a few things you could purchase in the store as well, like party plates, napkins, cute thank you cards, etc. I’d consider stopping in again for a 2^nd try if we happen to be passing by it again… If it’s better experience next time, I’ll be sure to give more stars! There are so many great places to enjoy here in Seattle, with great ideas. This adorable shop is an example of just that. Again, lots of potential. So be proud business owners, people love your cute shops and want to give you their money and support. A smile goes a long way. Especially around treats, makes them taste sweeter too with no additional sugar needed:)

Cute little bakery shop downtown Kirkland with traditional and gluten free pastries. We purchased few gluten free cupcakes, which I have to admit were the best gluten free cupcakes or gluten free pastry I’ve had yet. And the frosting was delicious too!
The only reason I’m giving four stars is because of poor selection. There were lots of empty shelves. Wasted potential. Show me what you can do Sweet cakes!

Great service, the red velvet cake tasted amazing and looked super cute for my son’s birthday party. I had to take off a star in this review because they spelled «Birthday» without the «h». Attention to detail!

Found this place a few years ago and it is now our family tradition to go here for birthday cupcakes. We’ve moved about 45 minutes away and still make a special trip in 3 – 4 times a year. Have tried many of the flavors and have liked them all just fine, but none compare to the red velvet. We like to get a bunch of the minis instead of big ones. It’s the perfect balance of super moist cake and the best cream cheese frosting I’ve ever had. I think it has a bit of white chocolate or something to cut the tanginess of the traditional cream cheese frosting. My family birthday celebrations would not be complete without sweet cakes. FYI the secret to eating the mini cupcakes is to break off the bottom and put it on top of the frosting to create a little sandwich with frosting in the middle. Then each bite has the perfect cake to frosting ratio and it’s much less messy.

Great bakery for down town Kirkland. Ordered a cake for a birthday that tasted great. I had a few cake pops when I picked up the cake as well. They were highly tasty. I would suggest the red velvet or chocolate cake pops. Nice family own business and a nice staff as well.

Was so looking forward to trying the cupcakes here but was sadly disappointed. I tried two different cupcakes and they were dry and gritty, practically inedible. In fact, I and to throw mine away. The only saving grace was the shortbread cookies were decent. Overall, not worth it :(

Based off of small bites of two cupcakes, but I think I got a good idea of the general quality.
Fun location in downtown Kirkland near the Marina. The smells coming out of this place are awesome and they had plenty of stock during the middle of the day (weekday though). Lots of treats other than cupcakes too, which is always nice if you’re not feeling the cupcake craze.
I let my kids choose one each because I did not dare buy any treats for myself anymore. I’ve gained five pounds since moving here. My son chose the red velvet cupcake and my daughter the triple chocolate, which is gluten free. I ate a couple of bites each (the Mommy tax).
The red velvet was very good indeed, both the cake and the frosting. A very classic tasting red velvet cake with a cream cheese frosting. The frosting was not two sweet or dense. Cake was very light but flavorful. The chocolate cupcake was lacking. The whole thing worked only because it was entirely enrobed in chocolate ganache. The cake itself was not great (dry and granular), one of those cases of a gluten free cake that does not work. I’ve had most excellent gluten free chocolate cakes so I was quite disappointed in this.
It is also pricey so I’m giving them 3 stars.

Was recommended to try Sweet Cakes to find vegan friendly treats… To my disappointment they only had one option, which was a donut, in two flavors. We got both and they were pretty good. Not something I would go out of my way to go back for, or pay that much for a small donut.
Definitely overpriced, I mean it is downtown «Kirkland», so go figure, and I should’ve known better.

Absolutely delicous! I ordered some treats for an office get together and it was a huge success. Highly recommend the cakepops and parklane bars. Karen was my main contact and was extrememly helpful when it came to helping me fit the company budget. There is a delivery fee but hopefully with time and more business they could drop that.

I’m very upset that I got a Black and White cake from them even after reading the bad reviews. I ordered this cake in the morning and picked up at closing time. It was for my husband’s birthday and it spoiled the day.
Although I ordered for fresh cake and consumed the same night, it was tooooo dry. Icing and bread were hard and breaking in crumbles like it was days old. It wasn’t cheap that I can think of throwing. Also it’s hard to eat that cake. Can’t even call it a CAke They had nothing to write over the cake. I will never again go to this shop. Had a very bad experience. Had Unwelcoming staff as well.

Change of ownership transferring to long time baker so you know the confections will still be great. I hope they keep the free cupcakes on your birthday. We really enjoy bringing the gang in to celebrate once more on your birthday.

My boyfriend picked up my 30^th Birthday cake from this place. I LOVE cake.
It was… probably one of the most disappointing cakes I’ve ever had. Actually, I don’t remember a cake I’ve ever been disappointed by.
It was so dry I couldn’t even finish one piece. FLavorless. It was upsetting because he and I had discussed my cake so much.
They made a little «happy birthday» sign that sat on top of the cake, and it looked pretty unprofessional.
I won’t be finishing it. I hope he didn’t spend a lot on it. :(

I’ve been going into Sweet Cakes for a few years now and I really enjoy their cupcakes. My absolute favorite is the lemon. I also really like the fact that they have mini cupcakes, as a traditional sized cupcake is too much at times. Their cake is moist and the flavors really come through.
Each month brings new flavors so be aware, some choices are not always available. They do post their cupcake schedule on FB and their website.

This place is good, but its not anything to write home about. I don’t feel like their cupcakes are so good that they can justify such a high price if you’re planning on buying more than one. This is a nice place to stop for a treat but I probably wouldn’t be buying a bunch of cupcakes here unless you want to cry from the pricing.
You could say I definitely prefer Cupcake Royale over this, since they have bigger cupcakes, better cupcakes, and more unique flavors. That being said its not a bad place to stop by if you’re already walking around Kirkland and you want something sweet. I REALLY like their Park Lane bar, its probably the best thing I’ve gotten from Sweet Cakes.
The store itself doesn’t make me want to stay and eat inside. Theres something empty and cold feeling about it, even though its a relatively small place, I can’t really put my finger on it. Theres usually one or two people working and nobody is terribly friendly, but not entirely rude either. My transaction was quick and I left satisfied. I feel like they should have a bigger discount if you’re buying a dozen cupcakes but owell that was never my intent.

Aside from the great cupcakes, the Park Lane bars are scrumptious versions of the old magic bar. Hard to resist taking a couple of those home, harder to resist eating them before I get there.
The coconut cupcake with cream cheese icing is still the best cake around, GF or not.
I’ve never experienced bad customer service here… perhaps because I usually go in alone at non-​busy times of day, and am polite to and patient with the employees.

Whoopie Pies Oh my! And 3 different flavors.
A little pricey $ 13 for 3 pastries and a small coffee.
But delish.
Esp if you are lookin’ for gluten free goodies.

We ordered our wedding cake for our wedding in September of 2012.
I will break-​down my review by the variety and complexity of services:
Consultation:
2 Stars, Susanne is incredibly pompous and has a huge chip on her shoulder, she «doesn’t need your business» type of attitude. In hindsight how did we not see it?
Delivery:
5 Stars, cake arrived in perfect order at the appropriate location.
Cake:
2 Stars, the cake like many of the local bakeries cuts corners and the cake tastes bland and flavorless. Lots of sugar to mask the lack of flavor. Wasn’t impressed! But by the time you eat the cake at the wedding, it’s over and who cares right?
The Kicker:
1 Star. Susanne promised us that we would not need to save our cake topper and she would make us a free 6 inch cake that looked exactly like our wedding cake. Pretty cool right???
Well that’s where this review is coming from. Sweet Cakes will mail you this tiny little coupon a month or two early and expect you to go put it in a safety deposit box or something, and god-​forbid you happen to forget it when you show up to pick up your cake.
I was barraged, belittled, yelled at, the rudest things… all in front of other customers! We spent $ 500 at this place and our thank you was «Well you need your coupon» and she put the cake right back in the fridge.
Our experience may not be others, but personally, because of the level of aggression and failure to correct their mistakes, Susanne is a mistake for your wedding. Just go with somebody else! It isn’t worth the headache later!

Sweet cakes is a hidden gem of Kirkland area. They have the best cupcakes (better than Trophy Cupcakes or Cupcake Royale) and even have mini cheese cake (second only to Confectioners).
My personal favorite is their red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Cannot go wrong with it. It also comes in mini size if you are watching calories.
The negatives are — its a little on the pricier side, sometimes they run out of cupcakes early in the day and the elderly owner (?) is a little stuck up and not technology savvy.
