Sur La Table

I have been a customer of the Kirkland Sur La Table for quite time. I stopped going in the past year as the customer service has been spotty. I decided to give it a try again last week and had a good experience. I almost left with a new Wusthoff knife, that’s how good they were. ;) The staff was helpful, friendly and professional. Though, I did have to wait quite some time for the rep to ring me up. They were chatting away as I was standing there. I think it was the manager and the sales rep. I returned yesterday, ⁶⁄₅ with my husband to pick up a few baking tools and specifically to find edible paint. The sales rep that was helping me out was helpful and friendly. She wasn’t sure if they had edible paint, so I think she checked with her manager. I was standing in front of the food coloring stand when she returned and she told me that they only have food coloring. Ok, totally fine and I thanked her. Her manager then rushes over and points out to me, in a patronizing tone, «this is what we have, or this India Tree food coloring.» Before I could clarify that I’m looking for edible paint, she storms away. It was so odd and left me feeling like I was a dumbass. I know what food coloring is. I pretty much purchase everything from Amazon, but it’s nice to just pick up a piping tip from Sur La Table, or just some little tool. I’ll stick to Amazon. That’s where I’ll be purchasing my next KitchenAid 6500 mixer.

We recently attended the crepes class. It was wonderful! We had the best time and an amazing breakfast.

This is the one place that you can find anything, maybe with a little help, but you can find it. Great customer service!

Sur La Table will not stand behind their ceramic baking dishes made in Italy. The dish is supposed to be good up to 450 degrees, but the second time I used it at 400 degrees, it cracked all the way through and across the bottom. I attempted to exchange it at their Chestnut Hill, MA store and was totally refused because I did not have a receipt. It is their pan, and they need all kinds of proof??? The word Sur La Table etc is etched on the bottom. There is no doubt that it is their product. This is not a store I will be going back to. I got a similar response at the Braintree Shopping Mall store as well. These pleople lcharge enough, but are just too greedy. Guess I will be back to my old haunt, Williams Sonoma where the quality and service can’t be beat.

I had a great time with my first Date Night cooking class. Everyone was welcoming and really nice. The only thing I was disappointed in was the menu said Cod and we cooked Tilapia which is not one of my favorite fish. Overall though, the store is amazing and the staff is even better. Great service.

Our meat thermometer from Sur La Table broke the 2^nd time we used it. Denise, the sales associate, said she doesn’t remember them ever selling that kind (???) No record of any of the many things we purchased or the classes we have taken, but we get lots of ads, promotions and emails from the store. Wouldn’t do anything for us, even to retain a customer. Zero customer service from a store I used to love.

My husband and I just did a cooking class here and Man the food was good and afterwards the chef came out with us and if we had any questions he answered them. Will definitely be back here for more cooking classes.

One of our favorite places to shop! They have such a great variety of merchandise and the staff is knowledgable and helpful!

Things that make me happy: A custom made Japanese kitchen knife, received as a gift from my father.
Things that make me sad: Running that beautiful blade through my knife sharpener and discovering that where there was once a precision cutting instrument, there is now a jagged edge.
Things that make me happy again: The customer service at Sur La Table. I wandered in with my wounded blade, and spoke with the man at the counter, who spent some time examining it to evaluate whether or not he would risk further damage by attempting to re-​sharpen the blade. He felt he could risk one pass through his pro sharpener, and it helped the blade. So he went ahead and carefully, carefully re-​sharpened the knife.
When he was done, he gave me a lesson in proper at-​home knife care — how to re-​sharpen and how often.
He didn’t charge me a thing for all this help and knowledge.
There isn’t much more you can say about a store like that, but I’ll say a few more things anyway: Sur La Table has a great selection for the serious home cook. Yes, they have fantastic gadgets, but they also have those wonderful little things like pretty cupcake papers. I left with a bottle of food-​grade mineral oil to buff up my knife handles and wood salad bowls. The selection is marvelous.
Are the prices on the high end? On the face of it, yes. But you’re paying for customer service, which based on my experience with my knife, is absolutely first-​rate.

Let me relate to you a recent experience here:
I call the night before and ask them to set 2 items aside for me. Which they happily did. I then asked about knife sharpening. I was told the closer to the store’s opening I come in the better and they could do the sharpening as I wait. Great!
Arrived a little before 9:30 a.m. on Sunday (which is their opening time). Waited in my car and then approached the door. My watch and phone say it’s 9:30 a.m. Lady beside me checks hers and it’s the same. We would’ve still been standing there had the chef for the day’s cooking class not arrived and knocked on the door.
Woman (manager? I don’t know) comes to the door, opens it, and then tells us to come inside. I wanted to make sure of opening time and I asked if they opened at 9:30 on Sunday? She says to me and the lady beside me, well, yes, but their clocks don’t say it’s 9:30. What?
I proceed to the checkout stand where I say I have 3 knives that need sharpening. After a pained look on the same woman’s face, she tells me they can do them and have them done by the end of the day. They are busy getting ready for 3 cooking classes that day and there are only 2 of them on duty. Well, that won’t work for me. I drove here from Everett and I’m not going to spend the day waiting for sharp knives.
I told her I had called the night before and was told to come in as close to opening as possible and they could do it. Again, another pained look, argument… then she could see I wasn’t going anywhere and she grabbed them from me and said «oh, alright, we’ll do them now.» Great!
She passes them off to another gal who uses an electric sharpener to sharpen my Wusthoff knives. Whatever…
When she is finished, I say, oh, by the way I have 2 things held for me and I want to buy another Wusthoff knife. All in all, it comes out to a little less than $ 300!
I thank the woman for sharpening my knives and taking the time to do so. She then, again, proceeds to tell me how busy they are and it’s better if you can leave the knives. Well — what would I use to cook with then?
My point in all of this? Does Sur La Table want to be a cooking class place or a cookware retail place? One or the other if you cannot prep food and items the day before or at least hours before your store opens. One or the other if you cannot, or will not, staff the place. By the time we left (about 20 – 30 minutes later) — the store was crawling with people who wanted to BUY things, not cook things.
I have bought many many many items from this place over the last few years and spent quite a pile of cash. Sometimes experience is good and sometimes bad. This one was the worst, even my Husband said so.
Maybe it’s just better to order stuff on line (not necessarily from here?) — because then you don’t have to deal with the attitude (s).

Best customer service ever!!! And they price match. They exchange any defective products and I love that they are able to pull up your previous receipts, so no worries abt saving them.

Went in for a meat thermometer. Was greeted by more than 2 different people at different times, and not in a pushy way either. They all asked me if they could help me find anything, but I just wanted to poke around myself. The third person to ask me also offered me coffee! They had a little espresso stand in the back and it was delicious.

I didn’t think a kitchen store could be so cool, but this place is ice cold!
I came here knife shopping with my hubz, and instead of just telling me the different benefits and features of chef knives, they actually let me cut with them and brought out different veggies to aid in my decision. That alone was enough to impress me.
Not to mention, the tons of accessories, limitless choices on kitchen appliances, and my very adorable mason jar shot glasses, this place rocks it in the culinary options!

OMG I just love this store! I could spend a whole day in this store. The staff is friendly and the customer service is superb. I’ve taken a lot of cooking classes and I have yet to be disappointed. I would say my two favorite instructors are Marion and Gillian.
I am glad I don’t live in Kirkland because I would be going to this store everyday!

Just a quick note to give big props to Sur la Table for their customer service. I had bought a knife from a different Sur la Table store in California and found that, out of the box, it just wasn’t quite sharp enough for my liking. Brought it in to the folks at the Kirkland Sur la Table, explained the situation and they gladly accepted the challenge.
Three days later I picked my Miyabi knife back up again after it had been sharpened up with a Japanese whetstone. And this sucker is scary sharp now. Absolutely perfect.
The folks at the Kirkland Sur la Table are super friendly, and unparalleled professionals. I’m definitely a fan and will be back every chance I get.

Literally one of my favorite stores in the whole world. Cooking and baking is a huge hobby of mine, so Sur La Table is like a fantasy play land for me!
They have everything that you can possible need or want to fulfill your culinary dreams. There is a section for everything. Cookware, baking, coffee machines, cutlery, etc. There is even a section for specialty and unique items such as truffle oil and fleur de sel.
When I come here i generally come alone because I can spend hours here and spend a ridiculous amount of money… they really should have a rewards card! They do have great sales here a couple times a year. They also have a lot of markdown and sale items in store as well. If you sign up for the mailing list you’ll know when sales are, they also send you a birthday coupon, which is nice.
I have taken a couple classes here and they are pretty fun and informative. I really liked the Thai cooking class, i no joke learned how to make the BEST peanut sauce!
The Kirkland location is my favorite one. Its nice and big and does not feel as cluttered as the Seattle location. Service is nice and helpful. There is also plenty of parking on the streets and in the lot across the street so it makes it more convenient. I’m pretty sure I will find an excuse to come again, as a matter of fact I think I am out of Vanilla Bean Paste…

This place is so dangerously fun! I always end up walking out with more baking tools and cookware than I can possibly need =)My friends and I have been taking a few of their baking classes in the last few months; specfically the croissant w/​Chef Marian and macaron w/​Chef Michelle.
Both chefs are really great and have lots of knowledge about french baking. I love how much room there is in the Kirkland store shop compared to the original store in Seattle. Everyone at the store is very friendly and try to help you find what you may or may not need =) I can wait to take more baking classes!

They pretty much have every kitchen item you need. I want to buy everything. It is very pricey, but most items are of really good quality. And that’s that.

The store nearest us closed so we jumped when we saw this one.
As always, I was warmly greeted, helped with my dumb questions, learned something and bought some cool stuff.
Skip «Williams Sonoma.» Shop at Sur La Table for your kitchen and cooking tools. Better prices, more fun shopping experience. I love the quality and selection of merchandise and love the helpful ladies who work here. Two thumbs, way up!

Ok so I LOVE Sur La Table, it’s no secret. Kirkland is especially nice, and quite large. I may drool every time I visit :) The only reason I’m giving it four stars is because it’s just so darn expensive, but the prices don’t keep me away.
The staff is always knowledgeable and they have the most fabulous cooking classes. The classes are also VERY expensive but you actually are involved in the cooking and get to use top of the line equipment, PLUS you get a 10% discount in the store the day of your class ;)
Parking, as with all of Kirkland, is dumb! I haven’t really found a good solution for this so I when I want to visit I just suck it up and go.
