We are a locally– and family-​owned catering and events firm that makes amazing wedding cakes and desserts, and can host parties and morale events. We customize your menu to your budget and tastes– no pre-​fab menus. Our cakes offer over 20 gourmet flavors, including Irish Cream Chocolate, Red Velvet, and Orange Creamsicle.

We can host your event in our elegant 80-​person venue in Kirkland, or we can bring the party to you! Chef Matt is amazing– let us create your unforgettable event.

History

Established in 2006.

Chef Matt is a former Microsoftie who decided to follow his dream and become a chef in 2004. After a yearlong chef apprenticeship, he had the rare opportunity to create Starry Nights Catering & Events in Kirkland.

Starry Nights is Matt’s dream of a small, high-​quality caterer creating unique menus for each client, and amazing desserts and wedding cakes. But more than that, Chef Matt and Starry Nights love food, and strive to present the best possible customer experience. Most clients come to us for once-​in-​a-​lifetime events; we believe food should be as memorable as your event!

After a yearlong culinary apprenticeship in the Seattle area, I have travelled the world to experience exotic cuisines. I have attended cooking schools in Thailand; Bali, Indonesia; Hoi An, Vietnam; and Paris. I love to be challenged with new cuisines and cake ideas.

I had the opportunity to personally ask Matt to prepare a birthday cake for my husband in June 2012. With less than 2 weeks left for his birthday dinner, I was in a bind and needed someone who was not only willing but able to deliver on such short notice. Matt was of great help and we went back and forth a couple of times over email to get the concept, design and colors of the cake as accurate as possible. It was a pleasure working with him because he understood just exactly what I was looking for!
We had a round topsy-​turvy 3D red velvet (2 tiers: 6″ round on a 10″ round) with a cream cheese filling and let me tell you, it was insanely delicious! My biggest fear was of the fondant: I absolutely dislike sweet fondant fillings for the exterior of a cake but understand that it is necessary to maintain a cake’s integrity and design. Anyway, Matt assured me that he uses a not-​so-​sweet version of the fondant in his cakes and he was right: I didn’t even notice the fondant and more importantly, I didn’t end up with a toothache after devouring the cake.
I highly recommend Matt’s cakes because he understands and respects his customers over and above everything else which, is so important to make your event stress-​free and memorable!

We worked with Starry Nights for a regional event for our alumni. Matt was attentive, detail-​oriented, kind, and professional throughout. From the first contact to the last, customer service was top-​notch.
The desserts at the event were fantastic, and several of our guests continue to rave about the macaroons!
We hosted our event in the catering space — a great hidden gem, easy to get to, easy to find off of I-​405.
If given the chance, we’d work with Matt and Starry Nights again!
No reservations in giving them 5 stars!

This review is for the cake.
My fiancé has purchased two b-​day cakes from them: one for 2009 and the other just few days ago. They are the same black forest cakes and tasted GREAT i am very impressed with the consistent quality.
The 3 layers cake has two different fillings with buttercream frosting. You can tell the cake is made by high quality ingredients and taste great by itself rather than heavy shortening and sugar. The frosting is so creamy and smooth that the baker added a very nice decorating border. The cake overall looks nice and very classy!
So far this is really the best of birthday cakes i have ever had. Although the price is steep ($ 65 for 8″ cake serving 10 – 12 vs. $ 25-​high 30’s at most bakeries) and need a week advance notice or depends on his schedule. It is absolutely worths it!

Starry Nights did an outstanding job on our wedding cake one year ago. I’m headed to their bakery this afternoon to pick up our complimentary anniversary cake (way better than the freezer method I’m assuming).
We really enjoyed our tasting (6 different kinds and helpful recommendations) and ended up getting the hazelnut cake. Our friends and family really enjoyed and we had an overall great experience.

I purchased a Groupon for a lemon cake, and I was absolutely delighted with the cake I received. The cake looked awesome — very elegant!
The frosting and filling was delicious!
I had no problem with the ordering process. The cake was ready on time, and the person who helped me was friendly and professional.

I ordered a cake for my wedding here last year and they did a beautiful job designing the cake how I wanted. I was able to bring in sample photos and described the wedding theme and they catered it accordingly. I’m not a huge cake person but they did have tiramisu, my favorite and that was delicious. The BEST part though was getting a FREE and FRESH anniversary cake on our one year, it was so exciting… and they tried to duplicate it to the original as best as they could. How awesome is that! Who wants to eat nasty frozen leftover cake that’s been sitting in the freezer for a year anyways!

Had a Christmas party here. Very little parking. If you are having a large party, space inside is very tight. Bar is in a very small room. 1 bathroom behind bar and threw the kitchen. Main course’s were served in random order. Some people were done eating while others were just getting served there cold, salty, fatty steak and cold fish. A smaller party might be a different experience but i will not be back.

I commissioned Starry Nights to do a cake for my husband’s birthday. We were originally going to do just a standard cake, but then I thought it would be a great idea to do something really creative (I have to admit I was inspired by all of those cake shows on TV). I did a little brainstorming with Matt (who is very responsive via email and phone) and we decided to do a SUSHI cake since my husband is such a fan. Matt got in touch with his pastry chef Heather who was up for the challenge (she is such a cool girl by the way). I sent them some pictures I found on the internet for inspiration, and let me just say, THEY FAR EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS of what my cake would be.
Every part of the cake was beautiful, authentic looking and edible! The wasabi, ginger, sushi rolls, nigiri, even the tray and chopsticks!!! It was absolutely gorgeous and when they were setting it up at the restaurant where we were having the party, everyone was in awe and our friends and the other patrons just couldn’t stop talking about it. We all kept saying we felt like we were on on Cake Boss but BETTER!
And the taste was absolutely perfect– not too sweet which is exactly what my husband likes. He loves berries so we went with a version of the Northwest cake– white cake, strawberry mousse, white chocolate YUM.
Thanks Matt and Starry Nights for helping me to make my husband’s birthday so special! I think this might become a tradition and I will be in touch next year to see what the creative genius at Starry Nights can come up with next time! =)

The first interaction I’ve had with Starry Nights was at a BNI meeting last week. Matt served up some delicious cupcakes that seemed like it had egg custard in it. On top, he added a light whipped frosting that just melted on your tongue.
I’m usually not a fan of desserts, and I regret just grabbing one prior to leaving the event! It was SOOOO good!

Chef Matt and his staff are phenomenal… easily the best of all of the vendors we worked with while planning our November 2009 wedding. The cake was delicious… we had the ‘Pacific Northwest’ (a strawberry with vanilla bean cake) and the other flavor being a white cake with lemon-​curd filling… amazing. I am heading back to Starry Nights next Saturday to pick up a Valentine’s Day cake… love love love them! Even for my small, $ 18 Vday cake, Chef Matt called me back personally. Very attentive staff and great work! Our guests were very impressed and I still get comments about our wedding cake on facebook!
I highly recommend SNC to anyone planning a wedding.

We are using Starry Night Catering for our Wedding Cake. We wish we could have used them for our catering also, for Matt is a terrific guy. I will update this post after the wedding has occured, but Matt truly knows the meaning of customer service. He was has been the quickest to respond to me or my fiancé. All other caterers/​bakers could take up to a week to respond, but we knew that whenever we contacted Matt, he’d be responding within 24 hours.
Matt has even been willing to help us out with other planning. When it was discovered he was booked for catering, he gave us advice as to what dishes he could make in our price ranger and then told us a list of other questions we should ask caterers to get the total cost for the event.
When we did the tasting event, all of his cakes were moist and delicious. He is very creative and was giving tips as to how we could make my fiancé’s dream cake into an astonishing cake without using fondant. His Butter Cream was excellent. Didn’t taste like I was eating a stick of butter. Very sweet and light.
We ended up deciding on his chocolate cake and his lemon cake for our two flavors.
Starry Nights offers a lot of ways to get a discount on the price of your cake, from paying in cash, to paying 120 days prior to the event. If you are lucky enough to get him to cater your wedding or rehearsal dinner, you can get even more money off.

I organized a work event with Starry Nights upon a co-​workers recommendation! My team had about 20 people who carpooled over to their kitchen in Kirkland and got to work. We worked in stations, cooked, ate, drank and had tons of fun. Roasted lamb, butternut squash soup, ratatouille, tapenade were some of the standouts in my mind… I can’t believe we all helped cook everything. Afterwards we even took some home to share with our families. The staff was marvelous and Matt was easy to work with. Great team building event!

I couldn’t disagree more with the previous reviewer. All my interactions with Matt and the Starry Night Catering team an absolute dream.
I have dealt with them on multiple occasions, and each time not only are they on time, but the food is absolutely delicious.
My first engagement with Starry Nights was for a cake for my birthday. I was unsure of what I wanted, but listed off a bunch of flavors that I liked and asked them to «surprise me». Matt stuck with something traditional, a black forest cake, and completely knocked my socks off. It was the best birthday cake I’ve had, next to the ones that I remember my mother making for me as a child. Since those childhoods cakes can never be beat anyways, Starry Nights was in an unfair fight :)
I can’t recommend Starry Night Catering more highly. Very professional and always deliver on time and within budget.
