Handyman On-Time

Very professional and ON TIME! Fred helped me to hang a mirror and finish assembling a piece of furniture I was too lazy/​busy to finish. He even helped with a portable air conditioner I had installed in my window improperly. Great experience. I’ll call him again next time I need help.

We needed to replace a non-​functioning ventilation fan on the third floor of our townhouse. Fred was very responsive to our email for a quote. He was also very communicative during both the quote and installation process. He would send email appointment confirmations for both, the day before.
Fred has professional skills. More importantly, Fred has people skills. And that is important to me. He’s an interesting, honest and well-​rounded person. He’s cool guy. Really cool. It’s a good combination to possess.
Fred should change his name to Handyman Early. He arrived early for the quote. He also arrived early to complete the job. Call Fred if you want things done on time. Or even early.

UPDATE: He showed up and got super defensive that I hadn’t responded to his confirmation email (sent at 11pm the night before our 9am appt) I said please, just fix the washing machine I’ve really been counting on this. Then I made a bank run because I was out of checks and wanted to pay him. When I got back, he had left AND LEFT MY BUSINESS OPEN/​UNLOCKED WITH NOBODY IN IT without calling or texting me or anything.
Ironic name for this business considering this is the second week in a row I’m waiting for this guy to actually show up. Last week he didn’t come at all and this week, he’s already half an hour late. I rushed over to make sure these repairs got done before business hours. He berated me for not responding to the confirmation email that he sent last night at 11pm… when I was already in bed BECAUSE I HAD TO GET UP EARLY TO MEET HIM, WHICH WAS APPARENTLY A WASTE OF TIME BECAUSE HE’S NOT HERE.
I will update this and increase the rating if he actually ever decides to show up and fix anything, as agreed in our original email on March 2, over two weeks ago!

DFred is a true man of integrity and a wonderful person.
The moment he walks in you could easily tell that Fred was not your average handyman, he exudes a kindness and authencity that is far too rare. He was (of course) on time, professional, friendly and polite, neat, and all the things you could ask for and more. He puts his heart in his work no matter how small the job, like even hanging up posters on the wall– I’ll never forget all the tools he took out and how he measured every angle and distance from whatever possible to ensure that everything was perfect. He was very detail oriented even with the bigger projects, and even when I thought something looked good enough he would take it to a much better state.
What also surprised me was when I sent him an email letting him know that I appreciated all he has done, he replied in a most grateful manner that was professional but ‘real’.
I can’t recommend Fred enough, it’s worth the wait!

that beat my expectation. The dry wall repaired was perfect and he worked very hard to make sure everything get taken care of during the repair process. After the repair, he replied email on time and also help us to scan, sign and take care of some insurance forms.
The rates and charges are very reasonable and exactly the same as the original estimate offered.
We will definitely use him again in the near future, and always recommend him to my co-​workers in Microsoft.

Moved to Washington from out of State and needed repairs, and various jobs done for my house. Fred showed up on time and did a great job. My impression is that he is a nice guy and stands by his work.

Fred fixed a broken kitchen cabinet (door had fallen off and needed a replacement hinge) and a broken bedroom door (screws in hinge had stripped out and the door frame needed to be repaired and the door rehung) for us at our condo.
Fred is a great communicator and is very neat and detail-​oriented and completely trustworthy in all the senses of that word including workmanship and general integrity. He’s a pleasure to work with because of his friendliness and professionalism. He took care of all the work on-​time and his rates were very reasonable — well worth it IMO.

I had to get an exhaust fan and a toilet replaced, along with some miscellaneous electrical work and drywall repair in my bathroom. Looked around for reviews on Unilocal and decided to call Handyman On Time. Fred gave me a quote and mentioned that there was a wait of three weeks or so because they were booked up weeks in advance, and I decided to wait since it wasn’t an emergency.
His communication was excellent — he responds to emails and pictures and gave me quick updates about exactly when he can arrive, and was right on time.
I’m glad I waited! Fred is excellent at what he does. and the quality of work was excellent. He’s a hard worker and when he found that the electrical work that I needed wasn’t as easy as expected, (a whole new line needed to be pulled and a new breaker had to be installed to support the load) he quoted me a very fair price for the additional work that he had to do. I asked about replacing a sink and he actually suggested that it’s better to have the existing layout instead of getting the new kind I wanted — I just ended up repairing it and that saved me a lot of money. I love the fact that he did not try to oversell me on anything. He even ran and got the best fan that he could when he found that the fan that he originally planned to install couldn’t be installed because of structural restriction in my building.
Fred is also a very hard worker. My fan repair took longer than expected but he was gracious and stayed late and made sure everything was finished off and working properly, instead of having me take another day off, and worked a 12 hour day doing not-​so-​light physical work. The wall was repaired perfectly, I couldn’t see the joining line even after I knew where it might be and looking at it from up close.
I also appreciated his kindness, we chatted about a bunch of stuff while he was working and he’s just a great person overall — very polite and friendly, extremely patient and has no sign of «attitude» that some other contractors tend to have when I’ve asked them questions or advice about repairs. He was more than willing to give detailed tips on how to do certain things myself if the need arose. He offered to come take a look if I wasn’t fully satisfied after everything dried/​settled, but I didn’t have a reason to call him afterwards because everything turned out perfectly.
More than six months later, the items that he installed are in top shape and never once had I any problems with any of the installations. I would definitely contact him again for any future work to be done on my condo. Now I know why his business is booked weeks or months in advance. His work is definitely worth the wait.

Ditto what everyone else has said! I found Fred (luckily) on Unilocal and he is everything that people have said: courteous, conscientious, knowledgeable, and does exactly what he promises. Talked me down off a ledge when my kids broke a stranger’s window and just an all around trustworthy provider. I rarely experience service people who can be good at both the work and the customer service, and Fred has them both down. Huge 5 stars.

Fred is amazing! He is the most dependable and skilled handyman/​contractor that I have ever worked with. I found out about him through my realtor (he doesn’t advertise and gets all his work through word of mouth) and he agreed to come over for a walkthrough. Our house is over sixty years old and needed a variety of repairs, some major, some minor, as we prepared to put it on the market. Fred took his time reviewing all the work items on our list, taking notes and photographing everything. He noticed several additional items and also has great suggestions about some items that he thought could be left as-​is. He is a licensed contractor and incredibly versatile. He was able to take on work as small as repairing a broken socket and as big as opening up a ceiling to replace plumbing and repair water damage (and much bigger items that you can see on his website but we, luckily, didn’t need).
Fred’s work is meticulous, with incredible attention to detail. Everything was completed to 110% of our expectations. His schedule is packed but, when we received some last-​minute requests from our realtor for minor additional fixes, he somehow found time on a Sunday to swing by and complete the additional tasks for a very reasonable fee. It is clear to me that the most important part of the work for him is that we are happy with the result and that our house is in the best shape possible to be put on the market. He even put in a small decorative touch at the front of our garden that he assured us would focus positive energy leading up to a sale :)
You may have to be patient to get on Fred’s calendar, but I assure you that it is well worth the wait. If you are tired of undependable contractors and half-​finished work, Fred is the cure for what is ailing you!

My experience with Fred was great. I called him because I needed help with a small project (reattaching the smoke detector to the ceiling). After explaining the project to him over the phone and texting him a few pictures, he offered to talk me through how to complete the project myself, for free! With his help, I was able to reattach our smoke detector and not have to pay someone to do it. Fred was professional and kind over the phone. He returned my calls and texts promptly. My husband and I will not hesitate to call him again!
