CANVAS! paint & sip studio

So complicated… but here it is. First, I made an appt in a heat of passion for a seahawk paint session and then realized I had to attend my daughters recital. Within 30 min’s I tried to cancel, called, emailed… and they said they could only give me a credit. Not my first choice, but ok. Then I tried to use my 2 party credit «value around $ 80″ and it was complicated. Unfortunately, had to cancel (would have loved a refund). They told me, no more reschedules. Next time is do or die. (ok…really?). So I schedule another one… only to get a „sorry not enough people signed up for it… class canceled“. Ok, party downer. but ok. So I made an appt for an appt for a Mimosa morning appt (screen shot saved) of mimosa morning for $ 3.oo a Mimosa throughout the event» (again screen shot saved — verified for proof). We got a call that the session was going to be at the Heathman Hotel (sp?) instead of the normal studio. (no problem. ok). My girlfriend shows up in «painting garb» and… feels a little out of place. now that it isnt in a studio. (I get it, I had a black gym jacket that helped ease the scenario). So we get there and we are so excited to have a day of Mimosa’s for $ 3 a pop and paint! VERY SADLY. we walk in and all of a sudden the MIMOSA are $ 8.00 a glass??? WTF? (sugarbeets — that is MORE than DOUBLE!!!)…So we go with it, because we are making a good memory, we do not want to get into a fricking «WTF» scenario… cause that would be a mood killer. So we sit down, and all is good (besides the alcohol screwage) and… noticed that the «example up for all of us to paint»…was not what was advertised on the website (seriously…I know my version wasnt going to look like what was «advertised» on the website… but they should «start» with that same example. (disappointing) So we rallied with it… being «peacebuilders». So. then we made the best of our time. and then went home and realize we had got «SCREWED». Fortunately, I had a screen shot of the «calendar details» on my phone that I sent to my friend, inviting her to this — because… when I called to not complain. but to say i was confused… because it was «advertised» as this… but when I got there… it was not deal (and not $ 3 per but $ 8 per???). …So in contacting the owner «MJ». we went round and round and sadly… she 1) did not think that we signed up for the «$ 3 mimosa event» …cause according to her… that was a special that was over.” Im like, well I can appreciate that, but when I «signed up per your web site» …promotion was still advertised. Sadly, she said «I must be mistaken, because that «promotion» was for last quarter. And I say, Im totally cool with promotion schedules — however… this ended up showing up when I booked. Sadly, if I did not have my «screen shot» that this is what was true… I was told… too bad too sad. So the saga continues. She amazingly calls back and says… well, you are right. and I would like to offer you 10.95 for your Mimosa expenditures. Which, I will give credit to her… effort…however, Really!!!0.95 makes no sense to me… but thank you. My girlfriend and I had budgeted for 3 (weak) mimosa’s a piece — and that is what we ordered regardless of the screwage — because… we were going to have our intended good time. MJ, …made weird excuses left and right (and more power to her). However, being a professional, if «your business screws a patron» I have always been taught to make it right vs. negative feedback. She offered to give us 11.00 for the miscommuincation — and I appreciate that. However that really didn t cover the cost of the mis-communication…because my guest and planned on have 3 drinks each, which would have been,(per her advertisement $ 3/ea…a total of 9 each, or 18 per the event. It ended costing us. $ 8 per person, (plus tip because we are decent a buck a pour). So instead of 3 drinks costing us the advertised price of $ 3/​per, it was $ 8/​per. Thus we came for 3 drink per in mind, for a total of $ 18. (plus tip tbd) and ended up paying…$ 48 in mimosa cost (no tip included). This seems wrong on so many levels. I called MJ and gave her an opportunity to avoid a negative review… she she opted to save a few dollars… so more power to her. I offered up a «best business practice alternative to our conflict» and she chose to ignore me. So… sadly…I write this review

Enjoyed the painting lesson and the time spent with my co workers. The atmosphere is cheery and inviting. A safe place to explore your artistic side.

Had a fun painting class here with some girlfriends but was bummed that there was no food and wine included with the $ 40 class price.

Love this place, so much fun! I’m horrible at art and even I produced a great painting. You get wine and appetizers and listen to music. Will go back again

Really fun place to go for a date night, meet up with friends or a work gathering. You get a free beverage and after that can continue to purchase more (decently priced too). You don’t need to be super creative for your painting to turn out good because you follow along step by step. I’ve been a few times and I’ll be going back again!

Such a fun experience! Met up with some of my photographer friends to try our hand at a different art medium. The price includes the canvas, paint, one glass of wine or a mimosa, and the instructor. I liked the flow of the event. First you get in and find a seat and grab a drink. My mimosa was pretty strong which was perfect because I’m a total lightweight and that’s about all I need to get my creative juices flowing. Next they explain the process and get you started painting. In between each painting step they give you time to paint and chat with your friends. You all paint the same picture although I did see some «Monets» who just could not be confined by the artistic limitations and they were using different colors or some were even painting completely different pictures so don’t feel like you have to stifle what your heart wants to express on the canvas! The space was great for the amount of people they have for each class. Did not feel too cramped or suffocated. The interior walls are decorated with paintings and is colorful and lively. Definitely a great activity for a group!

My boyfriend and I went to Canvas last night for the first time and it had a great environment. The staff was very friendly and the studio was well lit with cute paintings strung around the room.
If you’ve ever done a painting a sipping class, this is your typical session. The reason I couldn’t give it more stars is because it was on the pricier side of others I have done before and there are no drinks included. Oh and there were no appetizers anywhere :/​
I’ve done a class at a place up the street that cost a few dollars less, includes your first drink and they had yummy little appetizers and sweets out during the whole session. It’s just not as fun when you’re paying an extra $ 21 for 2 beers and a tiny glass of wine on top of the $ 40 per person.

If you’re like me and want to find new ways to spend a night out, CANVAS is a great option. All of these painting classes are popping up around the area, but this one is still one of my favorites.
You really don’t need to have any creative inclination or ability to join in on the fun. The studio chooses pictures that are not only easy to re-​create, but look great as a finished product. You can view the chosen painting up to a month in advance on their website calendar. I would recommend reserving at least a week in advance as popular nights book out fast (this place is kind of a magnet for birthday parties, GNO’s, etc. and they grab most of the seats).
Things to consider before you arrive:
–parking: it’s a bit difficult to find parking in downtown Kirkland especially on weekend nights. There is a lot across the street from the studio that offers parking for $ 4 after 5:30 PM if you can’t find anything on the street. Allot yourself some extra time for this part.
–clothing: They give you aprons, but I wouldn’t wear anything too fancy just in case!
–Food/​drink: They don’t offer any food options, but there is a bar in the back (not a full bar by the way). All drinks are a la carte.
Other notes:
–Space while painting: Table space is at a premium, as they try to cram as many easels as possible onto one table. Visability is still great as far as seeing the instructor’s paiting up front, however, it’s easy to place your cell phone or other belongings on the palette with all of your paint on it. Yikes!
–Ambiance: It very much feels like a paint studio/​art gallery with great lighting, décor, and upbeat music. I’m definitely a fan!

Best to find a deal on groupon or a similar site for a night of paint and a drink. Location seems more spacious than the Fremont one. Parking available. Like that they somewhat go through some steps with you to show you how to paint the canvas of the night. However it goes quit fast so not for the perfectionist artist. Seating is a bit snug, they squeeze in many painters for a small table. Would be nice if it was more spread out so you don’t feel cramped.

I reserved 2 spots for Friday 9/​19, for my husband and I. We were celebrating our anniversary by doing something fun and new. I had also arranged babysitting for that night. They called me on Wednesday, saying they had cancelled the class. On their website they posted that the class was sold out. Well, happy anniversary to us. I’m not happy with them. We were so looking forward to it :(

I love art and I love coffee. I am not much of a painter, however, I do by canvas paints when I make thick card stock greeting cards as I feel that professional paint when making greeting cards don’t fade as quickly. The prices here were $$$ but they carry a decent line. You can even buy coffee here at the same time as your art supplies… how west coast of them. I talked to the guy for a good 20 minutes about art and crafting. Really chill people.

What a fun experience. I didn’t feel rushed and I walked away feeling very pleased with myself. I also think the instructor on July 10^th did a fantastic job leading us through the painting while also helping us out and maintaining a fun vibe. It was such an enjoyable experience that my friends and I have already made plans for painting night #2 Great location too. Right in downtown Fremont near many local restaurants.

I came here with a friend because we bought a groupon deal. Neither of us are good at drawing or painting, but canvas painting was actually pretty easy and our paintings didn’t turn out terrible. I think there were about 20 people and out of that, there were maybe 3 – 4 guys. Once you have a little to drink and start following the instructor, everything seems to fall into place (visually). The instructor would walk around and help people with their paintings. Overall, my friend and I had a great time and a great painting to remember the evening.

I had an awesome time here! I went back for my second class tonight cause I thought the first one was so great.
For the first class, we had a Delta Gamma event where we painted anchors. It was really fun and I highly enjoyed it. It’s really easy to mingle with friends, and you don’t feel rushed, so it’s really just a great time!
For this second class I went to tonight, I went with my husband and we painted starry night Paris style. It was awesome! Mine looked awesome (in my humble opinion), and it was my husband’s probably first time painting in his life and he did a great job as well.
They give you really easy instructions, and really re-​enforce that you can make it look however you want to which makes it really easy to enjoy yourself and not worry if it doesn’t look like the examples.
I’ll definitely be back again! I think the instructors are nice and helpful, the bartenders have been great, and it really just is a fun time.

I had seen this shop quite a few times during my visits to downtown Kirkland, but had never realized what it was.
It’s a very fun little place with a very fun attitude. It was nice to enjoy an evening painting with adult beverages included — whenever I think of painting, I think of it as generally a childrens’ activity, so no booze. The appeal of Canvas, at least to me, IS the booze! It was very relaxing to enjoy a glass (and later on, a bottle) of wine and paint leisurely in a low pressure atmosphere. My painting looked nothing like what it was supposed to be, but I knew it wouldn’t. I have little artistic talent, so I wasn’t looking to come away with a masterpiece. The experience is what I was there for.
The first glass of wine is included in price, but more is available for purchase. I bought a bottle that I sipped throughout the evening and then took home with me. The place is clean, nicely lit, and plenty big enough to paint.
It was a very nice experience that I will be repeating very soon.

I’ll agree with some of the other negatives reviewers have left, but on the whole, my experience was pretty fun.
We had no problems redeeming our Living Social vouchers through the website, though I was surprised at having to pay an extra charge for tax as I don’t believe it was mentioned on the voucher.
As mentioned, the seating arrangements here are pretty ridiculous. The tables are barely wide enough to hold two easels back to back, much less have room to set your drinks or paint. I knocked my neighbors painting over accidentally when trying to adjust mine (luckily he caught it and there was no damage done) and I felt like I was going to get my elbow in my husband’s painting the entire night. I understand the need to have x number of people per class to make it worth it, but then perhaps you should arrange your space better so there is room for some additional tables.
Other than that, you get all the suplies, a cheerful instructor, and a beautiful painting at the end of the night. Our instructor was full of energy and enthusiasm, gave clear directions, and came around to check on everyone between each step. For the folks using different colors than her display, she was even giving tips about shades, etc. The music probably depends on the instructor, but I thought it was great, though slightly loud.

I have to say that I am pretty fortunate to have been invited to not one, but two work holiday parties this year. The first one with my co-​workers took place at CANVAS! which is a painting studio in Kirkland. To be more specific, it is a drink/​sip while you paint studio.
The studio was rented out specifically for our event. We had some yummy catered lunch here before we started painting. This is not one of those painting studios in which you have to create your own imagination on what to paint. Instead, you are taught how to paint/​copy one of the paintings that they have on the walls. It is a bit of a Kinkadeian experience as a result.
Had a choice between two paintings to paint. One with wine bottles and glasses and one with mountains, fields and aspens. Decided to do the second painting.
There were two instructors. One for each painting. While we painted and drank, they played fun music to get us in the mood. The painting was done on a 16×20 canvas in which after we finished, we could take it home to put on the wall.
It had been well over a decade since I last painted anything. I am not much of an artist, but I have to say that I enjoyed this event very much. Painting had a very therapeutic and calming effect on me. My job is very precise, so painting felt good knowing that I could be sloppy. There was no wrong way to paint. The fact that the painting was a bit abstract allowed me to paint it like Pollock.
The painting was not very difficult to master. I think anyone can paint as long as they follow the instructor. Our group was large though, so there was not much 1 on 1 time for assistance. Fortunately, since I was sitting in front I was able to see what the instructor was doing. Though it was difficult for the people in back to follow since they could not see the painting very well.
I really enjoyed myself at CANVAS! I am not much of a talker (more of a writer obviously), so painting was really a great activity for a holiday event. And now I finally have some art (that I created) to put on the wall of my house!

This place was super fun.
I bought a LivingSocial deal for me along with 3 of my friends. We had so much fun! Less than a month later, I was invited to go again with some other folks, and it was even better.
You get all the equipment you need, and the instructor walks you through each step of the painting. Think of it like a pilates class. You watch her, then you do it yourself. Everyone ends up feeling stupid and hating their own painting, so if that’s what’s stopping you from going, then with all due respect, get over it! :) Every painting ends up different and unique and your own style. And that is the best!
In between each «step» of painting, they crank up the music and the energy and vibrancy of this place is just awesome. It’s hard not to get sucked in and enjoy yourself, even if you started off in a bad mood.
I will say that the food provided is kind of lame. It’s squares of cheese, crackers, brownies, and apple slices or salsa and chips. The wine is also some of the freaking WORST wine I have ever had. I love red wine, but this stuff actually made me gag. The sweeter whites are the way to go if you want to drink anything at all. The staff is super nice though, and they actually patiently let me sample each one — just unfortunate I didn’t like any of them. I still recommend going!!!

Hey look at me! I’m an artiste!
I brought a girlfriend here and didn’t really know what to expect. Signed up for a class on their website and it was easy. We came here on a Friday and the theme was to paint a funky tree.
As you walk in, you will notice paintings all over the walls. Mostly cute and happy paintings. There were small bites like chips and salsa, strawberries, cheese and crackers, and brownies. Up at the counter, they check you in and find a spot for you to sit. Yes, the tables were quite tight. There was barely any room for your drink, your brushes, your paint, your easel and water cup, but it worked.
The class was quite fun. My friend and I shared a bottle of wine. The music was blasting and at times I was dancing and singing and just having a lot of fun. The instructor taught us in steps. I missed some steps because I wasn’t paying attention at times, but she walks around and would answer questions if we had any. At the end of class we all took a group picture with all of our paintings. There were about 30 people in the class.
I noticed one lady didn’t paint her painting as instructed. It was the same concept but she used different colors which I liked better. So if you come here, don’t feel like you have to use the same colors as instructed, use your favorite or something that matches your décor at home. It’s your painting that you get to take home so you can paint whatever you want on it. The class is so easy, you don’t need any painting experience at all. There is no limit on how much paint you use either and you don’t have to clean up. I felt bad about my mess and helped cleaned up anyway.
My friend said it was one of the best dates ever! Too bad I’m not a guy. LOL. I can’t wait to come back here again to play.

First of all, I can’t believe no one has reviewed this place. Canvas paint and sip is truley amazing! The first time I went here I took their class. Everyone who worked here was extremely helpful and very friendly, even for me who is a beginning, very beginning painter. They make you feel like you can paint anything! During the class they show you many techniques and everyone else who was there was also having a blast.
After I took the class, a week later my sister and I went to the open paint and painted the Seattle skyline. It looked very intimidating but the lady who was there was SO helpful and encouraging. Even though it was an open paint with no instruction she still stopped by to see how we were doing and offered lots of tips.
I would HIGHLY recommend going here again and again. They frequently have new paintings to try out too!
Parking tip: Ample parking across the street in the lot.
I forgot to mention — they supply everything! A good sized canvas, as much paint as you want, the brushes and aprons. Not to mention during the classes, delicious snacks. :)
