Unfortunately I had a similar experience to some of the previous reviewers as far as alterations. The suit I purchased looked nice and was a good price as part of a promotion. It needed alterations as any suit would, and I made the mistake of leaving it to them to handle instead of taking the suit to a professional tailor.
The staff seemed competent when they took my measurements and I couldn’t wait to get the suit back, which was scheduled a week before a wedding I intended to wear it to. When I called on the date listed on my ticket, they had no idea which suit I was referring to. Even with the ticket slip/​confirmation number, identifying information, etc, they had no record of my suit’s whereabouts. After speaking to a number of associates over two days who were simply looking for my suit based on my verbal description, they finally told me that it would be ready for pickup several days late — another bad sign. When it came back to the store from their third-​party alterations company, I went in to pick it up and even within the store the associates again couldn’t find my suit. They bickered between themselves like immature kids knowing how bad it all looked and one of them slipped that my suit had initially not been sent in, then rushed processing when they realized the mistake.
Finally, I tried on the suit and it looked terrible — baggy clown pants that they tried to explain was the current style, then blamed me for not including it in my list of alterations (I agreed to everything they had suggested) as if I wanted to wear baggy boot-​cut suit pants. They had also made mistakes like cuffing my pants despite being told that I didn’t want cuffs — overall was a joke. Lame attempt at an apology while trying to act like it wasn’t their fault. So I paid a lot of money to get a poorly altered suit after three long weeks and nearly losing it.
A professional tailor ultimately corrected their mistakes. My advice would be to avoid retail/​chain stores for a quality suit and good fit, or certainly for alterations. Avoid!

Two stars. I bought three suits. The suits themselves were very nice, and the alterations were done extremely well. I’m happy with the suits, no question about it.
If the experience had been better, they would have gotten four or five stars. The problem? They were absolutely dreadful about calling. When I bought the suits and left, I was told that the suits would probably be done before the promised date, and that I would be called when they came in. No call ever came.
The day before the due date, I called, and was told that they were done. I went in to pick them up, and noted to the salesman who had helped me that no one ever called (his card identified him as a department manager). He apologized, of course.
One suit required some minor rework by the tailor. This was on a Sunday; I was told that it would be done in a day or two, and that I would get a call when it was finished. After four days (and no call), I called and was told that it wasn’t yet ready but that my guy would call me back when it was ready.
I called on Monday, he wasn’t available, and so I asked that he call me back… and still no return call.
On Wednesday, I was told that it wasn’t ready, but that they would leave a message for my guy to call me. Still, no calls.
The following Sunday, I called again. This time it was there, and ready. It was done nicely, no question. But why is it so hard to call? If they want to say «Hey, it’s best if you call us to check on things,» I can live with that and I don’t mind. But don’t pretend that you will call if you can’t/won’t/couldn’t be bothered. It creates needless ill will.

I am a fan of Jos. A. Banks but this store, in particular, fights for the worst customer service I’ve experienced anywhere. Not only is the service slow, but the salesmen are consistently confused and mildly incompetent. Specifically, they are constantly unaware of pending shipments (although they are eager to give a false impression of «this week we’re getting new things in») and store inventory. Seriously, avoid this store at all costs; go to the Philadelphia store. My review is not based on a one-​time occasion, so any positive reviews on this site should be suspect.

In short: Great customer service by both the sales executive, George Harootunian, and the manager when making a difficult exchange.
In long: I had previously bought a suit and 3 jackets at a Jos A Bank in my hometown. I was in a hurry as I had an internship in Philadelphia starting soon so I just took the advice of the woman working at that store and had everything shipped to my address in PA. Well the jackets the woman sold fit awfully. I discovered this when I took it to my tailor in Norristown and he was appalled by how badly they fit and said to return them. So I went to the nearest Jos A Bank and was measured there and the representative (George Harootunian) was equally shocked by how poorly they fit. They were 3 sizes too large.
I still had the receipt for the suit and jackets but I had taken the tags off. And despite the fact that the clothes were bought at a factory store (the only Jos A Bank in my hometown) and despite the fact that the pants had been hemmed and despite the fact that the tags were missing all 4 were accepted when I asked to exchange them. George helped me find 3 suits and a jacket in my admittedly hard to fit size (38 long) and, to be honest, all four were significantly nicer than what I returned. The difference in price when I returned my tagless, factory store, ill-​fitting clothes for new, well fit clothes was only 49 dollars (I had spent around 900 originally so this was but a marginal increase and I found it to be extremely acceptable considering the difference in quality).
This was the best Jos A Bank I have ever been to and I will certainly be returning while I’m in PA. I brought the clothes to my tailor and he was much happier with the quality and the way they fit.

I recent bought four suits at the JoS A Bank in the King of Prussia Mall. They had a great sale going on; I basically paid $ 230 per suit, which isn’t bad at all. My only complaint was that the offer, buy one at set value and get 3 free, did not include the cost of some essential tailoring items. For example, I had to pay a separate fee to have the length of the pant legs set; something that was necessary and in no way optional. Maybe it was just me being naïve, but this kinda bothered me as I had not anticipated the extra costs and would have like that knowledge when deciding of I could afford the suits. Anyways, I voiced my concerns and the sales rep, Larry Belin, worked very hard to meet my needs. In the end we worked out a compromise. The suits are very nice and the staff knowledgable. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for a nice suit at a reasonable price. I would also recommend working with Larry when you are there.
