Bonzer Shack

Great dive bar in the outer banks. Total locals spot with a great beer and drink selection, and excellent specials. Their rockfish sliders were super fresh, well balanced with flavors, and very memorable. We went in the dead of winter but there were still a few tables filled. The bartender was attentive and made a mean rum punch. Great little spot.

Visiting this area we decided to go to this restaurant and the place was clean and friendly mom and pops shop. Food was relatively average, nothing special but seemed like a great place to get together with friends and have a drink.

Great atmosphere, good food, kid friendly and good service make for enjoyable dining. The nachos were different but good with the toppings in a dish with the chips around it, the grit cake was simply delicious wedge of deep fried cheese grits, the sausage pastry appetizer was very good, the fish tacos excellent and the special of sliders of fried green tomatoes and country ham topped with collards was great for something different. The choices for kids range from Cheerios to Mac and cheese to pbj to fruit cups all presented well. The service was excellent and the outdoor side with games is a great addition if you are waiting during busy times.

I am not normally drawn to these beach bum cafes with goofy names and the goofy surfer dude art. We were looking for a burger, somewhere we had not been and Bonzer was close by. It had the predictable surfer theme. Service was quite good and they had a few craft beers, so we had our beer for lunch with a burger.
We both ordered simple cheese burgers without a lot of embellishment. The patties were not large, probably four to five ounce and they were not flattened a lot. The char-​grill crust was good providing a lot of the flavor that goes with that. The meat was dense, solid, like the patty was overpacked before cooking or was a little too lean or probably both. It was not really dry, but was not juicy either. I really enjoyed the flavor but was wishing for the melt-​in-​your-​mouth texture of the burgers at Melvin’s out in E’Town.
They served the garlicky beach fries here. I guess it is a local thing.
It turned out I liked Bonzer Shack for our lunch and I expect we could return for another burger with a beer.

Eh… i came here from a friends recommendation and don’t plan to come back. Nice atmosphere, ok food. Lobster mac and cheese showed no signs of lobster, shrimp and veggies was over cooked. Waitress was not very good when places was pretty empty. Drinks were good. Mayde would be a better bar to hang out at than a place to get dinner

Great lunch. Bow sliders for me and tuna tacos for my guy. Both were terrific. Fast and friendly service. Will definitely go back!

Perfect lunch spot for families with kids! Our 3 year old was on the verge of meltdown and this restaurant kept her happy from arrival through the meal and even after the food! We enjoyed our food, can’t say it was exceptional, but the entertainment for kids and adults was the best!
The kids menu was also nice including a bag of Cheerios for little ones, mandarin oranges as a side option instead of fries, and a bunch of fun kid «mixed» drink options which we didn’t order but they sounded yummy and very fun.
I’d imagine dinner probably gets crowded bit at lunchtime we were one of just 2 families eating and playing outside which was great!

My wife and I was heading up The Beach Road looking for a place to stop for lunch and came across Bonzers and pulled into a small, but almost full parking lot and both said that this place must be good, when we exited our vehicle we were welcomed with the aroma of chargrilled hamburgers. We were excited to get in and order at this point and the biggest testament to the quality of this place is the amount of locals cars in the lot. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, a great selection of specials and the price could not be beat. Great selection of craft beers with seasonal rotating taps makes this one of my favorite places in OBX and have recommended it to multiple people already and excited to get back there!!!

Friendly service. Not surprisingly, it’s a surfing vibe. Pricing isn’t bad for lunch. The crab cake sandwich was good (MP today was $ 12.99 for lunch). The pulled chicken platter was very yummy.

Family friendly!!! Wait area was entertaining and made the 30 mins wait bearable, food was exceptional, nothing was not good.

Had a great time at this perfect OBX get away. Great food and beer selection. The people, the atmosphere, the fun outdoor activities — all perfectly balanced in this best OBX restaurant.

What a find! We were looking for a place to grab dinner with two of my three kids and didn’t want to wait for Red Drum down the road –so glad we did!
We came through the parking lot into the restaurant and decided to sit outside — little did we know that the outside has this great layout, including multiple cornhole sets, outdoor ping pong, hula hooping and a band. It’s the perfect place to end the day after going to the beach.
The service is warm and engaging — my daughter loved our server and she was very accommodating. We ordered the fish taco’s, the shrimp and the crab cakes — all were full of flavor, generous in size and very fresh! Make sure you order the Bushwacker — basically an adult milkshake that goes down far too easily!
I am a big fan of Bonzer’s and recommend it over similar places like Tortuga’s Lie, which is overrated and overpriced.

The bushwacker is the way to go. It has a real surf shack feel with good frozen drinks. There is also a cool outdoor area where you can play ping pong and corn hole. I will say it was a bit cooler when it was still Mexicali Blues but still a cool place to chill!

Awesome local joint, as always. Modern. Clean. Good food. Good staff. One of our favorites. Bring back the prime rib!!! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place, and that’s very rare for me. I’m a tough reviewer.

Did a great job with our group of 8 (4 kids) as everyone was tires and hungry! Great beach food and drinks, friendly staff!

Ordered dinner to go late last night (about 10 PM). We ordered the Bonzer Shrimp app, fried green tomato app, and a cheeseburger. Hubs is a burger man and said that the burger was the best he has eaten on this trip. The shrimp was grilled perfectly and the fried green tomatoes were so tasty, with or without the included sauce! The star of the show though, the Gouda grit cake that came with the Bonzer shrimp– it is the absolute best thing I have ever put in my mouth! Yum, yum, yum! Hubs doesn’t like grits and even liked the grit cake! I would go back just for that. The hostess and bartender were also very friendly when we picked up our meal. We will return! :-)

Fish tacos. Garlic fries. Drink specials. Live music daily. Good staff. Near surfer style atmosphere. Cornhole, ping pong outback on the patio where the love music is. I went here 2 days in a row. What can I say, a sweet spicy fish taco, the real thin and crispy fries, great drinks. Go here. Then you’ll be writing a review as well.

Great place. Cool vibe. Food is delish, great drink menu, i am a craft beer drinker but had the Bushwhacker, yummy. Nice place for kids too. Def. be back!

A good place to stop for lunch going to or from Ocracoke.
They have fresh fish selections and their staff is very friendly and professional.
You can sit out on the pato but there is no wait service.
