The Artist House On Fleming

Schön eingerichtetes kleines Hotel mit einer super Atmosphäre. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend und sehr hilfsbereit. Auf der Rückseite befindet sich ein kleiner Whirlpool. Vom Artist House kann man zu Fuß schnell alles sehenswerte erreichen. Wir werden das Artist House auf jeden fall nochmals besuchen.

Just recently booked our stay for the Artist House. Thought we were going to be 3 min. away and upon our arrival we were told there were 2. Ours unfortunately was a lot further away from Duvall than expected. It was nice. A little small and you can’t turn the A/​C down past a certain temp… so that wasn’t good. But it wasn’t bad.

Everything was perfect: with comfortable beds the room was clean, the towels fresh, the breakfast plentiful with delicious bread, fruit, pastries, eggs etc. and the spa (warm water) was so serene it made you forget everything else. Tastefully decorated the guest house is located within walking distance of Duval Street and the beautiful sunset at Mallory Square. Just leave your car in one of the spots on the block without lettering and you are set until leaving Key West. Will definitely recommend to anyone!

This B & B was such a great place to stay on our trip! A wonderful serene space — nice staff — small yet private jacuzzi — nice breakfast and happy hours for guests. The rooms are cute and air conditioned. There is a sister property Artist House that we didn’t visit but heard it is equally as nice. I recommend taking a look at this for your next visit!

The Artist House is the most friendliest place I’ve ever been to. The staff are great, courteous, and knowledgable of the area. FANTASTIC !

Great location. Just steps to everything yet located on a quiet street. Charming old Victorian. Clean and comfortable. I’ve read some of the negative reviews on here and I guess those people are looking for a high end hotel. This is an old B&B with character. Antique door knobs that stick, squeaky old wide plank flooring etc, charming. There is a small hot tub outside on the patio. They put out a little breakfast (fruit, muffins, coffee). Room was large with 12ft ceilings. We will stay here again.

Outstanding place. Rooms were large and comfortable, the staff enormously helpful and friendly while respecting guests’ space. Breakfast foods were great. Back patio shaded and pleasant, and a small pool for cooling off. Had a great stay here.

We stayed at The Artist House on Fleming this past weekend, in the Simonton room, and really enjoyed it.
The property has recently been renovated, and is in immaculate condition. Our room was spotless, the design was modern, and well planned. The bathroom was spacious, and clean. The Bed was comfortable. One of the few negative things I can say about the room at all, is that the sheets had a somewhere between faint and strong smell of bleach. It wasn’t overpowering, but it was enough that I noticed it. Now they don’t do the laundry there, they have a service, so you can’t really blame them. In addition a slight bleachy smell is FAR better than the alternative! Also the window AC unit really wound up my allergies, but again there’s not a lot they can do about that, except to install much more expensive units that have pollen filters.
The Simonton room is on the front of the house and on the ground floor. We were there on an out of season weekend, but it may be worth nothing that it could be loud on a busy weekend. For the most part the hotel is far enough off Duval, that you won’t get anyone being sick in the bushes out front, but it’s certainly worth noting if you’re a light sleeper. Also people did have a tendency to gather on the front porch for breakfast at 9ish, and while it wasn’t loud through the front windows, it was somewhat loud through the door, which is right next to the stairs and front door.
The only other thing I could say is that the breakfast offered was sort of disappointing in quality. It was edible, but not enjoyable. Think mini quiches from a box, and grocery store croissants. Again, the food was fine, but I actually skipped it the second day for restaurant breakfast, because I didn’t want to eat mediocre food when there are so many great restaurants in the area. If you’re willing to spend a few bucks over the free breakfast, Old Town Bakery (
) is right around the corner, and their croissants, baguettes, etc, are the real deal. Also Azure is great for breakfast or dinner.
The staff were very friendly, nice, and I had absolutely no complaints about the service.
So all in all a very good experience with just enough to knock a star off. We would definitely go back.

Stayed here for two nights and had a great experience! Great staff and amenities. We stayed in the Anne’s suite and it was beautiful. It is a short walk to Duval and all the action. Breakfast was really good. Will definitely stay here again. P. S. — Parking is $ 20 a day.

This wonderful old guest house has been renovated (2011) since I stayed there for three nights during a trip to Key West.
It was beautiful and classy when I stayed there before the renos, so I’m not even sure why they made the changes (but obviously, I’m not an architect of property manager, so I assume management had good reasons to do so.) In looking at the pictures in their website gallery, the rooms look a little more modern than they did a few years ago, but I don’t know that that is actually a good thing. (Sigh!)
Our room was spacious, the bed big and comfy.
My stay there was very enjoyable. The entire house was very quiet, we hardly ran into anyone, except during breakfast. The backyard — where we ate breakfast outside on a patio table — is very peaceful and private.
One of the highlights for me was enjoying a cigar and a drink outside on the side veranda one evening, after a day of deep-​sea fishing, visiting the Hemingway House and just generally exploring the island. I could almost imagine I was «Papa» sitting there in the evening, enjoying a cigar (although I couldn’t enjoy a Cuban as he would have smoked!)
I almost wish I’d spent more time just hanging out there than exploring and sightseeing on the island.
I’d recommend it to anyone staying in Key West.

Can’t say enough good about this place. Staff was friendly/​helpful/​courteous. Rooms were immaculate! Breakfast was plentiful and you could enjoy it on the back patio or the front porch. We could have stayed here forever.
Easy walk to Duval, the pier or any area of Key West.
Good restaurant selection close by as well.

What a great guest house! We went with family and booked 3 rooms. The staff was lovely, the accommodations comfortable and breakfast fuss free. In a great part of town right on the outskirts of all the action. Net you get a good night sleep but can still walk to the nightlife. We’ll definitely book again next time we’re in key west.

The B&B was the perfect place for my SO and I to stay during our recent trip to Key West. The recently renovated house has 9 or so rooms, but it still feels very private and quiet. That’s because only a few of the rooms have entries from inside the house, and the others have private entries outside. It’s located in a lovely quiet neighborhood with a combination of B&Bs and private homes.
We stayed in the Gato room — one of the inside entry rooms. It was bigger than we had expected from the pictures. It’s not huge, but was very comfortable and even included a mini fridge and coffee maker. The bathroom was big. It had a tub/​shower too. The room got a lot of great light, and I loved that it was on the second story, so we could open the windows and enjoy the view of the trees outside. Next time, I hope one of the outside rooms is available as those have private patios!
The rest of the house is gorgeous and also very comfortable. The kitchen recently underwent a major renovation, and guests have access to this space, the attached living room, and an outside area with tables, chairs, and a dipping pool. It was nice knowing that I could get filtered water or a cup of tea after hours. Breakfast is served in the kitchen and it includes a variety of pastries, yogurt, and mini quiches. There is a daily happy hour with wine, beer, and light snacks — also in the kitchen, but we enjoyed our wine sitting outside by the dipping pool. Out front there is a porch with a swing and lots of comfy seating. I sat out there for a few hours one night reading a book (that I borrowed from their bookshelf) as it rained. It was great!
Of course, with any B&B, it’s only as good as the people who run it. The Artist House (a sister property to the one on Eaton Street) is run by some great people. They are friendly, welcoming, fun to talk to, and eager to help. Ask them about the renovations and be sure to check out the before and after photos. If you like HGTV at all, you’ll love seeing the transformation. They were also very forthcoming with tips and suggestions for things to do in Key West.
One final note — you can rent bicycles directly from the house. I checked around to see how the prices compared. It was a couple of dollars more for the first day (worth it for the convenience of renting on site), and if you rent for at least two days, the price is exactly the same. They have several bikes locked up to the rack on the side of the house. They are adjustable and have baskets. This is the perfect way to get around Key West. It took us 10 or so minutes to bike to Fort Zachary Taylor Beach and 5 minutes to get everywhere else.
