The established name of this gay leather bar is really Saloon 1 or One Saloon, not Leather Masters though it does seem to be somewhat associated with Leather Masters which is somewhat of a kink leather shop located at nearby 418 Applerouth Lane. Though the location has changed over time, Saloon 1 or One Saloon has been around Key West since the early 80’s and has pretty much always been its only gay leather bar, and for what it is, not a bad one even though rather than a daily or nightly thing, rarely draws much of a crowd except on event or special occasion weekends. Billing itself as the only place«where real men come to play,» it is amazing to me is that it is still going and still surviving what is the obvious gentrification of Key West along with what appears to be a notable gay residential flight from the Key West area. Though the main entrance was is off Pretronia Street, however you can also enter through small hallway located inside the 801 Bourbon Bar. Yes, it’s dark, somewhat dingy and divey in appearance but that is pretty much in keeping with what a gay leather bar is not only supposed to be but also supposed to look like. The patrons here tend to be older but pretty much dressing the part with leather harness, biker type hats. It’s definitely not the twinkie or disco swim suited go go boy crowd that you might find at the gay Bourbon St. Bar located at nearby 724 Duval. While here I viewed a few goings on such as a single tail session. It wasn’t bad, but though obviously done by some rather seasoned veterans, sort of amateurish and unaccomplished as real into it players would be. I found the people there likeable enough, basically friendly and without attitude, but seeming all knowing they are a part of what is a dying or what is becoming a very limited breed in the Key West area.

This is Key West’s Leather & Levi bar — it can be accessed from Petronia Street, or there’s a hallway leading from the 801 into the back of this bar. It’s not your town’s Eagle, so think a lot smaller with a lot fewer clientele, but it’s still pretty great: no pretensions and no attitude. Plus, the attitude here is pretty much«anything goes» so you’re gonna see lots of cock and ass hangin’ out(wink). When you get tired of the campy scene and go-go dancers, come here to chill.

As a real leather/Levi bar, you’ll be disappointed. As a slightly darker alternative to the go-go boys at KWest or Bourbon St., it’s a good choice.
