Sea Dwellers Dive Center

What a great crew! From start to finish, they took care of our every need — from giving us anti-​nausea medicine to taking our tanks as soon as we got back on the boat! We definitely all felt very safe in the hands of these guys. One guy even jumped in the water when they saw a struggling diver! Friendly, informative, and very sea smart!

Sea Dwellers gave us the vacation that we craved! Two days of diving that reawakened our love of diving. We hired guides (Jima and Jerry) for each day and they helped us see Molasses reef like we couldn’t have on our own. Thanks guys!

I always love my experience with Sea Dwellers. They have the friendliest staff that goes out of their way to make sure you have a great day on the water. This past summer I went with a group of friends in town and we had an absolute blast. We saw sea turtles, nurse sharks, spotted rays, and of course the amazing Molasses Reef. Sea Dwellers is the way to go when diving in the Keys!

Probably the worst dive operation in Key Largo. Staff are all extremely rude, we did 10 dives with them only because one person in our party was doing her advanced open water. The dive boat is an older vessel and doesn’t seem that safe. The crew will RUSH you to get your dive done. They give you a 10 minute warning before we get the dive site then expect you to be in the water the second you arrive at the site. Oh and you have to be back on the boat in no more than an hour. I personally had about 4 bad orings and never had a tank with more than 2800psi. It’s a do everything yourself ride, don’t expect the crew to do anything. We ended up getting a refund for the last day of diving and went to rainbow reef who were absolutely amazing. I will give rainbow reef 5 stars. See Dwellers gets 1 only because I survived there trips.

Rude, unfriendly, obnoxious and rushed. Boat is old and cramped. Needed new o-​rings on the tank four times. Did 10 dives with them and 8 were to the same location. Dives cut short due to «people needed to check out of hotels» — a daily story. Don’t waste your time or money. Crew and office staff are just awful. Go with another operator.

These guys are ok but IMO a bit understaffed. We went on a boat with 21 other divers and they only sent one diver in the water, and he with a class. The current was strong the day we went and we drifted far from the boat (our fault) but when we surfaced we waived for about 20 mins before another boat found us and towed us back.
We had about 50 dives between us so not completely new but still early days diving. If you have experience then theae guys are fine but I think if they had more staff they could have served us better. The boat had about $ 2k in divers aboard. They should invest more in diver accompaniment.

I’ve been happy with our trip with sea dwellers. We did two morning trips and one afternoon trip. We are not seasoned divers, but we are experienced. I like that the sea dwellers crew let us know they were planning a trip that was outside our experience level and gave us an afternoon option that would be more comfortable. They also did all 3 trips (6 dives) with no repeats. I think they were planning to return to one of the locations, but noted our request to see different locations and did their best (ultimately succeeding) to make that happen.

What an awesome experience!!! Everyone is great! From the top down, the dive and all the support team were superb! The dolphin experience on the way back to the dock was an excellent find by the crew!

Enjoyed my first scuba experience here about a week ago. The staff are extremely down-​to-​earth and friendly, making you feel at home right away. My brother and I took the Discover Scuba course, which is $ 175 per person and gets you initial training at the Holiday Inn pool across the street and two guided dives in Molasses Reef.
Overall, we were very pleased with the experience — we apparently picked the best day weather wise so the waters were clear and the sun was beaming. The dives themselves were amazing and despite our fear of open water, the abundance of life and diving in a group allowed my brother and I to acclimate right away. The instructors are patient and constantly check-​in with each diver (safety first!) and will point out any interesting sea life for you. They also stress the importance of preservation, so hopefully future visitors will enjoy the same sights! We saw several manta rays, sea turtles, and a shark swimming away, as well as a pod of dolphins on the boat ride back. The boat ride was the unpleasant part for me since the current was very strong that day and it was crowded — well over twenty people on a small boat, sometimes rushing around to distribute gear and such.
For a whole day experience (8AM-4:30PM, with a 2 hr lunch break in the middle), it was a great deal and if I can stomach the waves, I’ll definitely be back.

Had a perfect trip with Sea Dwellers Dive Center. They have a supreme staff! I went there for Thanksgiving weekend for my Advanced Open Water. Jeremy was my instructor — he was a blast. I was freaking myself out with the top surface waves, Jeremy got me to calm down, and once we descended — underwater life was a blast.
We went to the Benwood twice, we saw a hammerhead go right above us, could be happier! The captain gave great predive briefings. The boat setup was so easy!
They help you into and out of gear so easly! All you have to do is dive.
Cant wait to go back this summer. There deals with the hotels near by is wonderful and way affordable.

I have over 60 dives with Sea Dwellers in the past 10 years. I completed quite a bit of training with these folks (adv. OW, Rescue, DM) in addition to a ton of ‘fun dives’ both solo and with my wife. I’ve been on the boat when it was packed with students and I’ve been on the boat when it’s been a mix of very experienced divers and just-​got-​my-​c-​card folks. I’ve never found the boat to feel crowded or rushed; the boat is laid out perfectly for diving and the crew does a great job of getting people set up and diving.
This is the most consistent dive operator I’ve ever worked with. They’re very focused on diver safety but they also acknowledge that some advanced/​experienced divers deserve to be given a little more freedom.
What I really like is that the boat captain is always focused on where the best diving can be found. There are many dive sites available in the area but I’ve been on the boat when the second dive is a 3 minute cruise from the first site… and the reason? The reason is that the current and visibility is superior on that site! Arbitrarily moving the boat far away for the sake of moving the boat is just ridiculous — it’s lazy thinking — but being focused on where the best diving can be found is the right way to do it (and its the way that Sea Dwellers operates).
I did read the one bad review from 2009 and honestly, I don’t know what happened there. I’ve seen inexperienced divers have issues on dive boats all over the world (it happens), and I’m sorry this group had such a difficult time — but what has been described here is completely at odds with my long experience with Sea Dwellers.

The folks at Sea Dwellers treat you like family. They truly care about your experience in Key Largo. My husband and I travel from So. California not only for the beautiful underwater sea life and scuba diving — we know we will be safe and know the friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff will make our diving trip worth the trek across the country. We have made several return trips in the last 10 years and have NEVER had a bad time! Even when the vis was poor, they made the best of the conditions and searched for the best spot to dive. Thanks Sea Dwellers you’re the BEST and we will be back again… and again…

We bought Groupons for a snorkeling trip. My friend became extremely ill with an autoimmune problem. I called to ask for an extension to use the Groupons. They flat out refused. No accommodation. Didn’t care at all. Other businesses go out of their way to satisfy customers. This one obviously doesn’t care about customer care or public relations. With this kind of attitude I’m not so upset after all — I’d hate to have experienced this kind of treatment while on a dive.

I first went Snorkeling in Key West with another company when visiting Miami and it was terrible. we couldnt see anything down in the water.
This time around, I found a Groupon for Sea Dwellers and decided to give it a try because Trip Advisor said it was good. So for $ 25 they took us on a half-​day snorkeling trip to a couple different sites out on the water and it was great! Much better than what I have seen in Key West. This was out in Key Largo and it was a much closer drive from Miami.
The sea life was plentiful, although I didnt get to see my turtles or dolphins. I still saw tons of beautiful fish, some of which swam pretty darn close to my face! =]
Great price even if i wasn;t going to use Groupon!

Did not get a chance to dive or snorkel, but they seem friendly and sell fun surf shorts which I bought for stand-​up paddle boarding.

Here’s what I liked:
— it was three blocks from the house I was staying in
— people were friendly
— good value — $ 107 for two dives
— good boat with knowledgeable captain and crew
— four + hour door to door trip — great value compared to the large catamaran trips
— covered divers and snorklers so I was able to take Thing 2 along so he could snorkle
It would have been fantastic if only for three things:
— it has been a while since I last dived in the Keys, and that was in Big Pine Key, and I remember the coral there being better — but perhaps that’s just the rose tinted spectacles through which I look at the past
— on the boat it was fix your own weights — it is a total pain to wire weights onto a belt on a moving boat — I got some help with it but it was a pain
— my buoyancy jacket was pretty ropey — the clasps were not working properly and it was helped on mainly by the velcro

This is an unsafe operation. We had a group of 8 people who went down to Key Largo and from the first look everything looked legit. However, once we got on the boat and actually left the dock, things started to go wrong. Here are a list of problems our group members experienced in the course of a 2 day — 2 tank dive.
First, their equipment is extremely old and in bad shape. We had two tank leaks due to bad O-​rings. As one of my group members was putting his fins on to take his giant stride, his tank blew, literally the regulator came off due to excessive pressure. My husband’s octopus was leaking the entire time. Another group member had to have her mask replaced as it kept getting water. Second, they don’t check your equipment for safety. I did not get enough weight on my weight belt. Consequently, I could not sink and on top of it, the boat had dropped us off into a rip current. I ended up getting swept away and it took the boat a while to figure out what was happening, at which point they threw me a life line. A group member jumped in, immediately her fin came off, and as that happened, her tank came loose. Third, there were 2 dive masters on an overbooked, overcrowded boat. We had 1 dive master for 10 people for the first tank dive. On the second tank dive, our friends got separated from us because people on the boat wouldn’t let them dive with our group for no reason. Fourth, the boat is unsafe. The rocking motion had dislodged one of the tanks from its half broken casing and it fell on my friend’s foot, injuring him. Last, on our second day, we went diving to Molasses reef where we had a nice enough time. Instead of driving to another location for a second tank dive, the captain decided to cheap out on us and drove 3 minutes to the other side of the reef. His rational was that he had people checking out of hotels and had to get back. Well, the second tank dive we were diving into a strong current and could only last 30 min tops. The current made it impossible to enjoy the dive. The captain knew about the current and did not attempt to drive to another location. All in all, if you can avoid this place, do. We are glad that no one from our party drowned.

I called Sea Dwellers the morning I wanted to dive, as my message left the night before with another company had gotten me no response. They gave me clear directions and booked our party of 3 on a two-​tank morning dive to two cool sites. The boat was big and non-​nausea inducing, and there were several staff for not too many divers. They had juice and water and anti-​fog on board, and they went through an orientation on the boat and gave clear instructions for the dive. They didn’t have to send a divemaster down with us but they did anyway for the wreck dive. We did Benwood Wreck and French Reef which were very nice. excellent and professional customer service, good equipment, would use them again!
