Horizon Divers

The crew was real nice. Most everyone was very helpful and friendly. Biff was especially helpful and very nice. The skippers were great. The guy at the counter was a bit condescending however. The dog at the shop was pretty cute but had sharp teeth.

I called Horizon & was told they were doing a dive on the Spiegel Grove that afternoon. I asked if they could buddy me up w/​someone, and was told that for an extra $ 25 I would be buddied up w/​one of their DM’s or instructors. I figured that would be good to dive with a local. After getting on the boat I was told by their Instructor I was diving with that he was also doing a speciality Deep Cert with a student on the same dive. Once we got out to the dive site & we started gearing up, the Instructor started asking the student his no-​decomp times at certain depths were, and the student was not familiar with his computer. The Instructor started belittling him in front of everyone in my opinion, and made it very uncomfortable. He was saying «if you come out here you should know this!» and going on about it. I actually felt sorry for this student. It was way uncalled for & made me & him uncomfortable. The Instructor sat there & watched the student fumble with his computer for a few minutes before even offering any help and was not nice about it. Kind of awkward. True, the student should know how to use his computer, but I thought it was handled way wrong in front of a boat full of divers. I’m sure the student was embarrassed. The student finally said «Yes Sir.» This guy had traveled from Canada to do this dive & didn’t deserve that treatment. Fast forward to getting down to the wreck site, and the instructor stopped on the well deck of the ship, directly faced the student, told him to kneel down & started doing skills. They must have went on for 7 or 8 minutes. At 117 feet that’s a good portion of the dive. He was 100% focused on skills with the student. I swam in circles around them in the well deck of the ship while student did skills stirring up silt. Then the Instructor gestured that the student had stirred up all of this silt. Poor guy. I was just shaking my head by this point, and was a little irked that a lot my bottom time was spent swimming in circles watching someone doing skills, but I still enjoyed the dive nonetheless. At our surface interval, the Instructor told the student that they were doing more skills on the 2^nd dive. I asked «where does that leave me?» and he said «right beside me watching.» Just what I wanted to do on my 1 shot at doing a really cool wreck dive on this trip. Watching skills. Granted, I called Horizon at the last minute & they did accommodate me because I was by myself. (and charged me) I did appreciate that they were able to accommodate me. But there must have been a better way to check out a wreck dive then sitting on the well deck almost the whole time watching skills. Other than that, the captain, store personal, and other Instructors on the boat were all very pleasant & personable & I enjoyed talking to them. Maybe this Instructor had a bad day, I don’t know. It was still a really cool wreck dive.

Had a blast yesterday… hit the water for two, A.M. dives onboard Cheeca View w/​Troy (Captain) & Dan (Divemaster) These guys exuded solid customer service from the first handshake to the last! Solid company, trustworthy and knowledgable staff from front desk to crew!

This is my 3^rd year diving with horizon and I must say they are excellent, I have been certified for 20 years but took quite a long gap in the middle. Of the many many dive operators I have used both within the United States and abroad horizon ranks number one for many reasons. The staff are outstanding from the boat captains, mates, shop staff and the owner himself every person you encounter is knowledgable, professional and polite. These guys know what they are doing at every level be it shallow reef or deep diving you will feel completely safe and taken care of. I cannot recommend this operation highly enough

This is the best commercial dive shop I have used in Key Largo thus far (Silent World being the absolute worst). Great staff, good price, and great dive sites. If they are doing the dives I want to do on the days that I want to go, they are now my default shop.

Great place to go diving. The captain and the dive master were great. Friendly and helpful. Took us to some great spots. We got to see some turtles and one of our divers saw a hammerhead shark. A lot of nice reefs and colorful fish. Oh and I also saw an eel hiding. There was a lot of surge but the captain handles his boat well. Ready for my second day of open water today.

Horizon divers excellent crew and mates had a blast, instructors were knowledgeable great dive… however Butch is a little to friendly, if you know what I mean!

Best dive shop around. Kara J. is fantastic as well as all the other people who work there. Make sure if you dive with Jeff that he doesn’t forget to take his iphone out of his pocket. Beautiful boats. Excellent staff. Nicest people in Key Largo.

My son and I went down to Key Largo to finish up out Open Water certification and these guys were awesome. Friendly doesn’t begin to describe it. From the moment that I spoke with Kara to when we hit the water with Hugh and the boat crews that took us out to the sites, everyone was awesome. I highly recommend these guys and will be returning to dive again… soon.

and again with the big mouth «our machine works fine» Well 2 transactions prior to my arrival and the bank confirming that my card was good! Maybe you should check your machine!

I wouldn’t recommend this shop to anyone.

My son and I recently did our Advanced Open Water Dive in Key Largo with Horizon Divers. Our experience with them was one of the best boat dives that we have done yet. Captain Troy and Dive Master Stephanie helped make a memory that will last a lifetime. From the moment you arrive, they make you feel comfortable and treat you like part of their diving family. No matter the size of the group going out, they take the time to get to know you as an individual and learn everyone’s name. It’s that personal touch that sets them apart from every other dive boat operation. They are prepared to help out with any situation from assisting with camera settings to giving you a flashlight if you forget yours for the night dive. I will definitely be using them in the future and highly recommend them.

Did our open water certification dive with my kids at Horizon. Referred by our dive shop in MD. Great group of people. Very friendly. Boat not crowded.

Bar none they have a good hand picking their staff ! Must be the people who own the place. Made my first cert here in 2009 and always come back. Next to my other favorite dive shop on Maui (

We were sent here from another shop that allegedly forgot to write down our reservation and wasn’t sending a boat out. It was our first time snorkeling in the Keys and for two of us ever. Our day was almost ruined but it turned out fantastic all because of the staff at Horizon.
Staff spent lots of time with us, we’re incredibly friendly and patient, and really prepared us for what would come.
We have nothing to compare to but the cooler and ice water and Capri suns were great after snorkeling. The personal attention of the staff and friendliness made our first trip fantastic. They took the time to explain everything on the boat, what fish we would likely see, and unlike another reviewer they did get to know our names.
We will definitely go back.

I’ve been out with Horizon for over 30 boat trips. Dove with other shops in Key Largo and all over the Caribbean. Dan (owner), Stephanie, Troy, Raisa, Mike, and everyone at Horizon has always provided amazing service for me and the rest of my group!
They are one of the few shops that will let divers do two dives on the deep wrecks. Their are two boats, the Chicaview & Pisces. One is a large flat-​top catamaran and the other a smaller v-​hull. They’ve allowed us to move from one to the other to best accommodate us and the other divers.
Last week I lead a group of 27 down from The Dive Shop in Richmond. Despite being a bit chilly, the crew were upbeat and let us dive our plans.

I was referred to HD by another highly rated dive shop that was too busy on the holiday weekend to accommodate me. This little change made my vacation. The HD staff was ultra professional on the phone and when I got to the shop my diving life changed in an instant. I was looking to get my 12 year old son in the water for the first time. He had been talking about going diving with Daddy for the past 2 months so I had a lot riding on this first experience with him. Enter Mike Ryan, Scuba Master, Bubble Guru and the Right Hand of King Neptune himself. He instantly connected with my son and walked him through every step of the way. After the pool instruction, we boarded the boat that was located right behind the shop. The boat was comfortable, not crowded, fully geared, no hassle and stocked with candy and Capri Sun for post dive refreshment. As we got into the water, I can tell my son was nervous, but Mike was with him all the way. They took about 15 minutes to get down that 20 foot descent line. Mike has the patience of Job and was committed to giving my son the best experience ever. After that first dive, my son was hooked and did 3 more dives with me, Mike by his side the whole time. He now wants to get certified and be my permanent dive buddy. We will be going back to HD next year for his check dives and Mike will definitely be the one doing them for him.

I was referred to Horizon Divers to complete my checkout dives for my PADI open water certification, and I had a terrific time!
I can’t talk from experience about a lot of the logistics since I am a new diver and inexperienced, but the staff and overall two days of diving were great. Mike Ryan was the best– if you are a new diver or if you haven’t been diving in a bit, Mike is the guy to see. He was friendly, patient, and always made me feel completely comfortable. He took the time to make sure that I got everything right, helped refresh my skills since it had been some time since I had started my cert, and he was an excellent guide underwater. All staff members were very knowledgeable and flexible. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to dive in Key Largo. Thank you for all of the help — I am completely hooked and can’t wait to dive again!

Finally a boat crew that does not act like they are the coolest cools of the cool. They did not treat us like dreaded tourists, but instead were very welcoming.
This was our first dive outside of our PADI class and we went to 2 shallow sites off Molasses Reef. The crew even offered to send a guide with us for our dive (for and extra fee). We had an experienced friend with us, so we declined, but just FYI.

The boat to Spiegel Grove left a little later than what Im used to for dive boats (10 AM departure rather than the early ass 9AM)
There were very few people on the boat and the service was regular to good. The crew was helpful and nice. Did they go above and beyond? No.
My dives were on weekdays so perhaps thats why the boat was empty– 15 divers MAX MAX
The boat was well equipped for divers and I have no beef with that at all. Plenty of tanks, O rings a plenty, an AED, Oxygen and waters, capri suns and fruits for all.
Five stars? No. Theyre missing that SOMETHING that puts them above and beyond.
No one needed a rescue so I cant say how ready the staff is to jump in or how fast they are to get the rope out.
I do plan to dive with them again and I trust them enough.
