History

Established in 1980.

Our orchards are located in the heart of Michigan’s famed cherry-​growing region, atop glacier-​formed ridges near Torch Lake and Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay. On these rolling hills, we grow over 180 acres of Montmorency tart cherries, in addition to Balaton cherries, black sweet cherries, raspberries, apples, peaches, pears, apricots, plums, and nectarines. Growing and marketing fruit since 1980 has been a wonderful life for founding brothers John and Jim, along with wives Betsy and Rose. Now with the second generation bringing new energy and talents to our operation, the future of King Orchards is ever so bright.

Our fruit stands are located just a stone’s throw from our orchards. We welcome you, our valued customer, to visit our farm and experience what our family is so proud of.

John and Jim King K.

Business Owner

John and Jim King started King Orchards in 1980 after spending many summers on Old Mission Peninsula working on cherry orchards. They started by planting the original block of Montmorency tart cherries (which is still growing strong) and found their love growing perfect fruit trees.
