Keswick Vineyards is located in the heart of Virginia wine country in Charlottesville, VA and is one of the premier Virginia wineries that makes up the acclaimed Monticello Wine Trail. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the covered porch or bring a picnic to enjoy at one of our outdoor tables in the courtyard or picnic area while sampling some of our award winning wines. We have blankets available for you to spread out on and bocce ball and croquet sets for you to play on the lawn while enjoying our wonderful Virginia wines. During the winter months our porch is enclosed and has infrared heaters to help keep you warm, so any time of the year is a great time to visit Keswick Vineyards! We host a variety of special events throughout the year including concerts by local musicians, local food vendors, educational events, charity events, and more. We are not only family friendly but pet friendly as well, especially with the recent addition of our fenced in dog park for your dogs to run around and play in while you are relaxing and enjoying some wine. History

Established in 2002.

Keswick Vineyards is located at the historic 400-acre Edgewood Estate in Keswick, Virginia. The land was part of the original 1727 Nicholas Meriwether Crown Grant that comprised nearly 18,000 acres on the east side of the Southwest Mountains.

George Barclay Rives, a direct descendent of the original grantee, built the current residence in 1911.

The property was the site of two important historical events, one during the Revolutionary War and the other during the Civil War.

In more recent years, Edgewood Estate has been the home of singer-songwriter Art Garfunkel and movie director Hugh Wilson. Today Edgewood Estate finds itself home to one of Virginia’s most promising agricultural industries — viticulture.

When Al and Cindy Schornberg moved to Virginia, they left behind the hi-tech corporate world Al created in Michigan and traded it for the lifestyle he had dreamed of since childhood — as a vineyard owner. They were looking for an area that offered the excitement of a burgeoning wine industry as well as a desirable place to raise their children, and found that potential in Virginia. Al recalls his grandfather’s stories of working at his family’s winery, Massena Cellars in France, and like his predecessor, his goal was straightforward: «I just wanted to be able to enjoy a really good wine that I made. There’s something very natural and satisfying about that.»

With the Southwest Mountains as a backdrop, the vineyards at Edgewood Estate create a truly picturesque landscape. Upon planting the vineyards in 2000, the Schornbergs dedicated themselves to their goal of producing the best wines in Virginia, and ultimately to be considered one of the finest wineries in the country.

Beautiful vineyard, but just OK wine. At least its very pet friendly.
I’ve been to Keswick 3 times over the past 2 years. Of those visits, the first blew me away, but the other two didn’t impress me at all. Keswick is small but not tiny; 5500 – 6000 cases/year, although they do get some grapes from out of state.
When I walked in, it was PACKED. I don’t know if they were just short-staffed or a bunch of people came in unexpectedly, but the result was it was hard to get attention. And when I did get attention, it didn’t last. My servers tried, but they were torn between groups.
Looking at the tasting menu, I was surprised EVERYTHING was vintage 2014. For whites that’s expected, but most places have at least a few 2013 reds. Typically, serving younger reds shows a place is selling inventory so fast they have to raid the younger bottles to keep wines in stock. Good for business, but bad for wine lovers.
Whites/Rose: The Rose was made with Norton, which gave it a nice body. The 2014 Chardonnay Reserve was almost exactly like a Viogier; little sweet, floral nose, apricot palate. The 2014 Amelie had a sweet nose and a lemongrass palate. Can’t remember what the LDV Pinot Gris was. But bottom line, with the possible exception of the Rose there were none I disliked but neither was I tempted to buy them.
Reds: The 2014 Merlot was advertised as full bodied but you could have fooled me; it was a light to medium bodied red if I ever tasted one. Not bad, but light reds aren’t my style. The 2013 Touriga had a smoky nose and plumb palate, and was my favorite. The 2013 Trevallian Red was just OK.
Desert wines: One unexpected highlight was a sample of a chocolate sauce flavored with Norton. They poured a taste over a vanilla cookie and it was delicious! Ice cream please?!?
I was heartbroken that Keswick is still out of the «Royale» port-style. I’ve only had it once and have been hunting it ever since. Unfortunately this seems to be something of a ‘special edition’ wine so don’t expect to find it more than once every couple years (but buy it when you do).

Given that Keswick allows dogs in the tasting room and has a small dog park area, I really wanted to love it. But I found it somewhat average. The tasting room is tiny so we waited quite a while to do a tasting. The dog enjoyed running around in the dog park area but we didn’t stick around for a long time. Seems like this place is more dedicated to weddings than regular visits.

It had been over a couple of years since our last visit so we decided to stop in as a group. In all there were 8 of us and we’re really into wine, so we were quite disappointed with this particular visit as the wines were not very good. We really tried to find something we liked so we could buy some bottles and sit and enjoy their patio/outdoor spaces, but it wasn’t possible on this trip.
The tasting room is very nice, clean and the staff is friendly too.
The entire property is gorgeous! We would like to visit again, but it might be another couple of years before we do.

We had a fabulous afternoon at Keswick Vineyards! We visited on a Saturday for an Eats & Beats event, brought our two dogs, and had a wonderful tasting and lunch on the patio from Big Easy Metro Market food truck. We were impressed with the $ 10 tasting as it included 10 different wines and an in-depth description of each. The vineyard patio is a lovely place to spend the afternoon, with lots of seating on the patio and in the shady adjoining yard as well. We were especially pleased to find a dog-friendly place with such great atmosphere and amenities. Definitely a must-visit spot near Charlottesville, especially if you want to bring your dog with you!

Had a great time at Keswick. Jess, our guide, was extremely helpful and friendly. The wines were excellent — loved the Pinot Gris. After our tasting, we enjoyed a glass outside along with a cheese ball and crackers. Keswick has a beautiful outside seating area, though it did fill up quickly mid-afternoon. I will definitely be back!

As per usual with Virginia wines, great whites (I really enjoyed all of them, especially the 2013 Viognier Reserve) and very mediocre reds. $ 10 tasting for 9 different wines, which isn’t bad at all. You can keep the glass for another $ 3. A glass of wine is $ 6. The bottles ranged from $ 17 to $ 28.
Great atmosphere, gorgeous vineyard (with a beautiful swan pond, what?), super pet-friendly, and adoption events from noon to 3pm every other Sunday! Check out their website to see whether they’re hosting any adorable fluffy animals. Went there on a day when we could play with three very sociable five-month-old kittens! Being able to play with baby animals will make your wine tasting experience just that much better, I promise.

Wow! Great wines, great service, and a great atmosphere. What more can you ask for in a winery? We stopped by with our dog and we were made to feel right at home. The gentleman guiding our tasting was the owners son. He was knowledge about the wine, how the wine is made, and humored our questions.
If you are in the area check this place out. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Made a stop at Keswick on the way out of town from an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend enjoying Charlottesville wine country. At first glance, I really loved the landscaping and layout of the vineyard. It’s very quaint with landscaping kind of architecturally separated depending on what kind of view/seating you wanted. There was a nice covered porch with lots of seating. Beyond that were some tables in the sun and then a covered tent around to the side. Beyond that was a wooded area with more seating. There was also a lovely lake on property that had swans!
This winery is pet friendly. As others have mentioned, there are water bowls dotted around the seating areas, and you can bring your pups inside.
Once inside, the tasting room kind of reminds me of a bar — with the tasting counter being an L-shaped bar with all the wine glasses hanging from the top and bottles of wine decorating a shelf above the bar.
We walked in and up to the tasting counter. And proceeded to wait. There were a few people in there but it was by no means busy. I understand if you can’t get to us right away but at least acknowledge you’ll be coming shortly. The waiting wasn’t interminable, but it definitely took them longer than they should have to notice us.
Once we got set up for our tasting, we were walked through a handful of reds and whites, I think about 7 – 8 total. I think the tasting was about $ 5 or $ 6 and extra for the glass.
Again, like many of the Charlottesville wineries I’ve toured before, the whites really stood out as the better of the selection. In particular the Chardonnay. We actually tasted two, and it was the second one that we really enjoyed and later bout a glass of (I think it was the 2013 Monticello Chardonnay). As far as the reds, I actually thought the Consensus was OK, and I love how the wine gets made. Essentially wine club members are invited to a wine making party, and a winner is chosen through a blind taste test. That becomes that year’s Consensus.
We had actually thought about joining the wine club because the value add seemed to be pretty decent. No yearly member fee except you had to buy three bottles a quarter, discounts on those purchases, and Keswick seems to host a lot of fun members-only events. But, in the end, even though we really liked that Chardonnay, it was the only one we really liked. And we likely wouldn’t have been able to attend many events since we are from out of town. So we passed.
One thing that was interesting to note about a couple of their wines is that the grapes in them weren’t completely Keswicks. Apparently they had a bad year with some vines and had to buy grapes from some other vineyards, thereby not making a product that was true to them. And, again although I can’t remember which wines they were, I can tell you I remember them not being very good. So, my feeling is, if you can’t make your product that is up to your quality and standards with your ingredients (and our server even said the wine was different from what they usually produce), then why even do it at all?

Very dissapointed with this winery. We specifically came here because of the high reviews, and yet, we were not impressed at all. The setting leaves a bit to be desired as well as the ordering/tasting process. That tasting room inside gets packed and it’s a little unclear what you do first. The line is to pay afterwards so we went up to the bar and waited for about 10 minutes to finally start our tasting with an old, stodgy couple who basically asked questions the entire tasting. Also, I understand tasting pours are generally small… the pours here were puny. The wine was uninspiring and there wasn’t a single one that we really enjoyed. Really unfortunate to see such opposite reviews because we couldn’t have been more turned off. Skip Keswick on your wine tour.

This ranks among the bottom three experiences my wife and I have ever had at a winery. We taste a lot and are not snobs nor overly focused on service or whether a place is dog friendly. These were just terrible wines. All the Reds too young — all 2013s… all of them. One smelled, by the admission of the pourer, like rotten eggs and sulphur. She said «just taste past the smell.» Can you imagine anything less you could do that with than wine? Never again.

Excellent Staff, Bad Wine
Visited on 10÷19÷14 with two other folks. The other two in my party had been a few years back and remarked the wine was decent. Location is good and staff was friendly. We did the standard tasting. Tasting notes:
Consensus — this is really bad wine with medium body, plenty of bite and not really drinkable
Chambourcin — the best red they have with medium body, but nothing memorable about it
Norton — very smooth but very light body for a red; it was almost like drinking water
Chardonnay — the best wine, but lacking any pear or citrus notes
None of us purchased a bottle of wine. That says it all! All of the wine appeared to be very immature, almost like the winery just opened yesterday. Nice setting, just bad wine.

Unfortunately for Keswick we are not fans of the Norton grape which appears to be the cornerstone of this winery’s market. We really wanted to like the wines as the service was good and the tasting room is very dog friendly, but we could not find any wines we wanted to see again. We did enjoy the casual feel of the winery and the grounds were lovely.

We really enjoyed the wine, but the best part of the visit was the tasting room associates. We have been to several wineries in the area, and this one is definitely one of the best. We had Molly, who was absolutely fantastic. She went above and beyond by being extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We went on a busy Saturday, and even though she was juggling several customers she continued to provide top notch services to all of us. Thanks to Keswick and Molly for a great experience!

One of the best wineries in the area in terms of the quality of the wine, the wine-tasting experience, and the general atmosphere.
One of the first things you notice is the dog friendly amenities — water bowls and dog treats inside and the like. This seems to be a huge hit with people. The grounds are beautiful — nestled in a valley forest, you look out onto the rows of grapes surrounding the winery from your comfortable outside seating area. The interior is also very nice — small and cozy, but still with plenty of room for the wine tastings.
The wine tasting itself was also satisfying ($ 6 a tasting and you get a really nice glass). Our tasting guide was bubbly and a bit self-deprecating, and knew a lot about the wines we were tasting. Keswick’s strengths are in its red wines, and there are more than a couple I wouldn’t mind tasting again. My favorite was actually the Consensus wine, which was made by a team of amateur wine enthusiasts during a competition Keswick holds every year. A highlight of the tasting wasn’t a wine at all but a wine chocolate sauce we were able to try on a manila wafer. Absolutely delicious — it went perfectly with the red wine we were drinking.
In sum, you’re almost guaranteed a good time at Keswick, especially if you are searching for dog-friendly wineries in the area.

We had such a great time at Keswick.
1) They were dog-friendly, and they provided dog biscuits.
2) Bill, our tasting guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and made suggestions for other wineries we might want to visit. I especially enjoyed him telling us about how the winemaker fell in love with the owner’s daughter and ended up staying.
3) The grounds had lots of shade, and you could enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a glass, bottle, and/or picnic.
4) While I’m probably not going to join, their wine club sounded really great and interactive. Every year, they invite their members to participate in a wine-blending competition, where the winning teams get their photos on the bottle. And it looked like they hosted a lot of events for their members.
5) The wines themselves, while pricey, were interesting and tasty.
6) Many of their events supported a local animal shelter!

Popped in for a quick tasting. We enjoyed the wine fine. What ruined the experience for me was being asked to buy bottles not two, three, four but FIVE times. It had the pressure of a used car lot. They charge for the tasting and should respect that not everyone will want purchase bottles.

I give Keswick four stars for their property but 3 for their wines. I appreciate that the owner doesn’t like sweet wines so he doesn’t make any, it’s his business and he can do exactly as he wants. But I would have liked to see more variety. The fact that your Cab Sauv grapes were ruined a few years ago is understandable but what I cannot understand is why the owner went to Cali and brought back that terrible replacement for the season. Your wines are much better than that one… I think it’s called Pleasure, however it was not at all pleasurable.
This is also a perfect place to have a picnic and bring your well behaved pooch and to sit outside. The tasting room is too small anyways. I think Keswick’s main focus is the 5 weddings a week they hold here from April to September. It shows in their wine.

Keswick definitely has it together. They are experienced and offer a variety of mature complex choices. Their pourers are all knowledgable and inviting. They did not hesitate to give recommendations of other choices in the area and seemed genuinely invested in us having an enjoyable experience during our visit.
They have several award winning wines to offer but are not shy about sharing info about competing vineyards. Overall I felt a passion for wine in general rather than an «only drink our wine» attitude which was very refreshing. We ended up buying several bottles, both white and red, all have been a pleasure to drink.
They had samples of locally made tapenade and cheese, all delicious.
We will certainly return upon our next visit to the area.
P. S. I loved the statuesque kitty cat who greeted us, or rather held his ground and didn’t move a bit as we walked by.
