Specialties

Private guided trail rides in Albemarle and surrounding counties. We can go to one of our usual spots or if you have a place in mind (and permission), we can trailer the horses to you.

Trail rides are great for couples, families or friends. We can currently take up to 6 riders.

History

Established in 2009.

It started out as just taking friends on trail rides. Then they told their friends about it, and their friends told their friends… In 2009 I turned it into a business! I have a great group of gentle, beginner-​friendly, horses and we’re out as often as we can be!

A native of Albemarle County, I grew up riding horses. I’ve always preferred riding Western. I’ve worked on ranches from North Carolina to California and many places in between. I love «getting lost» in the woods with my horses and I’m happy to be able to share that experience with others.

Three of us took the 2 hour back-​country route in the Patricia Ann Byrom reserve. Ashton, the owner and our guide, made sure to take good care of us. The horses were really well trained, which is a good thing for three beginners! Especially when we came across a yellow jacket nest– the poor horses got stung and were not happy, but restrained themselves admirably. We enjoyed the ride nonetheless!

My mom, sister, cousin, and I took a ride with Ashton and Mary at Veritas and we had a great time!
The views here were amazing and Ashton was very familiar with the surrounding area, pointing out landmarks surrounding us. Being from various states, knowing what surrounded us was nice!
Mary took many pictures, which she sent us, and Ashton is very patient and a great help to the inexperienced rider. They both were very easy going and made the ride fun. I would definitely ride with Ashton and Mary again.

A perfect way to explore the beautiful nature on horseback!
I spent the weekend in Charlottesville with my girlfriend and we went on a 2 hr ride with Ashton and his wife up one of the ridges overlooking the beautiful valley. If you are looking for gorgeous nature, it doesn’t get better than this. I had never ridden a horse before and they made it so easy that it didn’t matter.
I highly recommend it and I can’t wait to go back!

A worthy excursion, even from as far as DC!
We booked a trail ride with Indian Summer Guide Service which took place at the King Family Vineyard. The trail ride was intimate, exciting, and educational. Ashton provided a kick-​ass experience, even though we are both novices. We were accompanied by Ashton’s very energetic border collie which added an additional sense of adventure to the hour long trail ride. I highly recommend an excursion with Indian Summer and can’t wait to go back again!

Great ride. Tour really is interesting and horses are well behaved. The dog that came along was very friendly and intelligent. Husband was anxious at first but learned to enjoy the ride.

Amazing day. Ashton was a gracious and extremely helpful host. When one trail was too blocked with fallen trees and snow, he had no problem relocating us to another trail where we had a great time. Horses were beautifully behaved for any novice rider. I’d recommend Indian Summer to anyone!

If you are looking for a FUN venue here in the C’ville area, this is it! Ashton was the perfect guide. Preddy Creek Trail was an easy ride and the horses were very well behaved. Ashton had the best horse for each one of us and they are beautiful quarterbacks! Can’t wait to try another trail, thank you Ashton, you ROCK!
