Sierra Gateway Cottages is your «home away from home» traveling experience located within ¼ of a mile from the Kern River. With five vacation rentals to chose from there is a cottage or cabin to fit the needs of your family or friends stay.

All have complete kitchens and most have private patios with your own propane grill. Year around fun and activities await you. River rafting, tubing or just relaxing by the waters edge, boating, kayaking, SUP’s, snowboarding, hiking and antiquing, shows there is something for everyone.

Located on what was once Estate property the cottages are located up on a hill and offer wonderful views. They are all within walking distance to popular restaurants and stores such as Ewings on the Kern, The Kern River Brewing Company and the Starlite Lounge.

Kernville’s history of gold mining, cowboys and Indian Encampments makes it a great place for a weekend get-​away or longer.

History

Established in 1999.

Sierra Gateway Cottages began renting out the cottages in 2000. We were once Estate property and conformed to a business at that time. The cottage are historic buildings that were once located in old Kernville aka Whiskey Flats. In 1952 when the construction of the damn was completed the building were moved from their original location to higher ground as the lake began to fill. Rich with history and loaded with charm these cottage are a great choice for travelers that prefer to have kitchen facilities

My job as hospitality and operations manager is a great fit for me as I have always enjoyed socialization with people from all walks of life. From booking to checkout, customer service is of utmost importance to success in the vacation rental industry.

Each family or group has specific needs that I take to heart. Directing guests to popular tourists spots, popular restaurants or local sports attractions is important and it brings me joy to help others find their niche here in the Kern River Valley.

Most of my guests are return guests and in the nearly 15 years of my managing Sierra Gateway Cottages I have become friends with people far and near and look forward to their return trips to Kernville.

So whatever your vacation plans are you can count on me to try my best to meet your needs in order to provide you with the best cottage lodging experience ever and the information in which to plan your itinerary.
