History
Established in 2003.
«Necessity» was the spark — after being unable to find anyone who could do a technically-accurate repair on the woofers in his Nestorovic/Speakerlab speakers, Owner and Chief Loudspeaker Biologist Paul Johnston spent over a year trying different combinations of parts to get an accurate solution. After hitting the «right» combination, he shared the results with other owners of similar speakers who had the same disappointing experience and did several repairs for them.
Word spread, and soon The LoudSpeaker Store was operating as a part-time business in a rented garage. Clients have included Magnolia Hi Fi, American Music, Speakerlab, Carlson Audio and thousands of Music Enthusiasts and Audiophiles in the Puget Sound Area and around the globe. Today, The LoudSpeaker Store is thriving and growing, thanks to its focus on accuracy, fast turn-around, fair pricing and a fanatical dedication to customer service.
Our work speaks for itself — we stake our reputation on every repair.
Meet the Business Owner
Paul J.
Business Owner
Paul’s grandfather, Ray Johnston, is something of a legend in the local audio community, having first entered the speaker business in around 1946, most notably as representative for Klipsch and Associates.
As a young teen, Paul would often accompany Ray on his store calls in some of the old legendary Seattle audio stores: Electricraft, Magnolia Hi-Fi, Speakerlab and Jafco among many others. He was a musician in a very musical family, and the family’s affiliation with Klipsch meant there was no lack of hi-quality audio in the house, nor any lack of speakers to tinker with and tear apart. He built his first speaker at the age of 12.
His first experience in «the biz» was at age 13, and he started his career in earnest at 19 at the legendary speaker kit store, Speakerlab, in 1983. He has also worked for Microsoft, Magnolia Hi-Fi, The Kenwood Corp, and in 2000, he went to work for Klipsch, the only 3rd generation sales rep in company history.
