History
Established in 1976.
This year will mark 40 years of business for House of Books, Kent’s own Literary Landmark. House of Books began as a Independent bookstore operating out of an old house on Rte 7 in North Kent before moving to its current location on Main Street in Kent in a building dating back to the early 1800’s with the original hard wood floors, and large paned windows. House of Books is now in it’s third chapter of ownership by Robin Dill-Herde who took over the business in May, 2013.
Meet the Business Owner
Robin H.
Business Owner
I worked at House of books for 9 years before buying the business in 2013, a lifelong dream of mine to own a bookstore at exactly the time people were predicting the death of the book, when e-readers were becoming the hot item. I went against what many people, family and friends would have no bones about saying a «wise choice» to fulfill my lifelong dream and have not regretted it for one moment. I have been a lifelong reader with a passion for books, real books and I’m convinced I’m not alone. I’ve read that being a bookseller or bookstore owner is a radical notion in this day and age and I guess that is probably true, however, I’ve always been a rebel as well as a reader. Long live the book!
