Description

Specialties

Hand-knotted, Oriental Rugs of every type from everywhere. That is all we do. We service, sell, appraise, and restore rugs. We have great prices, a huge inventory, and a knowledgeable staff with excellent design sense. Also, the owner is a rug guru and textile enthusiast who can tell you anything you’d want to know. We offer free verbal appraisals in the event you’d want to bring in your own pieces.

What we are really known for in the rug and designer community is our ability to find just about anything and help just about anyone. We help you through the sales process by giving you a rug crash course, asking you about your rug needs and lifestyle, working with whatever fabric and paint swatches that you have, and also working within your budget. If you find several rugs you like, we can bring them to your home so that you can really see if they are the right rugs for you. We make rug buying much easier than living with a bare floor! Designers are welcome too.

History

Established in 1977.

The story of Jahann and Sons is one of tradition, quality and art. A family owned and operated business, Jahann and Sons began in the small town of Kashan, Iran five generations ago. In its first fifty years, its primary focus was the weaving and manufacturing of handmade Persian rugs. When the business was handed down to Jahann, granddaughter of the founder, its retail side began to flourish. In the late 60s, Jahann’s sons immigrated to the United States, bringing with them their appreciation for the art of rug weaving — and their mother’s business. In 1977, the family business under its new name, Jahann and Sons, opened its doors in the Washington Metropolitan area.

Jahann and Sons takes pride in its history and its service to its customers. For five generations it has specialized in bringing beautiful rugs and beautiful homes together.

Meet the Business Owner

Mahmoud M.

Business Owner

Mahmoud (BCC ’71) has spent his entire life in the rug business. He was born in Tehran, Iran to a long line of rug weavers and dealers. He spent his childhood working for the family delivering wool to weavers and his teens, after moving to this country, selling rugs freelance. In the late 1970s, he was finally able to open up his own shop… with just one rug in inventory. Countless years later, the shop and inventory have grown dramatically. The family business has grown too, as Mahmoud’s daughter, Katie (WHS ’00), also joined Jahann and Sons in 2004.

Mahmoud is a certified rug appraiser and member of the New England Appraisers Association.
