Mellow Mushroom

My wife and I stopped by for pizza yesterday, bringing our golden retriever with us as we had many times before. Our golden, a registered therapy dog, has joined us often as we eat in the covered area outside the main serving area and away from the main food serving area. Despite always being welcomed in the enclosed, outside area, my wife and I always ask first before we bring the dog in. Yesterday was no different. We were told that the dog could again join us with no problems, and the greeter seated us in a usual area. As we were settling in, the waitress arrived and announced that we could not be seated in the covered area with the dog. I took one look at her and realized that logic or explanation would be useless, so we left and drove to the Acworth Mellow Mushroom, where we were greeted and seated in THEIR enclosed outside area with no issues. We even related our issues with the Kennesaw store, and they were amazed. It’s all good – the Acworth Mellow Mushroom is a cleaner, nicer facility with better beer selection. We’ll be driving to Acworth from now on when we want pizza.

I really enjoy eating here. The food is great and the atmosphere is fun. They stay busy but it does not effect the time we waited. My go to place for pizza and fun.

Love this place when it’s warm enough to eat outside. We eat the exact same thing every time we eat here. The best pizza HOUSE SPECIAL, and the best sandwich, MUSHROOM CLUB. Our absolute favorites. The Greek salad is great, just add chicken.

Never, ever, ever, ever have a bad meal or experience here. Staff fantastic, food is delish. Ate there 1/8/16…had Megan as a server. She’s professional, happy, and a delight.
Thank you mgmt for all you do — it is evident in your employees they are happy working there.

As someone who has been to multiple Mellows from Auburn to Charleston to DC and everywhere in between over the past 12 years, I can honestly say that this particular location is the best one, primarily because of the excellent service. We’ve been going to the Kennesaw Mellow for several years, and have never had a bad experience. Their pizza is always fresh and delicious. It’s a unique style of dough if you’ve never had it before — very tender and chewy. Also, the Esperanza dressing is addictive, and one of my favorite guilty pleasures.

I wish I would have took a look at this pizza before I left the store, this pizza looked so disgusting and tasted even worse than it look? I don’t know why I decided to even try it but I was hungry but whatever I won’t be coming here anymore. I would have wanted my money back or asked for a different slice if I looked before I left.

First: I LOVE Mellow Mushroom. This review is NOT about Mellow Mushroom as a whole, but this location in Kennesaw.
Worst customer service ever. Been there twice now and had bad service both times.
First time we came in with a party of 10. Called ahead. Several hours ahead. When we got there, they knew nothing about it. Then insisted in sitting us outside even tho it was cold out because «There are heaters out there.» I use heater in a loose sen of the word. When I said we didn’t want to sit outside, they got snotty and insisted they only seat large parties out there. But never once mentioned it while I was on the phone with them earlier. Heater or not, it was cold out there and we were all wearing jackets before it was over with. Service was slow, refills were rare and in the end we’d have been better off going elsewhere.
Went back today since I was going to be in the area and found the service to be seriously lacking again. Came in and had the hostess insist we sit outside for no apparent reason. When we said we didn’t want to go sit outside, where again everyone was wearing sweaters, coats or sweatshirts, she acted as if we’d kicked her puppy. Once she spent time arguing with us about sitting outside and realized we weren’t going to do it, she finally cleaned a table off, then came back to tell me we could go sit down and she’d bring us a menu «when she had the time». We waited for more than 20 minutes for a salad and 40 minutes for our pizza. They were not particularly busy, but they weren’t in much of a hurry for sure.
Worst MM location ever.

WARNING TO GLUTEN-​SENSITIVE DINERS!
If you have celiac disease or gluten intolerance /​allergy, beware of this mushroom location. I have twice been served pizza from this restaurant that triggered a violent reaction (those of us suffering from this condition know the rest and I won’t post further details). Even though the staff claim that special care is taken to isolate the ingredients and handling of your food (but only if you specify «for allergy» when ordering), obviously someone is not taking enough care to provide the safest handling or the ingredients need to be checked again. My allergy is not nearly as severe as some, which allows me to dine safely in nearly every restaurant with a simple request to the wait staff. With that in mind, obviously a huge issue is at play in the handling at this location. This is much worse than simple cross-​contamination. I find this despicable and sad, considering two points: the pizza is delicious and this wasn’t a problem at this location in the past. I can also say that I have not been «glutoned» at other mushroom locations.

This place has a great ambience. the food is reasonably priced. and the food servers are first class. the pizza it’s a little bit higher than your normal Papa Johns style pizza but it’s worth it because of all of the top quality ingredients. I wish they had a little more padding on their chairs but other than that it’s a wonderful place to be and eat

Ok, let me state it here directly — this place has the best customer service of any pizza place I’ve been to in a long time. The KSU Student Veterans Club comes here every week with our unruly 8 – 12 members and they put up with us and treat us like royalty.
The cheese you bread is addicting, the pretzels are solid, the spinach dip is quality, and the hummus is pretty good as well.
For pizza’s I’m a meatatarian so I can appreciate the «mighty meaty» in both calzone and by the pie form. (Truth be told even their «gourmet white» pizza is solid but don’t tell my buddies because they will think I’ve turned vegetarian communist)
Also, big shoutout to the Mgmt for letting us do this every week and letting Veterans bring their service dogs on the patio!

Received free garlic cheese bread by simply checking in and showing the waitress; and it was delicious. We ordered a medium pizza; half house style and the other half BBQ chicken. Both were great, but the house special has to be one of my favorite pizzas thus far.

I’ve been eating at Mellow Mushrooms all over Atlanta for years now. I enjoy the consistency across [most] locations, and the fresh ingredients. Mellow Mushroom falls into the comfort food category for me because I know what to expect whenever I order from there.
My first visit to this location was great. Our server was working the bar as well as our high top in front of it, and she did a great job considering all the things she was juggling. Most importantly, she was very conscious of my lactose-​free lifestyle. She made sure the kitchen didn’t add butter to any of my food, and I seriously appreciate her for that! Next time we come, I hope she’s working!
Before I had to stop eating dairy altogether (sad day!), I loved the pizzas at Mellow made with real cheese. Always great flavor profiles and really good cheese. However, I love that Mellow carries Daiya vegan cheese so I can still enjoy pizza without feeling awful the next day. It isn’t quite the same as regular cheese, but it’s better than a cheese-​less pizza, or worse, no pizza at all!
Mellow is also really good with special requests, such as half and half pizzas. That’s what J and I did on our last visit. He got what he wanted (with real cheese), and I got a different pizza on the other half with my vegan cheese. They’ll even let you if the bases are different.
Also, they offer gluten-​free crusts, and their red sauce is fantastic!
Mellow Mushroom, I’m glad you’re still around and are genuinely awesome. Keep up whatever it is that you’re doing!

I love Mellow Mushroom! Yummy pizza and a fun atmosphere! The rosemary chicken calzone is my favorite!

Been here twice. Becca was our server. She is super nice and sweet. Fast service on our drinks. Food is always great at MM. Bruschetta is the absolute best here. Pizza always delicious. I’ve never been let down by MM. Hooray!

Mediocre food at best for this location. Dough isn’t quite up to par. Hoagies are soggy, as is the pizza.

Good pizza but not exactly my type. My husband said it was better than most. It definitely has s Liively atmosphere and may need reservations on weekends. We were there on a Friday night but just missed the dinner crowd by getting there a little early.

I love this location! Mellow mushroom is great. The pizza is great, and it’s inexpensive. I’m always greeted and everyone is so friendly. They are right next to KSU, but the crowd is never rowdy, or too «collegey». This is quickly becoming my go-​to spot for a quick dinner and beer!

I love Mellow Mushroom and it’s because of the spring water crust and their tomato sauce. I don’t know what spring their using or how they make their sauce, but you could put dirt on top of it and it would still make an excellent pizza!!!
My faves are the Mellowterranean, Holy Shitake and the Mighty Meat. After today I believe I have to add a new one to that list but I don’t recall the name-it’s their version of a Margherita Pizza (cheese, basil, tomato). It was excellent and very fresh tasting.
I also love their Greek Salad and the Capris-​both are fresh and extremely flavorful. A small salad is pretty big too so you might wanna consider sharing if ur also having pizza, if not, eat the whole thing yourself.
The staff is very welcoming, friendly and attentive. This is actually true at every location I’ve been to so you really shouldn’t be concerned with poor service-​they have great staff.
There is indoor, outdoor and covered patio type seating at this particular location (Kennesaw) and I believe in Hiram too. There’s plenty of parking as well.
They have a full bar and serve the basic beer, wine, mixed drinks, sodas, etc.
I’ve never eaten dessert here but they do offer it.
No delivery. Televisions all around usually showing sporting events. Good for kids. Casual environment. Noise level is moderate depending on the time of year/​sport season-​it can get loud.
Overall, it’s a great place to enjoy pizza and chill with family or friends.

I heard all the hipe for this place. The pizza was average at best. Toppings scarce, not a whole lot of flavor and way over priced. Should have just done Dominos.
