Nice little local spot in Kemah with both indoor and outdoor seating. They have good mixed drinks, nice draft beer selection, staff is friendly. Don’t come here looking for anything fancy or any of the boardwalk crap, come here for the low-​key atmosphere and drinks. When the weather is nice, sit outside and catch a nice breeze, watch sports on the TV or people watch those heading over to the boardwalk. Parking can be a little struggle, again due to the tourist.
There are a few games inside, but don’t make that the point of your visit. Again– good drinks & staff and the local vibe here is what keeps us coming back!

Good lil locals place in kemah. Ya they got good drinks. Beer selection has improved since the last visit. Thats a win. Not sure if they have food. Yea they got golden tee. Aight i see you. Seriously, the staff is great and I like the patio area to chill with a good drink or beer. Stop in and avoid the boredwalk nonsense.

To debunk some of the older reviews– was nervous about coming here when I saw them but drove by the location first and thought we would try it out. Nice mix of people age 20’s to 50’s. The girls bathroom has a lock on it. The bartenders were friendly and we met some nice people playing pool. They also have a jukebox, shuffleboard, that knockout «punch the bag“game, and a good size patio.

Terrible place! A group of us met here for drinks after dinner and we didn’t stay long. The music was so loud outside on the patio that you could only have a conversation with one person and only if you were directly next to him/​her. We went inside where the volume was a little better, but the bartenders were rude. Ladies, have a friend stand guard at the restroom door while you do your business because the lock didn’t work. We finally got a clue and decided to leave. This is when I was told by the rude bartenders that they accidentally gave my credit card and tab to the wrong person. There was no manager on site and all I got was an «I’m sorry» from the rude bartenders. The next 30 minutes was spent on the phone with my bank fraud department, and this morning has been spent filing a police report. Needless to say, we will never return to the Monkey Bar.

Well I have had a great time here many times on the deck outside. Inside on a weekday it is low key and is mostly locals. One time there was no bartender for 15 minutes? They have draft and bottle beer as well as a full bar. They also have darts, shuffle board, and an internet juke box. A lot of time they have live music on the deck and it’s a big party. They don’t serve food but you are in luck because you can pop next door and get a gyro to go from Bakkhus! There are also several other bars just a few feet away! Over all it kicks the crap out of the Kemah Boardwalk tourist trap experience if you are an adult.

Smokey place. Everyone in there that Saturday afternoon was smoking. 19 people there and everyone of them were smoking. It looked like a neat spot, but I stayed for about half of my drink and had to leave to get some oxygen back in my lungs.

I enjoyed this bar! The bartender was very fast and friendly. The crowd in there seemed to be a bit older (no jerky college crowd on the night we went) and it was really laid back. I would definitely go back!

Similar to it’s neighbor, Palapa’s, Monkey Bar is one of the few places I love to hang when I’m in Kemah. The service is always efficient and they showcase great local bands on the weekends.
It’s super casual with a great patio that catches a nice breeze off the bay. They have a pool table and a few scattered video games, and even a dart board I think. The only downside is that people can smoke inside, and for that reason I spend most of my time here on the patio. The music is typically alternative rock, and the bands are the same genre. The staff is super friendly and make a stiff drink.
On my last visit, I had forgotten to close out my tab and realized when I got home. I called the bar and told them I was on my way back to get it. Just as I pulled up, I saw the bartenders heading to their cars and caught them. The girl was so nice and walked back to the bar to close out my tab for me so I could get my card! Now that’s service!

cool dive bar. big outside area. kind of an old crowd till about 10ish then some of the younger people come in. good band on the day i went. good selection of beer. no specials though.

Popped in here for a drink mid afternoon on a Saturday. M has an iphone app that shows local bar specials. Anyway, there were like 6 locals inside at the bar, no one else… anywhere. So, trying to avoid looking like a couple schmuck tourists, we ordered 2 Miller Lites and headed outside to sit on the huge patio. Even though it is down the road from the water, you can totally see the bay from the patio. This place is packed weekend evenings, so we will head back there another night.

awesome place, set up real nice, large and spacious, great location, been there about 3 times never a huge crowd great place to chill and have a drink with the lady, not the best place to rage with the boys.

You have to at least walk into this bar and order one drink if only to admire the many monkeys adorning the place. Kind of dumpy, but kind of kitschy — my kind of place! The beer was reasonably priced — and cold — both good qualities in beer! The patrons seemed nice and were VERY into the football game on the big TV. The smoke was an issue — they could use a smoke-​eater or two in the place, but it wasn’t bad enough to drive us out of there.
We’ll go back and you should, too…

This is one of the few places in «Galveston area» that i can say that I enjoyed the place as much as the company. Most times I go out down there I don’t really care for the spots we go out, its always my friends that make the evening fun. But this place was the exception to the rule. Its had all the elements I like in a bar. Good prices, shuffle board, darts, and a big patio. I had a great time hanging out there. Its was good times all around. My only problem with it would be that there is smoking inside, did kind of make the ol eyes burn.
I would have to say it has become my favorite spot in that area. Now I just have to find someplace better. Like Diddy… Can’t stop, won’t stop eh eh eh eh

Very casual hang out bar. Lots of outside seating, sometimes a weekend live band performs so it tends to be crowded. The insides have a couple of pool tables and pub tables along the long bar.
A couple of choices very close in the area if you want to bar hop.
