History

Established in 1996.

Dr. John graduated from OHSU in 1988 and then honed his dental skills abroad with the U.S. Army. He returned to the states to practice General Dentistry in the Salem and Portland area when he was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania Orthodontic Program. Dr. John then returned to Salem in 1996 to practice Orthodontics with his father and internationally known Orthodontist Dr. Terry McDonald. Dr. John and Dr. Terry practiced together until 2009 when Dr. Terry retired to focus on teaching orthodontics at OHSU, windsurfing, fishing and traveling.

Dr John McDonald has been in the practice of Orthodontics since 1996. His is one of only 2 board certified Orthodontists in Salem. He practiced in Partnership with his father Terry until he retired in 2010. Dr McDonald attended Dental school at OHSU then served 4 years in the US Army including tours in Korea and Germany. He received his Orthodontic specialty training at University of Pennsylvania graduating in 1996. He not only practices orthodontics, he has lectured around the country and online on orthodontic diagnosis and treatment mechanics. He is married to Meredith, and has 2 children, Claire age 13, and Isaac, age 10. Dr McDonald moved to Salem at age 6 and attended McKinley, Leslie, and South Salem High School. He is an active outdoors lover of skiing, fishing, hunting and hiking. Lately, he spends more time attending his children’s baseball and soccer games as well as dance and orchestra recitals.
