I’m sure you’re well-aware that in the Unilocal by-laws if you check-in 50 times to a place you’re required to write a review.(Okay, I just made that up — but it sounds plausible, right?) For the record — I’ve been to Brothers probably a thousand times(it was originally called Bobers or Bolbers but that was before my time) and back in the day this place would’ve easily gotten 5 stars from me. But over time they’ve made changes(everything from the front entrance to adding a deli/sandwich station to even the breads and rolls taste and texture not what I remember) and if I’m being straight up… they lost a star along the way. Still — it’s my go-to place even though I lives a few towns away now and not just a few blocks away.(Nothing was better than getting fresh loaves of bread still warm and mushy on the inside and coming home and dipping big hunks straight into the simmering Sunday gravy that was already on the stove for two hours and it was only 8 in the morning.) They’ve been able to survive in the not-so-best half of Kearny for decades — fending off competitors and changing demographics — and I hope they’ll continue to thrive for decades to come.

Brother’s has the best rolls ever. Add some butter and you’re all set. Their cakes are delicious as well. Prices are high tho. Better bring a coupon from the local paper.

I have tried this bakery twice. My first experience was with stale lobster tail pastries. I had come in during the morning hours. Not only were the pastries stale but we had ordered multiple other nauseating pastries, such as the angel food cake. The employee had not paid attention to our order and placed the wrong amount of these pastries as well as random others that were near what we had wanted. I got home and the lobster tail pastry had discolored custard inside which was extremely unappetizing. My second visit was also in the morning, hoping maybe other products would be better. No other bakeries in the area had cakes available at this time. We ordered cannoli’s and a derby cake. The cannoli’s were not fresh. The crème was pasty and powdery, the shell was soft and stale. The derby cake was horrendous. The cake was that of a twinkie, the cream left a bitter after taste in your mouth and the fruit was near rotted. You will do 10x better at Shop Rite. I will not be returning. I wouldn’t recommend this bakery to anyone.

Fantastic breads and pastries. Everything is freshly baked. The strawberry shortcake with vanilla cake is superb. The strawberry shortcake with chocolate cake is phenomenal!!! French bread is super yum! I could live on it and just put butter on it. Reasonably priced. Go to Brothers. You won’t be sorry.

Popped in here for the first time with my wife yesterday after taking a trip to Kearny to visit Stewart’s Scottish market on the next block. It looked cute from the outside and we were hungry so when we saw they did wraps and paninis we decided to sit down a get a meal. The girls working were very friendly and the owner took our order. I had a eggplant, lettuce, tomato, roasted red pepper, fresh mozzarella and provolone panini while my wife had a chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe panini. They were brought to our table 10 minutes later with a a side of balsamic vinaigrette and pasta salad. WOW !! We were both amazed at how delicious the food was, the bread was amazing and the food was fresh and really tasty. The owner asked us how it was halfway through and we gave him a thumbs up. As we wound down the meal, he came over with a delicious little pastry for us saying«Here’s a little desert for you». Friendly customer service, delicious food, and a cute atmosphere. The owner asked us where we were from(Staten Island) and thanked us for choosing them. We would definitely eat here again as it’s a hidden gem. Look forward to trying some of the baked goods next time!

I like their jelly donuts and their muffins, but I dislike their eclere. It is more like a cake with boaton cream. Customer service needs improvements.

This place was the most horrible place I’ve been to. They women are racist and rude. I’m Hispanic. I made the line like everyone else and they would ask everyone else if they were helped while we stood there in front of the register trying to pay for what we didn’t even eat. How do you mess up ham cheese and egg on a bagel? They cooked the egg on a dirty grill that had pieces of burnt food in it. The overall experience was horrible and lousy. I would never go there again and I sure as hell wouldn’t recommend anyone does. I never got my coffee and orange juice that I asked for 3 times. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. They def need better staff.

Their goods taste fantastic and they are always clean and tidy. They do special orders and attempt to work on your schedule. They’ve been around for so long and are a staple in this part of NJ. Love, love, love them!

This is a good neighborhood bakery. I live in California and whenever I visit my sister in Kearny I pop by here. I love to go here in the morning when the baked good are the fresh and right out of the oven. It reminds me of growing up in Brooklyn and getting fresh bread on weekend mornings for breakfast.

I come here a lot. All i have to say is that the food is good, but the women workers are beyond rude. Do not want to help and is all on the side eating the food themselves. One worker decided to help when I said something about it, and when she was talking ended up spitting the food she was eating.

Nice old fashion styled baking. The rye bread was exactly the type I grew up on. I had a jelly doughnut that was fresh and doused with powdered sugar. The girl that waited on me was friendly and there’s free off street parking… a worthy bakery…(Someone mentioned in a review that they don’t have sandwiches here, they DO and the selection seems good)

I’ve only had the danishes. I got one of each flavor. Some are obviously better than others, but they are all amazing. I can’t believe they are so cheap. I am definitely going back for special occasions. I won’t go back too often because the stuff is so good that I’ll gain a few pounds with every trip!

i’ve been to this location 2x this month –they have a small parking lot which comes in handy as street parking can sometimes be tough — clerks are professional if not too sociable prices are reasonable nothing quoted raised my eyebrows fyi like another reviewer mentioned this one unlike their sister place in clifton does not have a deli so get your sanwiches elsewhere in no particular order i’ll review each item i’ve gotten rasp jelly donuts(granulated sugar coated NOT powder) — loaded with jelly it amost leaks thru the bag – sort of the opp of dunkin donuts 5.0 cream donuts(powder sugar) one was decently filled – the other barely a speck– 2.5 apple turnovers — good amt of apple pieces & compote – if you microwave tastes like it was just made 5.0 iced brownies — icing ok but brownie(cake) portion virtually raw – had indigestion — bought 4 threw out 21.0 fruit danish(round) — small amount of fruit(barely more than quarter coin) – danish ok 2.0 cheese danish(large personal pizza size) with crumb topping — every bite literally had ¼″ of cheese – superfresh – probably one of the best if not the best cheese danish i’ve ever had 5.0 same as above but in indivdual single size – almost as good but no crumbs but same plentiful amount of cheese 4.5 rye — fresh but not too much taste 3.0 canolis — fresh, very good 4.5 carrot cake(individual) — very good 4.5 red velvet cake(individual) – creamy but not that tasty & ratio of icing to cake was 3:1 overkill 1.5 averages out to 3.6 so based on the other reviews i’ll round up to 4

JUSTTOBECLEAR, THISPLACEDOESNOTHAVE A DELI! Brothers is a really good bakery that has hands down the best sun-dried tomato bread on earth. It is worth the trip They also make an excellent ice Cream cake that has actual cake as opposed to just Ice Cream Service can be slow and a little curt, but its extremely good stuff

Haven’t been to the one in Kearny but they recently took over the old Allwood Bakery(which stunk) and I went in there for the first time today. One word… outstanding! Their products are so fresh and delicious. I wanted to buy everything in sight before I look like a Mac truck. Definitely worthy the title as one of the best bakeries in NJ.
