Katonah Reading Room

This lovely nook has carefully made sandwiches and coffee that would school the taste buds of any mass market barista. It is in a lovely setting, the service staff are friendly & helpful. The smoked salmon sandwich more than filled me and their selection of groceries on hand including local dairy products made my heart sing. This place is a great nosh on your way to muscoot fatm

Such a fun place to get great sandwiches, pastries, coffee, tea.

I’m not a fan of places that are populated by the Me-​firsts. Buy a single coffee or iced tea, pull out your laptop and spend the next 2 hours surfing the net while tying up a table. On the flip side, I don’t know how often these folks come in and, who knows, maybe they drop a hun or 2 every month. But on my visit, it’s a whole lot of coffee cups and laptops. (Not that it matters, but Starbucks in Yorktown has the same problem.)
Anyway, my Falafel sandwich was good, but fell apart at the first bite.
Cute place, but while I might swing in for a coffee and muffin, lunch will be somewhere else next time.

I love the décor, this place has a history behind it and who doesn’t love things with a history associated with it? Everything in there are locally sourced. I tried the chicken sandwich and it was surprisingly good. The chicken was tender and juicy. This is also dog friendly (outside porch to sit). Definitely coming back with my pooch to get a coffee and enjoy the sun a little. Coffee was also good too! I believe there’s a parking lot behind it but I parked on the street as there are plenty of street parking anyway.

So when I first walked in, it seemed like a nice little cozy book café and it was. But the lady who took our order wasn’t mean, but she didn’t make an effort to be friendly. I ordered a normal hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut. It was $ 8.00! But luckily, it was a fabulous hot dog. It was delicious, but I would probably pay $ 4.00. I’m not sure if I will be back

I love this place. Great for lunch. The small salads are big enough for a side dinner salad to take out. Love the selection of locally sourced groceries. Balthazar bread! The French fries are so delicious. I don’t know what they do to them? Love that they sell Mexican Coke! The book selection is great. It’s just a perfect little spot for lunch or a snack!

Worth checking out if your in the area. Some stuff may seem a little pricey, but hey you get what you pay for.
I especially love there pumpkin muffin, along with a cup of coffee or tea. Just delish!

Cozy place to grab a good coffee/​tea beverage and a bite to eat. The coffee, the iced in particular is really awesome (am iced coffee drinker winter, spring, summer, fall ;-)). They also have simple syrup to sweeten your iced beverage, no unmelted sugar, thank you very much! Really yummy baked goods, snack foods, salads, sammies, and toasts. People complaining it’s overpriced. The prices reflect the high quality of ingredients of all things made and sold here. And really the prices are pretty average for this area (and equivalent to crappy Starbucks — ugh I hate large chain places like that). Haters gonna hate hate hate! I for one love to support local «mom and pop» businesses. Bottom line — DAMN GOOD COFFEE!

I love the atmosphere. Very cozy and welcoming. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly. I wish we had a place like this in my town. I definitely plan to go back soon. I especially like the avocado/​scramble egg sandwich and the great cappuccino! I picked up some nice items like specialty vinegar, fresh bread, granola, cheeses, spiced nut mix to put on salad, and other cool stuff.

The Reading Room is an adorable, albeit overpriced, café located in the heart of Katonah Village right by the train station!
I came to The Reading Room on an empty stomach and so my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach when I ordered lunch here, but my dad was more than happy to finish my leftovers. For lunch, I ordered the dark salad (a delicious kale salad with vegetables, Parmesan cheese, and nuts) with avocado (extra $$) and their soup of the day, a tomato soup. My dad and stepmom each got salads as well.
I had no problem with the food itself; in fact, the food was superb. My problem, on the other hand, was the outrageous prices. The small soup was $ 7 and for a salad with avocado, it came to $ 13. For lunch for 3, our bill totaled to over $ 50. WTF? We came to a café for a cheap, light lunch, not Nobu.
Even though the price of the food left a bitter taste in my mouth, the food was delicious. The soup had a bit of a tang to it – maybe some Thai spices? – and it was perfect on a fall afternoon. The salad was also incredible paired with the balsamic dressing. Definitely one of the best parts of the café was their delicious dressings!
My only other problem with this café was the apathetic servers. When we went to the register to order, our cashier seemed distant and begging to be somewhere else. I just wanted to get out of there!
I would certainly come back here, but only if someone else is paying.

Great food. Yes it may be pricey but I’ll pay a premium for both the food and just to have a place like this 500 feet from my house. It adds to the character of Katonah as does their bookstore. You want cheap volume, go to a diner.

Cute place, but very very overpriced. Lower the costs, and you might make more money from volume. Also should be open at 6am for commuters

The Reading Room, with it’s warm atmosphere, delicious food, excellent coffee and welcoming staff, has become a great «go-​to» spot in Katonah. It’s beautiful garden, porch, and books/​newspapers inside reflect the historic location of Katonah’s first library, while also creating a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere inside. It’s the best place in the Village to meet friends and the avocado toast is totally addictive. Love that it’s now open in Sunday’s, too.

Great food! High quality fresh ingredients that really make the difference! Pricey but you get what you pay for!

This was a great find! Nice atmosphere; well curated gourmet food and books. I can understand what some customers are saying about the sandwiches being small though. I had a salad that was huge, while my girlfriend ordered a sandwich that left her needing to eat ¼ of my salad (which was fine by me).

My new favorite place in Katonah! The «toast sandwiches» and coffee cannot be beat! My favorites so far are the avocado toast and salmon toast — so delicious! Plus that iced coffee is really incredible. I haven’t tried many of their grocery items, but many items are local, which is a great way to support small business.

Excellent coffee, but their hours need to be expanded. They leave their «Open» sign displayed on Sundays when they’re closed.

Food is expensive.
The food that is not expensive is such a meager portion it’s embarrassing receiving it for the first time — really, is that it for $ 7?
Overall the place is pleasant, good coffee but, the food offerings need deep work.
I will personally no longer spend money at a lunch spot that makes me feel like I was scammed.
Let’s not do this anymore food eateries — «gourmet» place that leaves you hungry and wanting more.

A friendly stop with well-​curated food. Best barista in the area. Sit and enjoy a conversation or grab take out food. Sandwiches are good, but could use a bit more meat. Clearly there is a demand for this new place as there is a constant stream of customers, but it is never overcrowded.
