Bank of Hawaii

I don’t personally bank with them, I bank with navy fed, however I got my auto loan through Bank of Hawaii because they have a great deal with auto financing for 0% interest. Every time I go to this bank to make my monthly auto payments, I have received nothing but great customer service and for some reason, I usually see Natalie, one of the reps and she is always smiling and helpful. They also have a front clerk that is benevolent when you have general questions answered instead of having to wait in line compared to other branches which don’t have them. I’ll be relocating soon and they easily assisted me with the process in obtaining my approval to transport my vehicle since I am continuing to finance through BOH. Got my Lien Authorization Letter of approval today so I will no longer be going here, however I will miss the aloha and great service provided at this branch.

There’s nothing like checking your monthly credit card statement and seeing a $ 10.40 cash advance fee that you did not authorize. I stopped by on January 14, 2015 to pay for the first payment of my auto loan payment that has a 2.9% interest rate. I got charged another 2.9% for a double fee.
I mentioned to the teller that I did not have $ 350 or so in cash on me and if I could pay by credit. She said it was okay. She did not mention that it would be drawn from my credit card as a cash advance and it did not show this on the receipt that I signed. Knowing this, I could have simply gone to the ATM and withdraw the cash to pay from my bank account. It is really wrong to be charged a hidden fee without letting the person you’re charging know that you are doing so.
Make sure you bring a lot of cash if you’re paying off your loan!

Love this bank. It’s always clean and neat. Was pleasantly surprised that is was open on a Saturday. Did some last minute banking. Had an old man behind me huffing and puffing cause the long line. But it was moving fast. Got to the Bank Teller, Jacinda was very friendly. Answered all my questions about my online banking and account. Had a very pleasantly conversation while she completed my transaction. What can I say… «That’s My Bank!»

This is my favorite west side branch. I’m hardly ever out on that side and need banking done, but when I do, I’ll drive to Kapolei to get it done. It’s such a beautiful branch! And they’re open on Saturdays! It’s busy, but duh. It’s a bank. On a Saturday.
Oh, another thing! People who are complaining about fees… if the charges were unauthorized, all you need to do is file a dispute (which you need to do anyways), and they will investigate for you, get your money back, then reverse the fees.
If the charges were in fact authorized by you, then you should write a negative Unilocal review on yourself for being so irresponsible, not on the bank who paid the charge and ensured that you wouldn’t be embarrased by whomever accepted the payment. kthanksbai!

Let me start by saying that I LOVE BANK OF HAWAII… at Pearlridge.
I came to Kapolei because I was in the area and occasionally go here to get a quick transaction done. EVERY TIME I go in, I feel like a stranger. I have been in there only about 10 times, but you would think someone would recognize you and say welcome at least once… I mean dang… I want to feel like a valued customer.
The receptionist usually doesn’t even speak… except when I’m on the way out and the Filipina lady that sits to the left next to the guy is SOOO freakin loud and kinda ghetto. I mean I don’t mind me some good pigeon, but this is a BANK!!! It is just so unprofessional. She had to help me once and I just wanted to run out of the branch.
Oh and please tell me why your drive thru ATM is «inoperable» all the time or «out of service»…frustrating that you have to go in to the foyer to use the ATM. This has happened on several occasions.
I’m going to leave a GREAT review in a second for Pearlridge branch. They are so perfectly opposite! Now I make a point to drive all the way there just to bank.
Kapolei needs to take some tips from Pearlridge for sure.

There’s a difference between a so so bank and a great bank. This one happens to be bipolar and fluctuates between the two. When I first opened my account 9 years ago, it was FABULOUS! There was nothing to complain about. When a fluke accident happened, my fabulous bank wasn’t so fabulous anymore.
I explained to Bank of Hawaii’s customer service line that I was charged $ 26 three times due to my paypal account taking out $ 1.69 three times from my checking account instead of taking it out from my paypal balance. So I was charged $ 78 for a mere $ 5.07 overdraft mistake. Anyway, customer service said the only one who could reverse those charges is the branch where I opened up my account in the first place. She proceeded to transfer me over so I could talk to someone there. I was transferred to an answering machine that didn’t even state a name. So I called back to the Kapolei branch phone number to talk to someone, but it brought me back to Bank of Hawaii’s customer service line. I explained my situation again and this service rep stated she would write an email to the Kapolei branch manager who would then call me. After two business days, I received nothing! I call the customer service line for the third time who finally said they could take off one $ 26 overdraft charge but the other two would have to be discussed with the branch manager at the Kapolei branch since that’s where my account was opened. She added that they are the only ones who have the authority to reverse the last two $ 26 overdraft charges.
I decide to drive down there in between shuttling my two young children and explain my dilemma. Finally, I speak to the branch manager who stated that I needed to get a letter from paypal stating they made a mistake. Then and only then would she remove one additional $ 26 overdraft charge, but not both. She asked if I talked to service reps at Bank of Hawaii? She also asked if I talked to Paypal to get them to credit me the overdraft charges?! She then added that she doesn’t have the authority to remove both of them… WELL THEN, WHO DOES???
Bank of Hawaii is throwing me to the branch manager saying they’re the only ones who could reverse the charge. The branch manager is throwing me back to customer service saying she isn’t given the authority to reverse the charges. Make up your MINDS!!! What a waste of time and money. I decided to close my account on the spot. There’s absolutely no way I’d continue to bank at an institution where they would allow $ 78 of overdraft charges for a $ 5.07 overdraft and not allow a one time credit of charges. More than anything, I don’t want my time wasted and I sure don’t want to be a boomerang being thrown back and forth!

We do not bank for Bank of Hawaii since we live in CA, but we were in desperate need of a notary. We walked in and were welcomed and taken care of right away. Thank you! We really needed the help this day :)

They do not exchange yen for dollars. Boo. They close at 4 pm. Boo. They have charged me a few fees that I felt were excessive and then they charged me a fee by accident and were not very apologetic when I pointed it out. Finally I had to close my account. I’m just not feeling this branch. I think because it’s a new branch, they may need to just get their act together. So I may give them another chance in a few years.

Debit card got hacked. Very helpful in showing strategies for protecting funds. Now disputing fraudulent charges. This branch is in the boonies.

I come to this Bank of Hawaii location because It’s convenient, and the workers are really helpful and friendly. It was also recently built, so it smells like a new house and is very clean.
During peak hours, there should be more workers — the line can get really long. I also hate being asked «Have you spoken to our investment lady? You should speak to her, it’ll be really quick. (No.) You sure? (Yes.) Come on, it’ll be fast. (No.) I’ll set an appointment for you to meet her. (No!)» So irritating. Do the tellers receive compensation for referrals? I did meet the investment lady one time, but she was really aggressive.
Location: Located next to Target, after you’re done banking, you can do some shopping at Target, Down to Earth, Costco, etc.
Parking: There’s a lot of parking, even during peak hours. You might have to walk a little more, but it’s okay.

The Pros:
It’s a fairly new branch, so its very spacious, inviting, and very close to the freeway. Also has a drive-​thru ATM for when you’re on the go. The tellers there are very friendly and I’m often greeted as soon as I walk in by the front desk. Parking has never been an issue.
The Cons:
Unfortunately, a lot of people like this branch… a lot, lol, so during rush hour times, the line can get very long. Outside of those times, say earlier in the morning or right before closing, are the best times to go.
Overall: I gotta say, of all the banks I’ve ever used, this is my favorite yet! If you’re a student such as myself, or anyone looking for a bank with tons of atm’s, great customer service, and totally free checking, then definitely give this place a try! Very satisfied =]

If you think about it, it is a bit difficult to write a review for a bank. I mean seriously, what do you say? Thanks for holding my money for me, highly appreciate it?
Okay — seriousness. Excellent customer service. When my husband and I first came to Hawaii, we came here to set up a local account. The service was wonderful and the lady that helped us was very kind.
Everytime I come here there is great service. Never too long of lines inside either which is nice. And plenty of parking.

Excellent customer service. 100 times better than the Ward location. Nice looking girls too…
