Aardvark Moving

Aardvark moving moved us from a suburb of KC, MO to Lincoln, NE in October, 2015. When they came out to our home to give us the estimate they said they would wrap all furniture in plastic. The only furniture that was wrapped in plastic was some of the wood furniture such as dressers, night stands, etc. They didn’t wrap any of the couches and chairs, etc. Yes, they were timely and polite, I will give them that. But they beat the crap out of so much of our furniture; broke a glass shelf in an antique china cabinet they claim they wrapped in a blanket. They beat the crap out of the bedroom furniture and expensive a very expensive picture frame that cost over $ 500.00. Josh reassembled the pedal assembly of our baby grand piano such that when I played it, it sounded as if I was playing bells. My husband called Josh and explained that problem (and other problems) to him and Josh said we should get the piano pedals fixed and he would reimburse us for it. As is set out in their contract, I made a written claim and sent pictures of all of the damages to the furniture and I sent the receipt for the piano repair by certified mail, return receipt requested. I also sent 3 estimates to replace the broken antique china shelf and my kitchen table. I may as well have thrown my letter in the trash because it got us nowhere with Aardvark. According to the damage claim they provided to us, we are only entitled to be reimbursed $.60 per pound for broken furniture (the glass). They ruined my Ethan Allen kitchen table top because it wasn’t wrapped properly and it was rubbed so much that it scratched it such that to repair it would cost as much as replacing it, (I went to 2 different glass places in Lincoln, NE to talk to them about this.) We haven’t received a dime from Aardvark Moving to date. They walked out the door and they were done with us. They don’t give a crap about their customer satisfaction. I recommend that you stay far, far away from this company. If you do, read the contract carefully and buy extra insurance because they won’t pay you anything if you just go with the regular insurance. I would never recommend them to anyone to move a chair! Since I hadn’t heard from them or received a written response from them after I sent the claim, (is that called a «double standard» when they require a claim be made within 90 days, and mailed by certified mail, RRR) I e-​mailed them and the e-​mail bounced back to me as undeliverable. We never got a written response to our complaint. Am I pleased with them after paying them over $ 4 grand? Heck no. I will be filing complaints with the BBB in Lincoln, NE and in KC, MO on Aardvark. Just to be clear, the issue with the baby grand piano has nothing to do with tuning; the problem is that the pedals were not reassembled correctly and we had to pay for them to be fixed. Cost more to replace stolen/​damaged items than to move. I’ve used Aardvark for a previous move and even recommended them to my friend who had no issues, but with my move on 11÷30÷15 the entire experience was horrible from start to finish.
1. They arrived late even though I called and spoke with the manager several times in advance about the move in window at my apartment
2. They didn’t arrive with the extra closet boxes I paid for (and you have to return all the closet boxes, even though I paid for them)
3. They don’t protect any of your furniture so they broke the mirror front of my nightstand
4. They broke the leg on my arm chair
5. They STOLE my Sonos Play 5 speaker ($ 499) and delivered an EMPTY box for me to find
6. I was asked to pay more than my «Not to Exceed» quote
It’s crazy that your property can be stolen during a move and there is practically nothing that can be done about it. I’ve been working with the police and Sonos to no avail. They did help move an item that was not listed in my inventory and I even gave them a TV stand and tipped 20%. The management is not able to do much of anything and there is just no help for stolen items. I will never use or recommend them again.

I had great experiences using aardvark twice. They showed up to move my 88 year old grandma when all my sons bailed just an hour before our planned moving time. They also moved my 3 bedroom house quickly and under the original estimate! The guys are very nice and moved us in the rain without getting anything wet.

Used them 2 times in 10 days. The first crew was fast and polite. I gave them a 25 dollar tip each. The second big move was 4 men took longer with only 3 things added. They asked for tips right out of the truck. They were slow and broke the leg of off my 100 year old Buffett. I watched the other men unload it. But with this group I let them go to unit and load them self’s. BAD MISTAKE !!! They took 2 extra hours playing around and broke my stuff. They dropped boxes off in the garage so they didn’t have to carry to the rooms… NEVER AGAIN… Pretty trashy looking men the second time and I asked for the same people again… Bad customer service… NEVER AGAIN… I had a box of pictures and they broke the whole box. They were 2 hours late also. We had no where to set and wait…

My husband hired this moving company at the recommendation of a co-​worker. They had good rates and seemed organized and professional enough when we were coordinating with them about our move. On the day of the move, it all fell apart. We expected professional movers to show up and were surprised when 3 sketchy looking individuals arrived – none of them wore uniforms and one even wore an oversized tank top. They began moving our things and quickly became sweaty – understandable given the work, but they began sweating all over our furniture, which they hadn’t covered. As their hands became dirty, so did our furniture. I took photos of the filth that was left behind on our sectional, couches, and arm chair. I had to rent a furniture cleaner immediately before we would even sit on them. Furthermore, we had been told by the Aardvark office staff that they would move boxes that were open (such as boxes with pictures that were protruding out of the top. The movers refused to move open boxes so we had to make a total of 13 extra trips back and forth in my small car in order to get everything moved. Obviously if they hadn’t told us on the phone that they would move these, we would have found a different way to package all that stuff up. When we arrived at our new residence, the guys were sopping wet with sweat and their hands were absolutely black with dirt. My husband asked them to wash their hands and only one of the 3 men obliged. One of the movers threw our couch onto his sweaty back and proceeded to carry it into the house like that. He was hitting walls and even knocked the chandelier around as he came in. Another mover carried a part of our light-​colored sectional in by himself, basically tossed it onto the floor and then hoisted himself up by planting his filthy hand on the wall. A giant handprint was left on the sectional and on our wall.
Following the move, I called the owner of the moving company to share our experience and lodge a complaint. The owner was unapologetic. I complained that they were clearly not trained to be professional movers (what professional mover throws a couch onto their sweaty back and moves it by themselves??) and the owner indicated that his movers were «professionals» but admitted they should have been wearing their uniforms (a.k.a. their Aardvark t-​shirts). I asked if the movers had been screened for criminal records and he admitted that most of his guys DO have criminal records, but he thought everyone deserved a second chance. I believe in second chances too, but these guys are coming into people’s homes, handling their valuables, and could potentially be dangerous! I try to avoid having criminals in my home and then I actually paid them to come over. What?! The owner, who turned out to be a hot-​head, also said that no moving company is perfect and no moving company is able to do a perfect job. He said the movers «are human and forget things.» Um… they forgot their gloves, hand-​washing procedures, uniforms, procedural guidelines for moving heavy items and loads, and how to wipe dripping sweat from their brows. I’m not sure these movers did anything right and the most disturbing part was that the owner didn’t seem to think there was a problem with any of these practices.
I caution anyone against using this company. It was absolutely the worst service experience I’ve had and it made me sick to my stomach to see my things ruined with sweat and dirt, see my brand new walls defiled with black handprints, and to find out later that I spent the day with convicted criminals who could have potentially been dangerous or thieves. A saving grace would have been an owner or manager who was understanding and apologetic, but his attitude told me that he cares only about getting his money and customer service is the furthest thing from his mind.

Worst company! Damaged property, rude, disrespectful, lied, said damage was cosmetic and only want to cover a portion of damage, didn’t even move one item in. HORRIBLE! I have never witnessed a more disrespectful person at a place of business EVER! Please DO NOT use this company!

Damage-​Free is a load of crap. I hired them to move my belongs from my apartment to a house I was renting. The previous tenant hadn’t moved out yet, but agreed that I could move my things in a day early. The movers ripped open the previous tenant’s exercise ball, and Christine told me she would send me a damage claim form and that a print out of the cost of a replacement or a receipt for the purchase of a replacement would be sufficient documentation, along with a picture of the damage. I took pictures and bought the new tenant a new ball from Walmart for $ 20. Chrstine never sent the damage form, despite me sending two additional emails asking her to do so. When I called to speak with her, I was told that I needed to send in a repair estimate — a repair estimate for an exercise ball? Are you kidding me? When I reminded her that she told me I could give them a receipt or printout of the cost of a replacement, she said, «Ok. But how much does it weigh? If it’s less than 5 pounds, the most the insurance will pay is $ 3. We can give the the $ 3 now if you want to come get it. That’s the contract you signed.» So you want me to drive to Blue Springs, from KCMO, to pick up $ 3, when YOU ALL ARE THE ONES THAT DID THE DAMAGE AND OWE ME $ 20? I don’t think so. Stay away from these people. They are shady. I wouldn’t recommend them. Put your money toward a reputable company that will pay for whatever damage THEY CAUSE.
