Great place to hang out for live music and a good time with friends! We stopped by this place a few times on our last couple trips to KC to finish off the evenings. Our waitresses were great, and we were always well taken care of. The beer selection is decent, considering that’s what usually draws me to a place. They have live music, which isn’t too loud if you’re just there to hang out. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a less busy bar in the Westport area. Plus, they have a great restaurant with an awesome menu that you can order food from. It also has a walk up window in the back alley for all the drunkards. Nothing like grabbing a Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich at 2 am from a dark alley window.

We stopped in on Saturday Night after wandering up to Westport from our hotel and were pleasantly surprised. I informed the bartender that we were in from out of town and he introduced himself(Steven) and helped my friend pick a drink since she was unsure of what to order. We sat in the back, there were some bands to play that night. It was nice and cool in the back, slightly humid/hot in the front as they had the doors open. There was a waitress hustling around and she was awesome. I did end up going to the bar once to grab another round, but after that, I think she noticed and we never went back up to the bar for beers and she brought us a pitcher of water as well. Beer selection is good here as well. Lots of local microbrews and domestics. Also, seems to be a whiskey bar if that’s your thing as well. I would definitely return here.

Me and my friends stumbled into the Westport Saloon Monday evening. I devoured an Al’s burger with hearty fries. My friend had the Mac and cheese which disappeared very quickly. They were both recommended by Kenny the bartender. Open mic started at 9 and featured some very impressive local talent!

This establishment does not like gay people. In fact I was kicked out because what I was wearing was offensive(blue skinny jeans and a pink shirt). I was grabbed by an African American Bouncer and told I was gay and needed to leave. This establishment needs to be closed down for living in the past.

Westport Saloon fills a void for me that is much needed in KC: good live music, an ode to classic country, and good drinks. While it’s tough to top Knucklehead’s Saloon for a pure honky-tonk atmosphere, Westport Saloon does a good job by being more accessible and having some good local musicians through their doors. My first experience here was at the Westport Roots Festival that took place throughout their spot and spilled into the outdoor stage in the neighboring parking lot. The parking lot that I should point out is about to become a Qdoba… Boo-urns! Anyways, this space is L-shaped, allowing a bar with TV’s and windows open on nice days, a stage, and a little extra space. I love classic country musicians like Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, Johnny Cash, etc. and they have a nice ode to all of them on the walls. This is a place that keeps it lively, has a good food stand attached(Eat Me Gourmet) and a nice change of pace in Westport. Check it out.

Awesome bar where all the locals hang out. Happy hour changes daily, great selection of top shelf bourbons, craft beers and the like. Bartenders Will and Blake will definitely take care of you. Burgers are amazing! Don’t leave without getting a bite to eat, this place is truly a hidden gem.

The Westport Saloon brings a hint of the old West to Westport and while it puts forth a good effort and even some good ideas, the execution just isn’t there yet. The bar features boot stomping live music of the rockabilly, blues and dirt rock variety in addition to good food, cold drinks and a couple of cool promotions. I would recommend checking the schedule and also liking the bar’s Facebook page. I stopped in for the advertised Spaghetti Western Thursday, which features all you can eat spaghetti(you can order off of the full Eat Me at any time including if you’re not into spaghetti) while the tvs play an old spaghetti western movie. Excellent idea(there’s also a comfort dinner on Sunday nights, check out their website and Facebook page,) but here’s where my complaint comes: a $ 10 bottomless plate of spaghetti isn’t bad for the price, but the spaghetti took a while to cook(it’s spaghetti) and then after eating our server took our plates and brought our checks without asking if we wanted any additional food. I would have at least liked the option of a second plate. During another visit, I stopped in towards the end of a happy hour. Once again, the food was good, but I felt like I was a distraction to the bartender who had to come out and check on me. Neither time was super busy, but I almost felt like there should be a full time server on the floor so the bartenders could concentrate on who was at the bar. These aren’t huge issues, but I think the night will become a lot more fun if they’re ironed out. Now drinkers… I know that a lot of you like whiskey, which seems to really be in style right now, and The Saloon does not disappoint. Two large chalkboards hung above the bar listing not only what beers were available, but also including a decent section to its whiskeys. There’s also a small cocktail menu that offers some of the trendier craft cocktails. You should be able to find what you like. You’re in Westport, so eat up(at your leisure,) drink up and enjoy yourselves. There’s plenty to do here.

Man I love this place. Sometime this year, my tastes have morphed from a vodka-only type of gal to a rich, smoky, soulful whiskey type of gal. Well, this happens to be a fine establishment if you are looking for a tasty cocktail and your husband is looking to swill super cheap PBR’s. Also, the ambiance is perfect. The large glass garage-door front window looks out onto Pennsylvania Ave and in the summer, rolls open wide to allow for cool breezes and funny snippets of conversations to waft in as you enjoy the live music. Music, you ask? YES. Amazing music, in fact. Guitars made of cigar boxes, bass drums of vintage, metal flour tubs and performers wearing washboard vests walk through the doors regularly and provide an awesome musical backdrop for your evening(or middle of the day– I don’t judge). Check out their website and show up on a night with live music. You’ll be happy you did.

Not a bad joint… usually hit here for the great happy hour… always great music playing… only a 3 star visit… this time… hard to give better when waiting for the bartender to quit texting while I’m sitting at the bar waiting to be served…

One of the only bars I know with no air conditioning! That’s insane! If a 4 man band plays, there’s no room for them to move on stage. Too much staff walking around with nothing to do, but pick up your beer to see how full it is every 5 minutes.

This is a place I could easily love, if they would utilize air conditioning on 90+ degree days or at the minimum, turn on the ceiling fans. Sadly you are left terribly uncomfortable. I was the only person sitting at the bar and there was a table of gentleman enjoying some happy hour drinks. If the place would have actually been busy, it would have elevated being uncomfortably warm to heat stroke. My reason for stopping was to try the food. Westport Saloon serves food from Eat Me. A little kitchen with a window in Westport Saloon and a walk up window outside. I tried the Cuban with some fresh pork skins. The pork skins were over seasoned. There is a fine line between putting a sprinkle of chili on something to give heat and overdoing it to where it just has a dirty taste to it. These were the later. The Cuban is easily the best Cuban I have had in KC. It is piled high with pork roast and ham with a touch of mustard and some pickles. The bread is thin but sturdy, there just to contain all the yumminess between the slices. So many places allow the bread to overwhelm the fixings on a sandwich, this may be the most perfect building of a sandwich I have encounter. Needless to say, I am a huge stupid fan of the Cuban! The service was a little lacking. I was the first customer. I sat at the bar and the bartender stood at the other end for what felt like an awkward eternity before coming down to get me a drink. I wasn’t given napkins with my meal. After requesting some, the bartender did not rush and finally grabbed some drink napkins for me. When I requested a to go box, the bartender went to get one, but forgot on the way. She returned, did a few things and than acknowledged she forgot. The whiskey selection is good. This is always a plus. Maybe when temps are better, I will return mainly for the food. For now I will frequent places that use air conditioning.

Great bands are playing all the time! If you like Rockabilly, Americana, roots country, Bluegrass, etc then you’re bound to enjoy the music here. Drinks are reasonably priced. Bartenders, as well as the rest of the staff, are all very friendly. Convenient location in downtown Westport. I love this place!

Good crappy, dive feel with good music and cheap beer. Too bad it always sounds like shit in there. The tiny L shaped place is not meant for live bands.

This review is for their Sunday brunch. Get here early… probably stand in line to get a table. It’s worth it! My friends were able to get 4 stools at the back bar. We were waited on by a very nice waitress who kept up with the craziness. The place was packed to the gills. Because of this, the buffet looked like locusts had swarmed. The demand for the food, which was really good, was more than they could keep up with at times. There was fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, some kind of chicken dish, corned beef hash and a fresh salad. As stated, all the items I tried were really good. The buffet has a drink included in the price. They do have a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar. There were plenty of different items to add to your drink too. Yes, it was crowded but I will definitely go back. Not just for the brunch either. I know there are plenty of great bands who play here. A nice plus, the cover price isn’t crazy. It’s definitely another reason to go support our local music scene.

I have only been there for a drink or two, but the first thing that strikes me to return is their amazing selection of whiskey. The female bartender we had was tremendously knowledgeable regarding their selection. Even if you are not a hard alcohol fan, their beer selection is very decent. It seems like a spot for individuals of multiple tastes. Definitely worth a shot.

Awesome atmosphere and a menu that will really surprise you. What used to be the old Dark Horse is now the Saloon. It still has that cozy old feel to it. I have to say though they have one of the best burgers in Kansas City. This is what caught me off guard about this place. I went in to have a beer(selection is mediocre at best) and wound up having a taste bud orgasm with the delicious burgers they serve.

Live music, cinnamon rolls, and horsefeathers served in mason jars. This is HANDSDOWN my new favorite place. Unilocalers, You know how you love a place so much that you kind of want to keep it all to yourself but also want to shout your love from the rooftops? That’s how I feel about Westport Saloon. They have a nice bar up front, and a more saloon-y looking one in the back where the band plans on a small stage. The bartender is quick, friendly, and serves good drinks, which is all I need in a bartender. If you’re not the boozin’ type, maybe you’re into chicken and waffles? Cinnamon rolls? Tacos? They serve all three, and so much more, from Eat Me Gourmet, which is a fabulous-genius-delicious concept that serves food around Westport. I had chicken and waffles to go with my mason-jarred horsefeather, and I was in heaven. I was so happy, in fact, that I wrote a haiku: Chicken and waffles Live music and horsefeathers I love the saloon

It’s funny to think that a concept like a Saloon in Westport didn’t already exist, but Westport Saloon just opened and It’s a pleasant surprise for the area. It’s layout is similar to the previous tenants, but a once rundown bar is a nicely maintained saloon. These guys have live music all the time and the staff is killer. It’s not the cozy date spot, but if you’re looking for an inviting but fun atmosphere, they’ve got it. Of course, this is a Saloon — I’d be amiss in my duties if I didn’t include the fact that these guys have an awesome whiskey selection. I’m pretty happy. No sawdust on the floors, but good.
