The initial trip was alright. I’m new to KC and the office is close to my loft so I figured I’d walk over for my appt. They offered a movie for me to watch which I thought was a nice touch but unnecessary for me. My visit was for a bi-​annual routine cleaning which is completely covered by my dental insurance. As I was leaving I was told I had 5 ‘holes in my teeth’ that needed filled and that the receptionist would take care of scheduling the appointment which would cost an additional $ 240 out of pocket (I was also not shown the ‘Holes’ on my X-​ray. I routinely get my teeth cleaned every 6 months and thought it was strange that my dentist in Roanoke, VA (a very dear friend) had not brought up the issue 6 months prior but I booked the appointment anyway because I take great care of my teeth. I then called my former dentist/​friend who was more than happy to pull my file and review the X-​rays he had taken 6 months prior. He saw nothing of ‘holes in my teeth’ and recommended I get a 2^nd opinion which I did only to find no issues. The Dr. who gave me the 2^nd opinion told me I have some of the healthiest teeth he’s seen. So, I cancelled the next appointment at Dr. Anderson’s office. Not a big deal I figured I’d just move on to another office in 6 months. Today a bill shows up in the mail for $ 50 after «Insurance has paid ‘their’ portion.» I have never left an online review in my life but need people to be aware of these dental crooks downtown. The money is not an issue for me and I will most likely pay the $ 50 just to be done with this office. Apparently Dr. Thigpen decided to work on a tooth that had previously been repaired without my consent or authorization then simply added it to my bill. Very unprofessional. If I can save any Unilocal users from having this experience is truly my only goal. Not everyone has disposable income and a $ 250 or $ 50 unnecessary charge could be the difference in putting a meal on the table for their family. Enjoy your $ 50 steak dinner on me Dr., you’ll be eating ramen noodles and/​or unemployed if Unilocal users take my experience to heart. This is not the only review forum I will be posting my experience. I see based on your other review that others have shared my experience as well. Let me know when you’ve changed your practice and ethics and I’ll stop sharing my experience with the world via social media and the web. You have my number sir.

I lost my dental insurance when I lost my job and so this visit (summer 2012) was through a Living Social purchase a year or a year and a half after my last visit to any dentist beforehand. I liked the paraffin hand dip and the movie selection, but both seemed really unnecessary for a trip to the dentist. They decided I had TEN cavities and would NOT show me my x-​rays. I would believe one or two after a year or a year and a half with no dentist visits, but TEN? Come on. I didn’t get in to get my teeth checked by someone else for over a year and a half after this visit and that dentist found ONE cavity AND showed me my X-​Rays. So, I would say to AVOID this dentist who is just looking to get more money from uninsured people and do work that your teeth (and your wallet) don’t need!

I actually see Dr. Thigpen at this office, so the review will be for him and the rest of the office staff.
I wanted a close, convenient dentist to my office in Rivermarket and my apartment downtown, so I booked an appointment here.
Going to the dentist is never enjoyable, but this office does their best to make it pleasant. They have screens mounted above all the chairs and you can choose from a decent collection of movies and music DVDs to watch during your appointment.
Then they offer you a paraffin wax dip for your hands, to moisten while you’re being worked on.
Before they start working on you, anytime you’ll be there for more than a brief appointment, they vaseline your lips so they don’t crack. After a longer appointment, they wipe your mouth area with a warmed towelette so you don’t have gunk.
AND… they offer laughing gas.
The dentist, Dr. Thigpen, is attentive and detail focused.
I highly recommend them.
I’d give them 4 stars, but I wish the individual chairs were more divided. the office is sort of open-​concept.
