What a great place for lunch! I had the half&half, with a turkey sandwich and salad(the meal includes a drink and gelato) … The sandwich had REAL turkey breast, not paper thin slices of deli meat but thick textured turkey! My friend had the salad with Salmon. –Not that I’ve been seriously hunting, but this is the closest I’ve tasted to the gelato in Italy.

When it comes to sweets, The Sweet Guy knows what he’s doing. The gelato is sinfully decadent(my favorite being Wedding Cake) and the chocolates are beautifully crafted. I stopped in for lunch today and noticed that they expanded their menu, which got me excited, but had me awkwardly standing at the counter trying to decide what I wanted(I can be impossibly indecisive). The girl at the counter was super-nice and patient and never made me feel rushed. Finally made a decision and ordered the Salmon BLT with a side of potato salad. YUM. Their savory offerings are able to stand up to the caliber of their sweets! The salmon was cooked perfectly and was wonderfully juicy. The sandwich was a perfect pile of salmon(a nice thick hunk of salmon), bacon, lettuce and tomato. The potato salad was a pleasant surprise. I was afraid it was going to come out as a mayo-based potato salad that you could find in the HyVee deli section, but it was actually almost more of a vinegar and oil based salad. Not quite a German potato salad, but very good. It was quite savory. There was some spice that I couldn’t put my finger on, but it was tasty! A hint of cardamom perhaps? The potatoes are tossed with red peppers and onions, vinegar and olive oil. I highly suggest choosing this as your side. I promised myself I would be good and skip the gelato, but I felt — for the sake of this review — I had to at least end my meal with something sweet, so I got one innocent chocolate bon bon. :) Among all the delicious choices, I chose the White Chocolate Lavender Honey. I’m not a big fan of lavender, mostly because I don’t enjoy eating soap, but I decided since I had such a tasty lunch, I would put my faith in The Sweet Guy and make the leap. Just like a pro, he caught me. No soap! The smooth creaminess of the white chocolate is a perfect foil for the subtle lavender and honey flavors. I loved every bite. I really appreciated how the chocolate shell melded as one with the center confection. Does that make sense? What I mean is that there was no gap between the shell and the center(unlike what you would find in a Russell Stover chocolate box, if that helps the explanation). The chocolate shell didn’t break apart when you bit into it. It was a perfect litte package of sweetness.

Love the gelato — good thing they have a frequent buyer punch card. We love going here after dinner at Kokoro Maki House. My favorite gelato flavor is cookies and cream, but almost all of them are delicious! And it’s always nice when you’ve become a «familiar face» … or embarrassing, due to how often you enjoy the sweets. Have only had the chocolate once(pink peppercorn rosemary) but it was incredible. EDIT: I’ve recently tried both the caramel sea salt and nutella gelatos. Oh. My. Delicious. If you’re lucky enough to stop by when the former is still there, get it!(It sells out fast!) And the Nutella gelato is like a creamy, frozen Ferrero Rocher.(Hey, maybe they should crumble those on top. Hint, hint. Nudge, nudge.)

Hey, so. The Sweet Guy has moved. Parkville up and died, and I’m guessing he wasn’t interested in going down with the ship. So he rented a new space in Waldo — in a bustling area, sandwiched between Waldo Pizza and Hiles II — and gave it another try. A five for deliciousness. A three for everything else. I popped in while I was home for Thanksgiving and… was not so thrilled. Of course, the sweets and hot drinks are just as scrumptious as before, but sad, sad, Sweet Guy! Your space is far too cavernous for the cozy demands of your cocoa delights! The counters are too far back, the chocolate case seems almost like an afterthought, and despite the inviting soul music over the sound system and a quiet hum of lunch crowd(okay, lunch table) conversation, the place echoes like a cave. And Sweet Guy? Saucy, snarky Sweet Guy? Do not talk shit on your very rich, very supportive customers. Even if your current patrons seem to dislike them as much as you do, that’s bad business. You never know what words are going to get back to people.

I will never go to The Sweet Guy again. The guy that served the chocolates was disgusting. He put a plastic glove on one hand to pick up the chocolates, but then used his unprotected hand to arrange the chocolates in the box. I would not have been so grossed out if he had at least washed his hands first.

First time we went, we had chicken wraps. Not bad, a little heavy on the mayo. Tried the gelatos, –my wife really liked the wedding cake. Went back again for gelato(raspberry is a killer) and chocolates. The chocolates are $ 17 for nine pieces in a cute little box with a ribbon, but… They were not on par with Christopher Elbow’s chocolates, –sorry!

I’ve only had their gelato, but all the flavors I’ve had have been good, and it’s a nice dessert after Waldo Pizza. The storefront is cute… mirrored wall on one side makes the place look roomier than it is, and the tabletops are painted to look like the designs on their chocolates, which is a nice touch. I’d give it another star if the service wasn’t slightly spotty. I’m also wondering if how their chocolates stack up to Christopher Elbow.

Awesome place for gelato. My favorite is the wedding cake. It is also conveniently located right next door to Waldo Pizza. Their chocolates are great, and make great gifts. I got my mom a box of them and she loved it. They have chocolates made with all sorts of liquors. They even have chocolates made out of Guinness!
