Steam Bowl Chinese Restaurant

When I read the other reviews I though… I’ll just pick it it, it’s just down the street. Bad, bad idea!!! Run, don’t walk away from this place! We picked it up, brought it home. Whoever packed our order put the heavies box in top of a bunch of little plastic cups of sauce. They broke and leaked all over the bag and the car. We called just to say it happened and the lady was so rude. She said she didn’t know who did it and then said the lady already left. A simple «I’m sorry» would have worked wonders. We’re done. Our first and last visit. OH and there weren’t any cashews in the Springfield cashew chicken, the friend dumplings were so d they were cold and soggy… You expect take out to be a little soggy but not like this. One dumpling was even missing most of its wrapper. Buh-​bye! They have a beautiful website, though…

Tried to order delivery but when I said I wanted a order for delivery the lady hung up on me. I read similar reviews in the web as well

First experience and it was pretty solid. Crab Rangoon was a bit cold but they delivered to the Westside so no complaints here. General chicken was very good.

I would LOVE to leave 4 or 5 stars on the taste of the food. HOWEVER, the woman on the phone was downright a very rude person! She was so rude that after putting me on hold for 20 minutes when I asked her about the missing Rangoon, she started screaming «You not understand there is tax and another tax and another tax!». Um, I don’t care about your stupid 9% tax, I care about the missing Rangoon from the order.
Again, the food was awesome… but if you can’t treat your customers nicely, you won’t get repeat business and eventually you will lose all your business.

New management for the last 5 years. Food can take a while do to low amount of employees but is very good and fresh. Delivers times varies depending on how many they have.
For some reason the delivery guy has to repair his car quite often. Making deliveries on some days maybe weeks impossible with out a vehicle.

I’ve certainly had worse. I ordered delivery tonight because it was the closest chinese place to my hotel. It arrived about 10 minutes earlier than expected, which was a plus. I ordered General Tso’s Chicken with steamed rice and crab rangoons. The rice was normal, and the crab rangoons were okay. You can tell that they at least try and put effort into them, because there is some seasoning visible in their cream cheese. The entrée was not good at all. The sauce tasted like a heavier bbq sauce than I like, not a typical General Tso sauce. The chicken chunks were smaller than this dish usually has, which I didn’t mind. It was a bit disappointing that they didn’t add broccoli to it like a lot of other restaurants do. It was just the sauce and chicken. Next time I am in town I will probably not order from this restaurant, but I did find this meal hot and filling at the end of a long day.

So my first experience with this place was them saying that they just weren’t delivering that night. No real reason, just didn’t feel like it I guess.
Second experience? Pretty average. Sub-​par Chinese food, but at least they brought it to my door and allowed me to be lazy.
Third experience? Just god awful. I put almost an entire container of food down the garbage disposal, which if you’ve seen my tummy know is something I just don’t do! Just so very bad. Let me explain:
— The food took exactly 90 minutes to arrive. I called after an hour, and even the phone person acknowledged that things were backed up and that was a long time to wait for food. Then I waited another half an hour.
— The crab rangoon were cold. Very, very cold.
— The sesame chicken? It was alright, thus making it the high point of the meal.
— I literally had to spit out my shrimp lo mein. It was so overcooked that everything was mush. Even the shrimp had no texture, having it all cooked away. i could take a chopstick, press it hard into a shrimp and it would just turn into mush. It made me want to gag. So down the drain it went. Just like the chances of me ever again ordering from Steam Bowl.
— And to add insult to injury: I don’t believe I even got a fortune cookie.

So… I’ve had Steam Bowl previously & hated it. It must be under different management. Our entrees last night that we ordered were amazing & filled that craving we were having for Chinese. They also deliver in our area which is a huge plus especially when your only other option for delivery is Pizza Hut (YUCK!).
I ordered the beef lo mein noodles & the portion size was HUGE (enough for 4 – 6 servings) but the noodles were seasoned perfectly! The noodles weren’t the HUGE linguine noodles like you find at a lot of typical chinese restaurants that have been doused in oil with a little bit of soy sauce. My husband ordered the generals chicken & the sauce was sweet and tangy… it was PERFECT! The only thing he didn’t like about his entrée was the rice which I think was basmati rice. Of course we had to also order crab Rangoon & egg rolls. The crab Rangoon could have been seasoned better w/​more shallots or garlic. The egg rolls were DELICIOUS & HUGE… perfect! We definitely will be ordering there again the next time we are craving chinese if we don’t want to leave the comfort of our home.

Decidedly solid and standard Chinese food that delivers downtown.
There are only so many delivery places for downtown and really there’s nothing to complain about here. It’s simple, straightforward and Americanized. Just how I like it.

Love the Steam Bowl — simple yet yummy. The will make whatever your needs are. If you live near, they will deliver

This place has some horrible reviews on the web but I have always been happy with the food. in fact I really like their General Tso’s Chicken (no spicy) and their Sesame Chicken. They deliver AND take credit cards. Its one of the few places left in this neighborhood that delivers. The service is very slow when going to the place but delivery is surprisingly quick.

This friggin place is Legendary.
And it has been in business probably before the Royals were even created.
Steam Bowl is the Mecca of Chinese food for Northeast KC. Food here s always consistently decent and the combination fried rice (with siracha sauce) is soooooo delicious. I’ve never had from the lunch buffet since usually Chinese food’s quality takes a steep hit, but carryout has always been wonderful.
If you live near the area you need to go pay your respects and order a combination fried rice.
