Pete and Mac’s is proud of the way we care for pets. We encourage you to come and tour our state-​of-​the-​art resorts, no appointment necessary. Meet the staff that will provide expert loving care and see where your pets will eat, sleep and play. Highly trained staff on site 24/​7, 365 days a year, never just remotely monitored. Pete and Mac’s continues to lead the pack with no breed or size discrimination. We evaluate your pets on their behavior, not by breed or size.

History

Established in 2005.

We opened our Northland resort in 2005. But we’ve been caring for pets since 1999 and our experience shows. We support pet rescue in our communities at local events, by hosting fund-​raising Yappy Hours and Adoption Days at our resorts and with donation drives for local shelters and rescues.

Nortland is Pete and Mac’s third KC Metro Area resort, and our fourth pet resort nationally. Pete and Mac’s has local veterinarian advisory boards that help establish the vaccination requirements and care and cleaning protocols that keep Pete and Mac’s head and tails above other pet care facilities. However, we do not practice veterinary medicine, we respect the doctor/​patient relationship you establish with your veterinarian and always refer you back to your pet’s doctor. .

Pete and Mac’s has provided dog boarding, cat boarding, dog daycare, dog and cat grooming and obedience training in the Kansas City Metro Area for over 12 years. Pete and Mac’s is NOT a «dog kennel» come for a tour and see!

Everyone was great. Only problem I had was how quick they wanted to take my dog and just get him done. Super nice staff. Only one semi-​negative person was at the front desk once, but nothing too rude or of that sorts. I was allowed to drop off and pay with a credit card number on file when my boyfriend picked up our baby. He was clean and well taken care of.

We had 2 different types of dog groomed (labradoodle and collie) they did a great job on both! They’re both soft, smell good, look good (labradoodle was shaved), got complimentary bandanas to complete their look. Awesome! We will keep coming back for boarding and now grooming

I am in the process of relocating and have kept my cat there for one month now. The people that work there have been excellent to us and our cat. The place is always clean and the cats are kept away from the dogs.
I would highly recommend this facility to anyone that needs to board their dog or cat for any period of time.

I took my dog there for their daycare program for the first time the other day. Online it says 6:30am-7:00pm for daycare hours. This is not true, unless you want to pay extra. When I walked in with my dog, I’m not sure either of the girls checking people in smiled one time. There was no comfort that I was leaving him in a fun place to play for the day. When I asked if I could see the play facility, the lady told me no because it causes too much anxiety for the dogs. I have never left my dog anywhere that I could not tour! BecAuse I had no choice but to leave him there for the day, I did. When I came to pick him up there was a guy who checked us out and he was nicer than the girls, but one of the girls was still at the desk and she looked miserable. The ONLY reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because the girl who is in the back and works with the dogs totally redeemed my feelings. She was very friendly and loved my dog. I guess I just thank goodness that she was placed in the back to watch the dogs and the grouchy girls didn’t interact with them. Not a good first impressing. A lot of work needed there.

Overall, they are friendly here and call my dog by name but I have two issues that are keeping me from going back. One: my dog goes in with the small dogs and they are encouraged to pee inside (not enough outdoor bathroom breaks). This was a big deal because I took my dog over to a friends house that has hardwood floors and she thought because another dog was around she could pee inside. Keep in mind she is 3 yrs old and this has never happened before. I spoke with management and they suggested I talk to their trainer. What? Why don’t you just hire more people so you can take better care of the animals. Helllllo. It’s a no-​brainer to me. Secondly, I went out of town a few days and tried the boarding. If you don’t think 14 hrs overnight is too long for your dog to wait to go the bathroom, maybe this place is fine for you. My dog is spoiled. She never has to go the bathroom indoors or wait more than 4 hrs to go out at a time, since I work from home. This did not work for us. Dr. Sparks vet in Riverside is nothing short of amazing. They are currently renovating and expanding to have daycare services as well as extensive boarding. This will be the only place my dog will go from now on.

Our first time leaving our beloved Bella at Pete & Macs for the weekend. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and the professionalism of the employees. We don’t really know if our pup got the «royal treatment extras» we paid for, but she was all smiles when we picked her up — that’s a good sign! We will be back when needed!

We have been using Pete & Macs for 4 year, but in the last few months their quality of care has noticeably slipped. I don’t know if maybe there mas been a change of management — for sure new faces in the place– but my Lab is NOT happy there anymore. The staff can be rude at times and it’s like they really don’t care anymore. they are very convenient to my home, but I will look for another day care.

I have been taking my Black Lab mix to Pete & Mac’s for about 7 years now and have had nothing but positive experiences with them. They take care of their furry residents and give the customers a peace of mind. I know that when I go out of town my Cassie will be taken care of.

In general, I’m a fan of Pete & Mac’s. The place is very clean and spacious. They have all sorts of little options that allow you to upgrade your pooch’s kennel experience. They range from practical (a bath on their last day) to a little quirky (ice cream treats at bedtime) to just plain bizarre (a DVD movie of your pet’s time away at «camp»). Most of these play to people who are a bit nutty about their pets… but I fall into that category, so it’s all good.
The problem I have with Pete & Mac’s, which forces me to give them only 3 stars, is that I think they’re overpriced. The kenneling rate of $ 30-​$ 45 a day (depending on size of dog and thus kennel) seems practical, until you realize that it doesn’t include much if any daytime playtime! That’s an additional fee! I cannot recall exactly how much if it’s tacked on, but i think it was around another $ 20 a day or so.
I’ve always wondered if the kennel people REALLY leave the dogs locked up all day if their owners don’t want to pay a surcharge to let them play with the other pooches. I couldn’t if i worked there, because it just seems cruel to keep the dog segregated for such long periods of time. But really, I think that falls on the business model, not the pet owners. If I’m paying to have my dog boarded, i think letting them play with the other animals should be thought of as a basic feature, not a luxury.
I’ll go elsewhere.

Being somewhat new to the area, I wasn’t sure who to use for a groomer so I asked a vet. He recommended Pete and Macs. I have taken my Bichon mix there about 4 times now. I have been satisfied with the service but not blown away. The employees have been pleasant. My doggy has been nipped a few times with clippers, so that has been not too thrilling. I had to take him to the vet for a sore he got from that & had to ask Pete and Macs to discount that vet fee. They did it but I was not too happy I had to ask for it.
I have never boarded my dogs there as I prefer indoor/​outdoor runs. I am going to try a groomer closer to my home for convenience; had they done a great job with my pup, I wouldn’t mind making the drive.

We travel a fair amount, so our slightly neurotic dog, Sadie, has stayed at Pete & Mac’s pretty frequently. Before we picked a doggy hotel in KC we really did our research, visited a lot of places, and Pete & Mac’s is the best option we’ve found in the area. Honestly, it’s probably more deserving of a 3 ½ star rating than a 4 star, but since it’s the best we have to work with, I’ll go ahead and give the 4 stars.
The staff are nice, and always greet Sadie by name. After every overnight visit they send home a «report card», and they always have nice things to say about our darling girl.
Sadie doesn’t particularly enjoy being away from her home and the couch, but I feel comfortable about leaving her at Pete & Mac’s, and I know she’s getting good care and plenty of playtime during her visits. The facility is clean, and they offer a lot of little ad-​ons so that Sadie’s stay can be as luxurious as we want to make it.
We always get her a bath/​grooming after her stay, and even though I know she’s not the most pleasant dog to groom, she always comes home looking and smelling nice! We’ve used the groomer without the overnight/​daycare option, too, and have no complaints.
The one real downside is that it’s pretty pricey. We’ve also boarded Sadie up near Chicago, and prices there are much more reasonable than Pete and Mac’s, at a slightly nicer facility. Pete & Mac’s also charge extra if you bring your own food, which I find a bit odd. Not that I’ll stop bringing Sadie’s food along with her, as I don’t want to deal with the mudass that would ensue if we changed food, but I also don’t think I should have to pay extra so that we all avoid the possibility of raging diarrhea.
All in all, though, Sadie seems pretty happy with the place, so we’ll definitely be back the next time we need a doggy hotel!
