Old Mill Grooming

Made an appointment on a friends recommendation, was told at the time that the dog would be done by 1pm. I brought her in around 8 am that day and called when I hadn’t heard anything by 12:30, only to be told that she wouldn’t be done until after 1:10 because the groomer wasn’t told she needed to be done by a certain time — which I would have done if I hadn’t been told that the dog would by finished by one. I didn’t make an ordeal out of the situation, understanding that it was a communication issue, paid & tipped and left with the dog.
After getting home, she was acting upset and obsessing over her feet when I realized she was bleeding and discovered that 3 of her nails had been trimmed considerably too short and bleeding, several others cut jagged or splintered. In 5 years, visiting 10+ groomers over 3 different states this is the first time anyone has cut her nails short enough to bleed. I called and spoke to the person in charge who told me that it if her nails were too long the quick would grow out longer and it must have been due to that, however I had trimmed my dogs nails the week before. She also informed me that the nails may have been affected by my dog running in the snow, which if they were too short may have caused them to bleed. This does not make any sense as cold will help to STOP bleeding, constricting the blood. The woman on the phone did not seem seem bothered what so ever, was unapologetic, offered no sympathy or refund and instead gave me multiple excuses. When I told her that I would never use her services again she responded with a curt,“Sorry.“
I have never experienced such poor pet and customer care before and was so upset for my dog! For a couple of days her nails would start to bleed while she was playing and it was very scary. As a dog owner I am aware that the quick will grow with the nails, however I also know that if the nails are too long you are only supposed to trim in small increments. The nails were NOT too long to begin with, however even if they were as a professional she should have known that she was cutting them too short and THREE bleeding nails is completely ridiculous. Both her manner and her treatment of my dog were unprofessional. I would hate for anyone else to have to experience this with their animal babies!

This place is amazing! The lady who runs it (I should definitely know her name) really does a good job of working with the dogs and making them comfortable. I’ve had my dog for a year and a half and it took me a while to find this groomer, but I couldn’t be happier to call her my groomer. She knows my dog’s personality and troubles she’s had with grooming in the past, and all the interactions I’ve seen between her and the dogs are very positive.
Example: Yesterday my dog got into a ton of burrs. I thought I could work them out. After I got home from work at noon, I sat down to work them out and realized it would take me hours. I called them and they pulled up my dog’s index card (which they use to keep records) and told me to bring her right in, last minute. In the afternoon. On a Friday. Incredible.
Also, my dog had trouble one time with her ears being cut too short and the tips of her ears started bleeding frequently. The groomer had me come back whenever I wanted to clean her ears, and had a good memory about my dog’s ear troubles on all future visits.
Oh yeah, and the price is definitely right. The first time I went here, I had to do a double take when they told me the total cost. Definitely worth it.
Side note: I am not a picky person when it comes to grooming. My philosophy is that the groomer knows best, and my dog is a tomboy who likes to get dirty despite being a pretty breed. I would much rather her be easy to care for and comfortable than try to upkeep a pretty hair cut.

I have come here for 5 years and have always been pleased. I have two Shih tzu’s, so usually get the full service (hair cut, shampoo, conditioner, ears, teeth, nails cut). Both of my dogs are rescues, so they are quite timid. This is the only place that they acted comfortably. By and large I have always been pleased with the service, the results, and the cleanliness of this place. The only thing I would add to the experience is that she spray the pups with that scented spray :-) otherwise — it’s great!
