Nigro’s Western Store

We were there on Christmas Eve. Busy as they were, the staff was attentive and friendly. We have definitely added them to our go-​to list for boots, hats, and anything else western.

Friendly staff. Lots of jeans, boots, hats, and various men’s & women’s western wear. Pretty small store so if it’s not jeans, boots, or a hat that your looking for the selection is slim. But they do have some of everything. They even have a cattle prod if your heifer gets out of line… or just likes that sort of thing;-)

Great customer service. Bought a pair of Justin work boots and they started falling apart within 6 months and I took them back to see if they could be repaired and they gave me a new pair. I’m a plumber and recommeng Nigros to all my co-​workers and friends.

I went in here looking for a specific pair of Justin Gypsy boots, and that mission was a success! Even on sale, yay! But even better? Their amazing selection of cute clothes! Top that off with some friendly customer service, and I’ll definitely be back. :)

Confession. I am a card-​carryin’, swimmin’ hole swimmin’, farm-​raised, barefoot-​dwellin’, gravel-​road traversin’ country girl. I was raised rurally, had a pony, we grew a garden bigger than most urban dwellers’ yards. But I only took the stereotype so far. I don’ t shoot, I never four-​wheel, I don’t own a pickup, and I most assuredly have never worn western wear (even when riding my pony).
That said, I found myself in need of standard country attire of the embroidered, pearl snap variety for some fine arts costuming. Naturally, Nigro’s was the best bet. I cruised down Merriam Lane one Saturday morning and got there when they opened, walked in, was hit by the scent of leather… Jackpot! A HUGE selection of clothing, and totally wearable, at that. No need to be Roy Rogers, this stuff is stylin’. I picked up the lovely light blue plaid button-​up with decorative stitching and shiny snaps that I came for, but also snagged a hottie black laced-​trimmed dress… very modern country… and some sweet silver jewelry with a nice vintage southwest flair.
The staff was so nice and accommodating, spending time to really help me find what I needed in a way that doesn’t happen anymore in the age of chain clothing stores. Prices aren’t discount, by any means, but the merchandise is of quality, and there are some deals to be had. If you are looking to buy boots, be prepared to put down some coin, but they’re really nice boots.
This is a really nice place, it’s got nice KCK flavor, the people who work there are cool, and I just might change up my personal style to shop there more often.

I have a moccasin addiction. It’s quite strange, cause it hits me every once in a while. This is difficult cause Minnetonkas are next to impossible to find in Kansas City. Consider the fact that I was in Albuquerque and everyone wears them there and that was 2 ½ weeks ago. Come home, and I have to call 17 places to find the REAL things.
I called down the list and was pleased when Nigro’s had them. Not in the small size I needed, but they have them, 6 ½. I went there, and the store is amazing. I don’t listen to country music or ever intend to, but you don’t have to be western to like what this store has.
They carry all the boots that are top brand cowboy boots. But they carry clothes, belts and cool leather hand bags and stuff stuff stuff, and… Minnetonka’s. Real Minnetonkas. I had to have the store order the shoe I wanted. This is actually a better deal than ordering them online. I don’t mind waiting, or going back. I ordered the mocs with the brass peace sign. Oh yeah, I saw some look alikes the other day, but I don’t buy things that look like something else. I want the real deal, and this store can get them, or carries them.
The staff were great, but if I had known they didn’t have any 6 ½’s or 7’s, I might not have visited. Glad I did. Pretty cool store.

But hey, if they do, or hell, even if they just want to *look* like cowboys, they need to check out this amazing store.
Easily the best Western store I’ve ever step foot in (to be fair, these have been far and few between, but I know good retail when I see it!)
The Little K had finally worn out his cowboy boots, which seem to never come off his feet. The K figured it was high time he replaced this favorite (and let’s face it, really damn cool) footwear. And so, we drove to Nigros and let me tell you, it’s clear that we’re not exactly the most conventional looking family that just stepped off the ranch, but we were treated like rodeo stars by every employee in the place. This is important to me, as I have to admit, I sometimes feel like a fish out of water ’round these parts and in such authentic stores. I have «city folk» written all over me.
But I do like me some Western cowlture! It’s part of being American, I think. Don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t go to a rodeo if you paid me. And I don’t think I could go near a cow, no less milk one or eat one. And I only love horses from afar, reading of the Black Stallion at a tender age kind of scarred me forever.
Enough confession time; you want to hear about the store, don’t you? Nigros has the largest selection of cowboy boots I’ve ever seen for kids, men and ladies in one place. I am so going back here come fall for my own pair.
The Little K settled on a pair of stylin’ black boots with red threading. How sharp can you get? Like father, like son, of course.
Onto the clothes and accessories: everything you can think of from belt buckle plates to bags to fancy western shirts to plain cotton Western shirts. The ladies section is a bit more varied, with flashy clothes and jewels fit for Miss Dolly Parton herself. And of course that’s the highest compliment!
Did I mention the ridiculously fair prices? It seems like everything is at a discount price.
For you real cowboys and cowgirls there is a ton of stuff for you from horse saddles and bits to uh… well a lot of stuff. Don’t trust me on this one, go check it out for yourself!

I’ve slowly but surely been morphing from a rock’n’roll kind of guy into both a country and western guy. Willie Nelson and David Allen Coe have replaced the Germs and GG Allin. Ripped jeans have been traded in for crisp shrink to fit 501’s, and the patches and pins on my jean jacket have been removed.
Visiting this place was inevitable. I was pleasantly surprised at the genuinely friendly greeting I got when I walked in. The old man, recently deceased I hear, said hello. Then his son, a man my father’s age asked what he could do to help. They meant it too. Their name is on the store front and they are there to help. Cool.
If you’re looking for super cheap cowboy wear, look elsewhere. They may be super nice here, but they are also as my dad would say, a little too proud of their merchandise. They do have a great selection of boots whether you want some work boots, or some bright green ostrich skin boots they have them. Beware though, I went in here one time to just mess around and try on boots, and I got the hard sell from Jr, the third generation Nigro. I used to go to random car dealerships and test drive cars for fun (that’s how I learned to drive a stick) and got the same feeling from the car dealers. These guys are a lot less sleazy than the car dealers I dealt with though.
They sell a great selection of pearl snap cowboy shirts, cowboy cut Wranglers, and yes Levi’s pants and jackets. I got me a sweet belt here for less than $ 20, and if you’re in the mood, they sell saddles, bridles, and all kinds of rodeo gear.
I’ve seen the same «BOOT SALE» sign out front for over five years now, but this place is as much a KC staple as Gates, and Aurthur Bryant’s. So even though there may be cheaper places to get your cowboy on, give these guys a look. The quality of service you’ll get here is bar none.
