Method

The male is the lesser of species when it comes to retail options in KC, (I sometimes think pets have more options) so it always brings me joy when a men’s store/​boutique opens for business. It makes me even more happy when they happen to be in one of the greatest neighborhood in town, the crossroads.
The store is small with some really nice clothing and accessory options. I felt like the store was stronger on the accessory side of things more than the clothes which I don’t have a problem with. The help was friendly and did a good job of not being over bearing in such a small space. It can be awkward or intimidating looking around a small shop if the salesperson seems to be watching you like a hawk or commenting on every item that you take a look at, but I didn’t get that feeling in this store which was really nice.
I want to give Method five stars but something is missing and I don’t know what it is. Seriously, I can’t put my finger on what the store lacks but it just doesn’t scream five stars… yet. I will keep stopping in and supporting this local store waiting for that day when I (or they) figure it out.

Method, Method, Method.
I love you! But you disappoint me! You are NEVER open during the posted hours on your front door. Are they inaccurate? If so, CHANGE THEM! I know you guys have day jobs, but I take you at your word of when you’ll be open. I hate going all the way down to your store and be greeted by a locked door. It forces me to drive even farther to Halls and buy from them instead. You don’t want me doing that, do you?
We can work this out. I trust you’ll make this right and our relationship can go back to being a strong 5 stars.

This is exactly the kind of store I’d been hoping to find downtown. If you are a fashion-​forward guy who’s tired of shopping at the same old places in KC, this will be a welcome addition. There isn’t exactly «something for everyone» at this store, and it doesn’t try to be all things to all people. But for a twenty or thirtysomething guy who isn’t brand-​obsessed and thinks outside the box instead of wearing Polo/​Banana Republic every day, you’ll dig what they add to the mix.
When it comes to clothes in Kansas City, I will shop here and at Hall’s – when there’s a good sale, which is most of the time. This place deserves a look. And yea, the people running the place are good dudes.

A great place with a great concept that really represents the ethos of the Crossroads District. Was the staff friendly? Lets just say I was offered a Miller Light while I looked at a pair of American made pants.

If you’re somewhat of a *dandy,* like my guy, you will adore this store. Does that word scare you? Stand up, boys, taking pride in one’s appearance is nothing to be ashamed about. If you scoff at this and are thinking, «that’s for girls,» I will roll my eyes at you (I’ll probably do that anyway, but that’s besides the point). I swear the whole «let’s make fun of guys who want to look nice» by calling them «metrosexual» or «gay» like either is a bad thing, has something to do with the Puritans. Yes, think of it that way (I love blaming the Puritans for just about everything that is wrong in our society. I call it, «Six degrees of Plymouth Rock.») Nothing wrong with loving to don some fine threads and fine threads are what you’ll find at Method. What’s more, a lot of it is viciously discounted right now.
Although there is a slight lean toward current trends, this is not to any vile degree and the vast majority of everything is rather timeless. Think: urbane instead of merely hipster. Clothes are simple at first glance, but upon closer inspection, you’ll find them to be well made and of good textile and overall pristine quality. I will be honest and say that the unfortunate majority, although from lesser known labels, are manufactured in China. The reason I mention this is not to discourage you from buying them, rather to let management be aware that the consumer is paying attention. Maybe some day factory workers will be treated better, but for now, well, we need to at least be aware of what’s going on. That it’s a rarity to find clothes made with sustainable textiles manufactured in factories with decent conditions for workers does not mean it’s an impossibility. I’m willing to pay more for this.
That said, I do encourage you to support this store, as it’s locally owned and I appreciate their business plan (hello, they have a bar and lounge in there and offer really good specials. Thanksgiving weekend, and perhaps beyond, everything in the store was half off).
In closing, I implore all the fine gents in KC to get dressed up! The great Tim Gunn once brilliantly described the current trend to be «the slobification of America.» Puritans can go suck it and keep dressing in those ridiculous hats and dirty buckled shoes. And I’m telling the rest of you to shop at Method this holiday season for your sharp-​dressed man (and anytime new threads are deemed necessary).

When I walked in, I was astounded by how sparse the place really was. Owner (or guy walking around) was friendly. I get boutiques are small and only carry quality merchandise. This felt like I walked into a guys basement who had laid out an extremely small selection of his new clothes and was asking people to purchase them.
The actual clothes were OK. Better than tribal graphic dress shirt crap too many people wear. Price was OK, but why would I walk over here over here to spend 10 minutes looking at such a small selection of stuff? I don’t have time to waste on this place. It is a weak attempt at a boutique. With the limited stuff they have, you have to guess that this place was created only for the parties. I hope they’ve found some of the few good DJs in town.
I’ll give it another chance (if they’re still open) in a few months.

I made it down here on the recommendation from a friend and location from David. A. I made it in here during non-​peak hours and got a chance to talk with the men behind the counter. Whom happened to be the owners — I suggest you stop in and ask them what their backgrounds consist of, you may be surprised.
The selection is limited, a couple of sizes per design — but that should eliminate seeing some douche wearing the same shirt. I did manage to find some button-​ups from one of my favorites — Jeremy Argyle NYC. These shirts aren’t free, but are made with some fine quality.
This is the type of store you have to stop back every so often as the inventory changes quite often. Booze is available here as is some impressive art. Very eye-​catching artwork. Don’t overlook it.

Cool new shopping destination next to the Czar Bar. Seems like mostly men’s apparel, but also noticed accessories for women. The interior has a really modern and urban feel, something that downtown KC stores were lacking.
The clothing selection is edited well and ranges from casual to business casual. Their clothes are displayed from long metal wires that extend from the ceiling and in front of local artwork. There wasn’t an overwhelming amount of selection, but the stuff they had was fashion-​forward and not something you usually find in Kansas City.
Their informational post card mentions that the space can be rented out for events which might explain the more limited collection of clothing compared to the size of the store.
The staff was helpful without being pushy and really seemed interested in helping me find the right fit and style that worked for me.

If I ever get a sex change, this is totally the place I’d shop. Not that I’m contemplating one. A sex change, that is.
This store caters mainly to males, if you haven’t guessed by now. Trendy clothes for an urban, modern set, rather than a douchey frat set. (Sorry douchey, frat set.) Sadly, the hubbie-​to-​be will only allow him to turn him into a Ken doll so much, so I don’t see us shopping here much. But one can hope…
The clothes are a bit on the pricey side but I don’t find it any different than if you were to shop at a more upscale department store or boutique anywhere else.
The staff is what really makes this boutique worth going to. They are super-​friendly and chill, offering us some adult liquid refreshments while we browse away. They were fun to talk to and I ended up wiling away an hour just shooting the breeze with them, while the hubbie-​to-​be gave me the stink eye trying to move on to the next destination.
5 stars all the way and if I ever have a penis or start cross dressing, this will be one of my first destinations.
