History
Established in 1897.
William C. Kenton founded Kenton Lock Company at 817 Walnut. The business allowed him to put to use the locksmithing trade he learned as a teenager working at Brunner Hardware with his brother, Leon. When he wasn’t locksmithing, William C. repaired and re-covered umbrellas, fixed steel measuring tapes and sharpened reel type lawn mower blades and ice skates.
The name of the company changed to Kenton Brothers Locksmiths in 1905 when Leon Kenton bought half interest in his brother’s company for $ 500. William C. Kenton died in 1924 when his son, Bill, was 5 years old.
In 1945 Bill kenton began managing the company founded by his father. Bill introduced his daughter, Stephanie, to the business in 1962 and his son, Kirk, joined the company in 1965. The ownership of the company was transferred to them in 1988. Stephanie welcomed her daughter, Gina Stueke, into the business in 1992.
