KC Brake and Auto Service

I drove my 2004 Hyundai Sonata all the way from Virginia to Kansas & it is the lone asset I posses, moving to a new state, and taking care of it was very important. Being new to Kansas, I was terribly in need of a true, genuine and affordable mechanic shop and I did a lot of searches and figured out Unilocal was the place to search. KC Brakes came up as the besty place, in my overall search. As the reviews suggest, mechanics at KC Brakes are genuine and honest. I took it for general servicing and alignment. But they suggested that an alignment was not required (saving me money on it, with their honest reviews) and it didn’t cost me more than $ 50 for complete servicing. I am never going anywhere else when I have KC Brakes. Thank you guys, seriously!!!

Okay, I took my Lincoln in for service today. It has 116,000 miles on it and the car was wobbling on the highway. I also felt it needed new brakes. They have never been replaced and we are headed out on a trip. They called back at 9:00 to let me know my brakes had plenty of life left on them and they did not need to be replaced anytime soon.
They also said the wobble was probably tires that needed to be balanced and nothing more. I picked up the car a few hours later. The bill was $ 29! Seriously, only $ 29.
I left my house this morning expecting a bill for about $ 750. It is so nice to find an honest repair shop that is interested in fair business and not looking to take advantage of customers.
These guys are great. This is the second really good experience I have had with them.

One of only a handful of places I trust to work on my vehicles. Close enough to my house that they’ll drop me back at home if necessary, and their work is always excellent. Least expensive front end alignment I’ve ever had done on my ¾ ton 4×4. They just always do a good job on any repair I’ve entrusted them with. Highly recommended.

Five stars, and really this is as good as it gets. We had our oil changed at one of these chain stores. Guess they did not do the usual blah blah point inspection because 1 wk later the temperature gauge was running high and our coolant was at zero.
I saw the reviews of KC Brake and it was not far from work so I called them and dropped it off. Once they got around to it they changed the antifreeze and looked for any leaks. The good news (knock on wood) is that there did not seem to be a leak. The even better news is that they did not change anything. I know said chain store would have charged for a diagnostic check and for replacing the antifreeze.
You guys have just earned another loyal customer. My wife and I will be using you guys for our auto repair needs!

You never really know what to expect when you have your tow company drop your car off at a place you’ve never used before. The mechanics were polite and helpful. They called with follow up questions and got the job done. Price was extremely fair and what I thought was a great value. I will definitely be using them again and will recommend them to my friends.

Highly recommend this place! They are always fair in price and get the work done in a reasonable amount of time. I trust them with my vehicle, which I think is a high compliment.
The people who work there are very nice, too. I’ve had bad experiences with auto shops treating me as though I’m completely ignorant and trying to rip me off but I have never had anything like that happen at KC Brake.
One thing I will note: they don’t really do appointments and it is often a first come, first serve situation, so it’s best to drop your car off right when they open.

KC Brake saved the day! I needed a quick inspection for the dmv on a day I took off from work– they squeezed me in and were very polite. Dave was great and I will likely be back for other service needs in the future!

Fast Friendly and most of all no charge, unlike Calverts! Best in downtown. I will be going here for all of my auto needs!

I love this joint for my automobile repairing needs. They’ve always been very, very fair in the prices, estimates, and time to get the work done. Plus, it’s a totally old-​school «city garage» that feels way more fun to give my money to than a bigger chain establishment. They’ve always been very cool to deal with, regardless of major work or a quick inspection.
Ultimately, his place feels most like a «take it down to these guys» reference when people ask me about where to get car service done. So, take it down to these guys. Mr. Nemeth recommends them.

These guys are awesome! ! Very honest, great work at honest and reasonable prices. I came in for idling issues another company claimed they didn’t have while testing my vehicle.. turns out some major issues could have costed me my engine. They gave a very detailed explanation of what was wrong and what needed to be done. I highly recommend these guys because of their great customer service, quality of work, time management and reasonable prices.

Couldn’t be happier with the brake service I got. We were traveling in KC when a front brakes began rubbing. We found this place near the interstate, clean shop, friendly service, fair price and fast to get us back on the road.

Wow. These guys are amazing. First of all, they did a fabulous job with my vehicle. My tire blew, and I slammed into the curb. My control arm and all of that broke. They quoted me a worse case scenario, and when the time came to pick up my car, it was only ½ that!!! I felt like they were honest, because they showed us the damaged parts and only fixed what was needed but had quote ready for when we can fix the rest.
The owner Dave talked to me while I was crying outside of work, gave me the number to a tow company they use, and promised we would get this taken care of. He also kept reminding me, it’s just a car. Dave also stayed late in order for us to pick up the car before I went to work tonight. I couldn’t be more grateful.
Bottom line: go here for your car needs, you won’t be disappointed with the service.

They also seem very fair and it is a clean shop! I hate dirty garages and this place was rather nice. And, I wasn’t bombed with oil, rubber, grease smell. Props for that guys!

Wow. These guys are honest. I took my car in this morning because the steering wheel was pulling to one side. I figured I would be looking at an alignment or another repair, but they called me a few hours later to say that my tires were low on air, which had been causing the problem. They could have easily charged me for unnecessary repairs, but they didn’t. They are my new go-​to garage.

When I was in a pickle t hey helped out. Quick friendly and very honest. They got the job done fast and was able to get on the road in no time.

If you want good, honest service go to «KC Brake and Auto Service» — they ROCK. I’m not even going to mention the name of Shop «A».

Let me start by saying that despite my 2 star «Meh, I’ve experienced better» rating compared to the average 5 star ratings, this is NOT a bad review. It’s just honest. Long and honest.
KC Brake and Auto Service is not a bad service repair shop; the problem is that after reading all of the previous Unilocal reviews, I went in with the impression that they were an AWEWSOME service repair shop.
You see, I just moved to Kansas City fairly recently and use Unilocal reviews pretty steadily to navigate my way around KC service providers. When I needed an oil change, and saw the stellar reviews about KC Brake and Auto Service, I thought I was set. Looking back, shame on me for not looking at the other reviews more closely. I’m not saying the two glowing reviews from 2013 are fake or planted, but it does seem kind of suspicious that one of them only has that one review, and the other has only one other review – published on the same day.
But I digress. Maybe they are real and maybe KC Brake and Auto Service was just having an off day. Here’s how my experience went down:
–Called ahead to make sure I didn’t need to make an appointment since they are smaller shop than say, a Jiffy Lube or something like that. The man on the phone said I could just drop my car off at any time and they would give me a ride back to work. «Sweet», I thought. This is what I had read in the reviews. I asked him if they were busy, and he said no, so I decided I would drop my car off right away.
–Drove over a few minutes later at 10:30. Upon the drive over, I realized it was very close to my work, (within walking distance) but decided I still might take them up on their offer to drive me back to work since it looked like it was about to downpour at anytime.
–Upon arrival, I parked my car in the middle row behind two other parked cars. In the «stall» to my right there were about three other parked cars, and two men were working under the hood of one of them. I got out of the car, locked it, and looked around for someone that was working the service desk. The two men looked up, but never came over to me so I figured that there was someone in the back in the office to take care of me. I walked into the garage – right past the guys under the hood – but found no one in the office. I waited around for an awkward two or so minutes before finally going over to the servicemen under the hood and asked if one of them could help me.
–After I walked over and approached the two men, one of them stopped what he was doing to «check my car in» for the oil change. I gave him my name, make and model of car, and keys. He told me they were pretty busy and it would probably «be awhile» and that they’d call me later when it was done… or to call them if they didn’t. (Remember how the guy I talked to about ten minutes earlier on the phone said they weren’t busy?)
–There was no offer to give me a ride home, and I didn’t ask for one because a) it wasn’t raining yet and b) I felt like I was already putting this guy out by asking him check my car in for the oil change.
–At 1:30 I called to check on the status of my car, since the guy at the service center said to «call them if they didn’t call me.» I was told apologetically that another car needed brake work and they hadn’t gotten to mine yet. He did say that it would be done by 3, though.
–3pm rolls around and no phone call. I had a meeting at work at 3, so I called after my meeting at 4 and found out the car was finished. No offer to pick me up from work to come get my car, but again, I didn’t ask for one because it wasn’t raining.
–4:15pm (almost 6 hours from the time I dropped off my car) I pick up my car. Dave (I think it was Dave?) explained they had problems finding the right filter for my car. He may have just been trying to explain why it took so long, but it seemed a little unprofessional to me to complain that he had to try several different places to find the filter – especially for a place that promotes they work on «foreign» cars on their website. All in all, it was $ 65 for the synthetic oil change service. Not outrageous, but again, from all the glowing reviews about how cheap everything is, I thought it would be cheaper. I did have a 10% off discount that I found on their website, so all in all I paid about $ 59.
In summary, KC Brake and Auto Service is not a bad shop by any means, but in my experience I found them to be very average, if not a little below average based on the lack of customer service during my car drop-​off experience. Whenever I need my next oil change I will probably look for a do-​it-​while-​you-​wait place because I didn’t like not having a car for most of the day.

This place is amazing. I’ve been going for a couple of years and hope I can find a place just as honest, friendly and helpful for car repairs when I move. They are also fast. They have helped me make sure I get the most out of my current car.
Prices are very fair, which kept me as a loyal fan and prompted me to tell everyone I knew. Please keep doing what you’re doing and THANK YOU!

I would never take my car anywhere else. This place is cheap, fast and honest. What more can you ask for from a repair shop? I’ve referred a bundle of people to this place and they have nothing but great things to say too. This really is the best mechanic I’ve ever been to.

I first came to KC Brake about 3 years ago when I needed a front end alignment and discovered that the repair shop I had been using before had gone out of business. It had been recommended by a friend who swore by it, he in turn had found the place on recommendation of another friend.
When I returned to pick up my car at the end of the day, I was amazed by the low price!
This is now the only place I take my car, whether for the mundane like inspections or oil changes or for more major issues. (Yes, they do more than just brakes.) I’m always impressed by the speed, quality, and price.
Most of my repairs have been done the same day, even when I haven’t had an appointment. As for price, well, here’s a good example — this past winter I hit a chunk of ice with my car that tore off my front bumper. I dropped my car off in the morning. When I returned that afternoon I found a repair job done so well that I can barely tell anything was ever wrong, and a bill that was less than fifty dollars! (And that even included an oil change!)
These guys do the work because they love doing it. They aren’t out to make a fast buck. You’ll be charged for the parts and what’s fair for the time, and nothing more. This is a great place to get your car serviced.
Hmmm… maybe I shouldn’t have said anything. Because now that you all know about this place, it will get busier and next time I might not get my car fixed quite so fast! :)
