The Joshua Center for Neurological Disorders is a vital resource for both children and adults who are affected by Asperger Syndrome, Tourette Syndrome, High-functioning Autism, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar, Pervasive Developmental Disorder and other associated neurological disorders.
History
Established in 1996.
The Joshua Center for Neurological Disorders is a non-profit organization that has been in operation since 1996. The concept of the Joshua Center grew from the humble roots of twenty years of service — from the deep desire of two mothers who wanted to provide support to families to lessen the burden of day-to-day life with Tourette Syndrome. Today, the Joshua Center has provided invaluable assistance to thousands of families.
Meet the Business Owner
Becky O.
Business Owner
In 1992, Becky quit teaching so that she could spend more time helping these kids. Jack Southwick, M.S.W., became involved with the local chapter after Becky sought his help with Josh. He soon became the expert on Tourette. With the support of Jack and several other parents, Becky decided more needed to be done so on November 5, 1996, the Joshua Child and Development Center was developed. It is named after Becky’s son, Josh Oliver. The name was changed in 2007 to Joshua Center for Neurological Disorders to reflect the disorders they now saw.
Becky designed a camp for the kids at Rotary Youth Camp in Lee’s Summit, MO. There are at least 120 campers who attend the two resident camp programs. Camp continues to be one of the most successful programs we have developed.
Each day the Joshua Center receives numerous calls from schools, medical professionals, and parents of children who have recently received a diagnosis or are in need of an evaluation.
