I have been a regular at Heirloom since it opened. My usual is the zucchini muffin and a latte. The lighting in this neighborhood bakery is bright and warm. I love the dainty and grandmaesque wallpaper in the main room. I typically grab the molasses raisin bread for breakfast at home.

Wow! I have been here 3 – 4 times because I love the food, atmosphere and service. I love the cookies as well as the breakfast sandwich, which I always order. the customer service has been nothing but cheerful positive and energetic! Great way to start the morning, I highly recommend it.

This place is well decorated with great vibes and even greater food. Their bakery selections are unique(i.e. Chocolate raspberry poptart with hazelnut icing, Rosemary shortbread cookies, etc.).if you’re not in the mood for bakery items, they have a breakfast menu and bread by the slice. They use Shatto milk(support local!) and I can tell the really care about the quality of their ingredients. So happy I happened to drive by today!

Homemade pop tarts are fantastic! Very cozy, farm house feel. Friendly staff. Menu looks amazing, but only had time for coffee and sweet treat.

I love this place! Since moving to the area a couple of months ago I’ve been almost once a week. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried. First, the biscuit breakfast sandwiches are delicious. The cheddar chive biscuits are very flavorful and they will definitely fill you up. When they have their biscuits and gravy special do not hesitate. Just order it. You can thank me later. I’m not even a big biscuits and gravy fan, but I love theirs. I have also enjoyed every baked good I’ve tried. The homemade pop tarts are a must try. The pastry is flakey and the inside is gooey and perfectly sweet. If you are looking for a treat after a long day I also recommend the oatmeal cream pies. They are probably big enough for most people to split, but I like them so much that I’m not likely to share. Most of the time I just get my food to go, but there are a couple things to know if you decide to sit down and eat there. First, all of the employees I have interacted with there have been polite and helpful. They are always patient with me when I’m being indecisive about which goodie to order. It is a bit of a no frills dinning experience. Some things they will bring out to you but others you have to pick up at the counter(like coffee) when they call your name. They also ask you to bus your table when you are done. The décor is adorable and I don’t really mind these minor inconveniences when I do choose to eat there. They are very busy on weekends and they do run out of some things later in the day so I recommend going early if there is something specific you are after.

I enjoy their delicious goodies so much, I also enjoy sitting in their beautifully decorated area in which plays all kind of different music. The whole ambiance attracts me. I try not to go every day, but it is hard… Great food, nice staff, owners are friendly and professional. Thank you for opening such a gem in KC!

Heirloom has all the potential in the world to become my go-to spot: It’s close to home, adorable, and delicious. You walk in the front door and are greeted with tray upon tray of pastries. The breakfast sandwich I got was so tasty and the coffee is from Thou Mayest, one of my favorite coffee shops. But… My goodness gracious, they are EXPENSIVE. A breakfast sandwich and plain black coffee cost me over $ 10…it was $ 10.30 give or take a few pennies. They also have a $ 1 honor system for refills on black coffee. I passed on a refill because after tip, I had already shelled out about $ 11… and you have to bus your own table. I really, really want to become a regular here. But only if they lower their prices.

Loved the busy atmosphere as well as the customer service and obviously the pastries were amazing! The $ 4 poptart was worth every dollar. I am just sad I waited so long to visit this gem because now it will become an early morning weekend staple. Just gotta make it out of bed before all the delicious carbs sell out!

Not impressed with the experience. First, this is a fast casual concept. So why do they pressure its customers to tip on their ipad screens? For what service? Then they have the gall to put little signs on the table to pressure you to bus your own table!!!(after you have tipped for service) wow!!! never seen that before and on top of charging their super high prices, they pressure you into paying for coffee refills on a «honor system» wow. they just don’t get it. at these prices, their food better be outta sight and it just was not. i just refuse to do this place again.

Bought a loaf of pesto bread and two cream cheese brownies. Everything was really good, the brownies were great, even. But my total on those three items was $ 17. Steep. Not a bad place for an occasional splurge, maybe once a month. McLains Bakery just down the road is superior in every way, in my opinion.

I was at Thou Mayest Coffee a couple of days ago and inadvertently ordered a strawberry pop tart that came from Heirloom Bakery. It was plain strawberry and the pastry to filling ratio was off. It was also ridiculously priced. French Bee has flavors like apricot-rosemary, strawberry-rhubarb, and lemon-blueberry that are delicious. This place continues to disappoint even when I’m nowhere near it.

Heirloom Bakery came highly recommended from a friend who knows her way around the KC food scene(which I sadly do not know so great anymore, sob), so I knew it had to be a stop on my recent whirlwind trip back in town. Parking is a disaster if you’re looking for a spot in the lot, but how lucky are the people(aka, my bestie and my *real* bestie, her 10 month daughter) who live close and can mosey on down the street for an amazing array of coffee drinks and pastry?! We showed up around 9:00 the morning of Saturday of the Plaza Art Fair, and the place was PACKED. However… there was plenty of seating around the space and on the patio outside. We snagged a long booth/table combo(enough room for the 6 of us) and took turns in line. The thing about the long line is, it moves fast because the people working there are hustling! They were on point! The baked goods looked GLORIOUS. Scones, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, other various sweet rolls, etc. etc. etc. I drooled, and then I spied the quiche of the day and my mind was completely made up. Heirloom keeps their quiche warm in the oven, not room-temp like some other bakeries I’ve been to. My piece had red peppers, tomato and white cheddar and it was SO. GOOD. The filling was so flavorful and the crust was aces. Paired with a cold brew in a cute mason jar and I was in love. My next trip(and oh yes, there will be next traps) will involve the build-your-own breakfast sammie. Heirloom was the perfect way to spend an early-fall morning with some of my favorite gals. Hooray!

Great bakery, coffee shop and concept. Love the atmosphere and being able to see the whole kitchen and everything being prepared. Every sweet is unique and flavors I wouldn’t usually think to put together, but they do not disappoint. They are all so good. The breakfast sandwiches are yummy and savory. This place is a gem!

After trying their bread one day close to closing time, my Grandma and I decided to stop in and give their lunch a try. I ordered the BLT on Challah bread, and she had a cup of Curry Lentil soup, with a coffee and an iced tea. The tea was eh, wish they put out lemons for it, Gma enjoyed the coffee though. Gma said the soup was good but personally I haven’t found a curry flavored anything that I like so I’ll stay off this one… The BLT was ok, they loaded it with chewy not crispy bacon, but they did give you tons of tomatoes on it which I really enjoyed. Overall and ok meal for a $ 10 Blt.

I had been visiting Heirloom Bakery at the Brookside Farmer’s Market for about year before their storefront opened. I was anxiously awaiting their opening date and I was one of the awesome(or maybe dumb) ones who waited in about a 45 minute wait on opening day to get my hands on some yummy baked goods. I’ve been about 5 times over the past 3 months and I can say I loved everything except the chicken salad sandwich. That was probably the worst chicken salad sandwich I’ve ever had. There was chopped red bell pepper and the flavor was incredibly lacking. I know some people complain about the price, but I say you get what you pay for. Yes it’s more expensive, but they use so many local ingredients. I can’t wait to order some pies for the holidays to share with my family in New Mexico!

I would echo a lot of the reviews found on Unilocal so far about this place. Heirloom has some real strengths, but a few weaknesses that prevent it from getting a higher rating imo. I think as a neighborhood spot, you would love it(and being in the area I gave it a little higher rating), if you are making a special trip over to try out the place, I don’t think it’s worth the drive. First, living in the neighborhood I think you would be excited to have a place like this in your neighborhood. The restaurant alone has a nice modern feel, open setting where you can observe some of the action going on behind the counter. It’s a order at the counter, pick up your own food sort of place. They went for a retro look with their water glasses which are exceedingly small along with having water dispensing fountains that make you wait a while before you get your water. Also, looks like a great place to meet for coffee and have a pastry on a weekday or weekend. My group got a mix of sandwiches and soups for lunch which were solid all around. They are a little on the pricier side, about 15 bucks per sandwich. The bread which is what is one of their emphasis is, is absolutely excellent. Having bread like that makes the sliced loaf at the grocery store tough to go back too. So on that front, I think they are doing exceptional. We got some cinnamon roles to take home, which for the price were perhaps not worth it. They seemed a bit on the«doughy» side. They are likely better if fresh day the day of. The other pastries looked delicious as well. The other thing to keep in mind at the time of this review, is that this is a brand new restaurant, so I think they are still improving as an establishment. I look forward to checking them out in the future, and seeing what they have to offer then.

Pretty stellar. All their baked goods are superb. Their build your own biscuit sandwiches are a great start to the day. I love that the space is so open and you can see into the bakery area. As a bakery I would give it 5 stars. I only gave it 4 stars because their coffee isn’t quite 5 star coffee.

Underwhelming. Nothing was really fantastic on our visit here– and at $ 43(!) for just 3 sandwiches &3 baked goods, I feel like things should have been amazing. Nobody greeted us when we came inside, despite there being at least half a dozen workers in view. It’s unclear where to stand to place your order. Are there separate lines? Do you go to the register or the bakery case? Some signage would really help. When I ordered, it was absolutely pitiful how almost everything was sold out when I inquired about it– we got there about 90 minutes before close. I see other reviewers have mentioned this too. It’s very frustrating and this place has been open for long enough now that you’d think they’d know how much of certain items to order. If they’re not going to change their ordering system, then a sign saying something like ‘we tend to sell out of lots of our items’ or similar would really help. Especially when you’re standing there reading the menu and you get up to the counter and are continually denied what you order. Finally, I just asked the woman working the register to tell me what they DID have, because that might be easier than playing the other game. She laughed. I found that an odd response. I think an apology should’ve been in order. I ordered our food and waters and she said ‘we’ll have water out for you.’ I thought that meant that they’d bring us water, but I realized it meant they had a communal water area with glasses on trays that we could help ourselves to. Except when I went to get it, they were out of glasses. And napkins. The glasses finally did appear & they were barely bigger than a Dixie cup. It’s July in Kansas City. It’s hot and humid– we need bigger glasses. After not being wowed by the service or selection, I was excited to try the food. Sadly, it followed the same pattern. Just like the layout and design of the place– they were good ideas, but not executed well. My chicken salad sandwich had so much onion on it that it was inedible, and my chocolate chip cookie was just ‘off,’ like they’d used the incorrect amounts of ingredients. The raisin bread it was on was delicious though, so I just ate that by itself. My husband genuinely liked his HLT(hummus instead of bacon. Luckily he loves hummus, because no surprise here– they were out of bacon,) but his key lime cookie was more like a cake, and it had no discernible lime flavor. My daughter’s grilled cheese was totally devoid of flavor, and the cheese wasn’t even totally melted. C’mon people– it’s in the name– ‘grilled’ cheese! She loved her little mini key lime pie– I do like that they sell slices of pie & mini pies, and all the flavors look amazing, but of course we got key lime because that’s the only one that hadn’t sold out of yet. I really wanted to love this place, but I’m just not interested in paying ridiculous prices for un-flavorful food(that wasn’t even the food I really wanted but ordered because so much was sold out) served by people with zero customer service skills. As we were leaving, I asked for a bag to put my husband’s leftovers in. ‘We have large bags, but nothing the size you’re looking for,’ the employee responded. Really?! Don’t other people take home leftovers or get to-go orders?! There’s a Party Warehouse down the street– maybe go down there and grab some cheap gift bags & save them for your customers.

Overall: This is a nice place, In a. Nice neighborhood, in a nice area of Kansas City. It’s not worth a drive, it’s not worth going out of your way, it’s not worth the money I spent there… To me. You may love it. I gave it a 3 because it’s worth trying, and for some this place will be a cool spot, for others it will be frustratingly millennial at its core. First of all, this isn’t a 5 star review because the service and food. If all they sold was baked goods, and biscuit sandwiches this would be a 5 star review. The coffee is from thou mayest, and I get my morning cup there usually and the coffee does NOT taste this bitter or burnt there. They are doing a dis service to thou mayest in my opinion. And asking $ 1 for a refill of a 10oz ceramic mug is flat out insulting. Baked goods — scones, pastries, pop tarts, all worth every penny. Fantastic scones, I have had the pop tarts, and I would totally trust the rest of the pastries. Pies — did not have based on reviews Cinnamon rolls — saw them, but I’m close enough that if I want a cinnamon roll I’m going to dolce. Quiche — if it was hot it might have been good. They forgot my quiche order, so I waited at the front and a nice guy asked what I needed. He was good enough and working very hard busing tables and keeping the customers happy that we’re missing food or cold food. Atmosphere — the layout is just horrible thought out. If you remove the registers, sure the layout is ok, but there is just chaos. Part of this I blame on the consumers that order, than stand there waiting instead of sitting down or going outside. This makes the front a congested mess. The bar area is a good idea, but again it’s counter to the flow of walking and register/order area. The seating area is nice„ outside is fine. The building is pretty cool.

Cute place, always bustling with neighborhood folks. Homemade pop tarts are great, but they are usually out of them. Long lines are fine, but please have menus to hand out or post your menu facing outward toward the line(s) — hung above cashier or something. The service is… interesting. Not much patience for questions, which is hard when you can’t look at a menu until you’re at register. I suggest looking online at a menu before you go. I have been twice, grilled cheese was not melted, but was tasty. Chicken salad was good. I look forward to trying some more baked goods.
