I’m only in town for a few months and needed a trim before leaving. After a Unilocal search, I came across this place. I should have known what to expect after calling and there being several openings that same day. The location and salon itself is nice, but my issue was with the service. All 3 stylists that were there were smoking on the porch when I arrived, which made the whole experience of having my hair washed extremely unpleasant. Also, all they did the entire time was try and up-​sell me CONSTANTLY on products and services. It was annoying and frustrating to deal with when all I wanted was a nice hair cut and nothing else. The haircut itself was decent, but definitely not something I loved or would brag about. Would not recommend.

I was in search of a new salon. They needed to be good stylists, knowledgable, know color and listen to my needs. Vern surpassed my expectations. I had such bad luck since moving back but he was amazing! I will be back and hope others will love them as much as I did!

This salon is wonderful. I see Val and she knows exactly what to do with my hair. I receive more compliments on my hairstyle than ever before! I am so glad I was referred here! If you are looking for a new place to go make sure you call and schedule with Val!

After losing my guy of 10+ years, I had to find a new hair stylist. Went online and created myself a matrix. Vern won, so decided to go see him. Change is usually good but not when it comes to an hairstylist, I thought. He welcomed me and asked bunch of questions before he started. First visit ended with a great style that made me think maybe he lucked out. How was he able to make me go, «He is the shit!»? I decided to go back for the second time and he did it again. Of course, I’m going to go see him for the third time and beyond until he moves out of town too.

If you love unicorns, feathers, and leather jumpsuits, you’ll love getting your hurr did by Vern. He’s adorable, talented, and I wouldn’t trust my hairs with anyone else… Except maybe Enrique Iglesias. Meow!

Hair Style is my go to place for great color, cuts & facial waxes. Regularly I can get services with little to no waiting time but they happily confirm scheduled appointments. Regardless which stylist I visit I know they will listen to my needs and take awesome care of me. Love that Maddie brings me a cup of coffee and the latest issue of W. I always feel beautiful after a visit to Hair Style! Thanks!

I’ve been seeing Maddie for 4 or 5 years now (even before she came to Hair Style) and couldn’t be happier with my experiences with her. I am extremely picky about my bangs and how I I want my hair to frame my face and she does a wonderful job at putting up with my «issues» and always gives me a cut that is current and flattering, and even attracts the compliments of complete strangers (which is always a happy surprise). GO VISIT HER. You won’t be disappointed.

Great staff, comfortable and cute atmosphere, fair prices and good selection of product. Everyone is very good, but I think Maddie is exceptionally artful, creative, attentive and talented. The woman that works the front desk is also very nice, very warm and welcoming. Best place to get beautiful in KC!

I typically think reviews should be given on the overall experience. But I find myself drawn towards starting first and foremost with my stylist. Yes, I said «MY». Because as of today, I’m keeping him. VERN… I appreciate your professionalism, your skill and great persona. Vern has years of quality experience and a knack for «hearing» exactly what you want in a haircut/​style.
The shop itself is adorable and tasteful. Located in a charming vintage house in the State Line antique shops district… It has urban flair with the comfort of a good friends home.
I love the care and attention given by the reception staff also. I was given a nifty gift bag to welcome me… which included a free bottle of shampoo! Not sure If that was a special… or a regular practice. It was such a nice way for them to say «welcome.». A week after my appointment I received a follow up note card to reinerate the sentiment.
My overall opinion… Great prices, better service, handy location, a solid and safe bet for hair that shows you care. And of course… Another plug for VERN… humble superstar.

I love Hair Style and wanted to give a shout out. I’ve been going there for years and everyone is AWESOME. I’ve never had a bad cut or color — EVER. I’ve been with Brandi for a few years now and she is fantastic. All the personnel are very friendly and give you the royal treatment.

I adore Hairstyle! I have been a patron of this business for almost 10 years, and they are the only stylists that I trust with my hair. I have had many stylists at Hairstyle over the years and I am always pleased with their work. My hair looks stunning when I leave the salon, and the styles grow out nicely between cuts. As another reviewer pointed out, the stylists take the time to get to know you and find out the best cut for your lifestyle. Hair Style is an adorable salon nestled in the midst of an active residential neighborhood, sprinkled with local businesses. The salon is in a HOUSE, which somehow makes it that much more charming to me.
The customer experience when making an appointment at Hair Style exceptional from the first point of contact via phone to the very moment you walk out the door cheerfully sporting your beautiful new «do».
The staff is helpful and friendly. There is nothing pretentious or stuffy about this place. (which gets tons of points from me). I personally will rave on & on about Sara Teasley — master artist & stylist extraordinaire. But based on my own observations, & repeated interactions with the rest of the staff at Hair Style, I would feel confident recommending anyone at the salon. It is just a good place. The people there truly seem to CARE about the client, & that shows.
I have been to all types of salons, including those with the extra fancy everything, where I even feel like I am being judged by the staff, the other clients, and expected to maintain a certain status or income level, or attire when coming in for a hair cut. No thanks. That is why finding Hair Style was such a breath of fresh air. I have many good things to say about plenty of salons. But the authenticity and comfortable feeling I get at Hair Style is something that isn’t easy to replicate.
The prices are reasonable, they run good sales on products, and the salon is great with follow up & promotions. (Kudos to Julie on the social media aspect of this).
If you are in the 39^th Street area, and thinking of trying a new place for a hair cut, stop in Hair Style — see what I am talking about. And then, if you are so inclined, make an appointment.

I just got my hair cut by Vern at Hair Style. The place was quaint with a nice eclectic mix of modern clean space yet using antique stations. I really liked it. Vern is the first stylist to engage me in a conversation about my hair that went beyond so what are we doing today? He actually asked me how much time I spend on it, what products I currently use and how I style my hair on a daily basis.
I’m not sure if it’s because it’s between holidays but I felt like I had my own private salon with all this attention being paid to me. Anyone knowing my personality probably can relate to why this was a good thing.
I’m very pleased and would recommend Vern to anyone. He took a great deal of time and paid very close attention to everything he did.

I go to Vern there and he always does an amazing job. I come out looking way better than when I went in. My hair is pretty thick and unruly at times, but I’ve been doing pretty well on the Pureology shampoo.
