Specialties
In addition to SAAB, George’s Imports Ltd offers complete service for all makes and models of vehicles. For years, many of our friends have known that we are the place for exotics, classics and specialty vehicles. A stroll through the back bays will often be a virtual «car show» of Rolls-Royce, Ferrari and classic BMW vehicles. While automotive service evolves with the world of high technology, many service departments depend on technicians who simply replace defective parts. At George’s Imports Ltd technicians are not only highly skilled and trained, but they still embrace the history of the mechanic who can repair problems.
History
Established in 1976.
It was 1956 when Brad’s father, George Schaffner, opened his auto repair center in a Quonset hut. A year later, eight year old Brad, was honing cylinders in his father’s garage. During the mid 1960’s, as they became experts in European automobiles, George’s Foreign Car Service moved to Prospect Avenue and became Kansas City’s Authorized Citroen Dealer.
When Brad returned from military service in 1973 to work with his father, Citroen stopped importing vehicles to the United States. Citroen owners across the country were not abandoned as George’s continued to service these unique vehicles from France.
In 1976, Saab awarded Georges Import Ltd the exclusive dealership for Kansas City. By 1988 when George Schaffner passed away from Leukemia, Brad had earned a worldwide reputation for service including top place in Saab’s prestigious Master Technician Competition.

Business Owner
It’s now been 15 years since George’s Imports ltd moved to the former Roach Cadillac facility at 8011 State Line Road. The uniquely family operated business has continued with a worldwide reputation for fair, honest and competent sales and service.
Once again Kansas City’s own George’s Imports ltd has outlasted the manufacturer. Headquartered in Trollhättan Sweden, SAAB entered into a joint venture with General Motors in 1990, which resulted in GM owning a controlling majority a few years later. With the recent bankruptcy of General Motors, several companies including Pontiac, Hummer, and Saturn have been dissolved. Yet SAAB was unique. Engineering and design talents were too valuable to just abandon, as suitors lined up to buy SAAB.
