The Fishtank is Kansas City’s Première artist venue and black box theatre located in the heart of the Crossroads District.

The Fishtank Performance Studio develops works from concept to concert by providing a low risk, low cost environment that nurtures the development of new work and inspires theatrical entrepreneurship.

Veteran KC actress and Fishtank owner/​operator, Heidi Van, curates-​creates-​and collaborates with actors, singers, artists, dancers, playwrights, clowns and all in between.

The Fishtank is the proud home to some of this season’s most popular work: White Nose Christmas, Thrill Me; The Leopold and Leob Story, and Prop 8 on Trial.

Heidi Van, Actor/​Creator

Co-​Founder/​Curator of Fishtank Performance Studio, Producing Artistic Director of Hybrid: a theatre collective,

dubbed The Queen of Dead Art Forms by Alan Schuerstel is best known for performing and creating pieces in the red nose clown style. Van is a 2010 recipient of the Mastermind Award, a Charlotte Street Outstanding Generative Performing Artist Finalist and an KC Arts Fund Inspiration Grant recipient. Van’s most widely produced original clown play is The Coppelia Project: a clown ballet in three acts that debuted at the 2008 Kansas City Fringe Festival.
