Em Chamas

I must start off by saying that I am a faithful Fogo de Chao patron. My best friend and I frequent the Beverley Hills location in California at least once a month. With this in mind, my reveiew may be biased.
In my opinion, Em Chamas is a bootleg Fogo. The service is mediocre and the lighting is terrible. I purchased 3 Groupons (one for me, one for my mom, and one for my God mom) for my God mother’s birthday since this resturant is closer than Fogo on the plaza. The groupon was for $ 26 for a $ 50 dinner. Great. However, I failed to read the fine print that only one groupon could be used per table with a minimum of 2 guests per ticket, so really only one person can be of benefit of the $ 26 dinner. It is noteworthy that Fogo offers a $ 25 discount at dinner that can be used for up to two people each per table. Unfortunately, we bit the bullet and decided to dine anyway.
This review is not about the misread groupon that was my fault, but more about the service we received. While being seated we overheard another waiter talking about how Em Chamas offered their own «groupon» that was $ 29.95 per person for the weekend. When I asked out sever where we could find that deal she acted as if she didn’t know. So, I asked if I could ask the other waiter myself since she didn’t seem to know. She quickly avoided the question by saying the resturant sent out emails (though clearly the two waiters were just discussing how it was a groupon). I then took it upon myself to find their Facebook page and that is where I came across the coupon for $ 29.95 per person myself. I would think it would be proper customer service for our waiter to direct us to that coupon since she knew we already overheard the deal.
This would not have happened at Fogo. They have the best customer service ever. Anyways, as the night went on my experience got a little better. Though our waitress did refill my sprite with water. The meats were tasty, and the coctails were great, but they never refilled the bread basket and the slices of meat were very slinder. I understand that it is an all you can eat establishment, but the portions there were literally just a taste of the meat.
All in all, my God mother enjoyed herself and that’s all that matters, but I would recommend that if you want a true Brazlian experience, you head over to Fogo de Chao on the Plaza.

I love brazilian steakhouses. Sadly, this restaurant is the biggest joke of a brazilian steakhouse there is. I drove all the way from Chicago to visit my mom for her birthday and I was going to buy her dinner so I thought that this restaurant would be a good choice. We went in with a party of 5 people. We had a long day from visiting a water park and a theme park in one day so we were starving. We came in around 7:45pm today. My brother and I were wearing sleeveless shirts, not knowing that this place do not allow customers walking in with sleeveless clothes. The staff politely told us that rule and gave me and my brother a t-​shirt that we could wear. That was a very good impression so I was kinda excited on what comes next as far as good customer service. Unfortunately, that was the only good part of my whole story because everything went downhill after that. The food was good but there are some little things that servers fail to deliver such as refilling our glasses of water on time, I had to wait so long until I requested it. They never even gave us another serving of banana after the plate has been sitting empty the entire time. We asked for another serving of pao de queijo but they refused to give us any. First, one of the servers said that they ran out of it. Second, they said that they are still making more but don’t know how long it’s going to take before they are ready to be served. And lastly, they told us that they stopped making pao de queijo because its almost closing time (closing is at 9pm). But all these new customers coming in, were served with pao de queijo. I was really pissed right from when they started treating us poorly. Our main server for the night does not even smile and appeared to be stressed from working a job he does not like. Upon receiving the bill, they included a gratuity charge of $ 30+. I have been to many brazilian steakhouses and never in my life I experienced this kind of treatment. So I talked to the manager about the issue and told him that I do not feel obliged to give a dictated amount of tip. I mean, are you kidding me?! After the horrible service and bizzare treatment with no regards to hospitality, I was really unhappy with my overall experience. I have always been a generous tipper but today’s service was the worst I had in my life. Driving 8+ hours from Chicago to see my mother, and we ended up in this kind of a ridiculous situation. This is unbelievable. I would expect from these types of establishment, decent setting and all, to have at least the decency to provide us with respect but instead, they have the audacity to play with us and lie to us. They should have just told us the truth, if what they said is true regarding the pao de queijo that they stopped making because it was almost closing time. Yet after I talked to the manager and voiced out my complaints, they immediately provided us a bowl full of pao de queijo. Just wow. I thought they said they stopped making them. They lied. Period. So if you want to eat at a place where servers lie and have no passion in what they do, come to Em Chamas. If you want to be treated like how customers are treated, then go to Fogo de Chao or Espirito do Sul. Hey guys from em chamas, it is not about what you sell, but how you sell it. In order to enjoy customer retention, you need to get schooled on how to deliver good customer service. I am never coming back to this place even if God forbid it will be the last brazilian steakhouse on earth.

I grew up in Brazil and go to this restaurant 3 – 4 times a year. The service is excellent, the caipirinhas are spot on, the meat is salted perfectly, the feijoada takes you back to Brazil, and the salad buffet is quite nice.
Further they have a wine list with very good yet accessible wines as well as some rather nice bottles of you want to splurge.
This is one of my favorite places in KC.

I really tried. Maybe I’m a Brazilian Steakhouse snob. I have been to several and have had no complaints… well overly stuffed and drenched in the meat sweats but I expect that. Em Chamas is not a chain so I wasn’t expecting the best. The salad/​hot bar was good, however I usually skip it going right for the beef. They say they serve 13 different cuts of beef, chicken, pork, and lamb. Unfortunately I did not see all of these. Of the 6 cuts of beef I only saw 4. No lamb no sausage. I seemed to be on a pay no mind list. The were long periods of time where I had no meat on my plate. I guess I’m used to turning my card over to slow the gauchos down. On a positive note the meat I had, that was cooked the way I like it, was very good. I did settle for some well done beef just to have some. I guess I should thank them for me not over stuffing myself as I usually do.

Had never tried the Brazilian experience before, but we decided to be adventurous. Place is a little pretentious and we waited for about 5 minutes to be seated without a reservation and the place half full.
Once seated we were served right away and our drinks were waiting at the table as we returned from the salad bar.
So much food and so many calories! Everything was good especially the meats. If it is your first time understand that to make it feel more worth the money make sure to get protein often versus going too crazy with salad. Price for two with drinks came out to be 97 before tips. Food was absolutely delicious, service is what I would expect for the price and I know what to expect next time so I am giving it five stars.

I have eaten here probably 25 times or so. But I have never actually eaten from the bar menu. I decided to try my luck with the Mixed Plate $ 14. 10 oz. Of your choice of eight different Meats. I decided on Alcatra, picanha, spiedini, and spicy chicken thighs! Awesome. I started with a Stella Artois from the tap in a chilled glass. I made a salad from the 35 items on the salad bar! And I watched a wonderful basketball game while I enjoy the rhythmic sounds of Bossa Nova. Oh forgot to tell you the soup tonight was minestrone. Normally I expect some meat in the soup but tonight there was none and it was still absolutely amazing. For dessert they have a selection that’s out of this world. And out of my comfort level I’m stuffed. So if you get a chance absolutely stop by and try out the Inferno Lounge at Em Chamas Brazilian Grill!

Great food and great service. Our favorites were the bacon wrapped sirloin and flank steak. The restaurant itself is very nice and spacious. The sides and salad bar was delicious and the service was wonderful. We were seated right at our reservation time and our server brought cheese rolls and the spiced bananas as she arrived to take our drink order.
We were a group that went with small (6 and under) kids. While the oldest of the group ate heartily and was generally well behaved, the meal runs long as you are waiting trying the different meats.
We will definitely return– after I run for another month and find a sitter ahead of time.

My favorite rodizio in Kansas City! What really sets em Chamas apart, in my opinion, is the salad bar/​sides. So many kinds of salads, sides and breads that compliment the meat. The meat itself is very similar to Fogo, but I can’t help but feel extremely underwhelmed with the sides when I visit Fogo. Also Fogo is much more expensive!
Sirloin stuffed with provolone, Carmelized ham, and the garlic steak were my favorite cuts of meat.

We drove well over an hour to get here. I can say it was well worth the drive.
We got in early with reservations and we’re served promptly.
The salad bar was really really good! They had a good mixture salads and sides.
The servers brought well seasoned meets.
The bad thing is the long ride back.
I’d recommend this to all my friends. Even if they had to drive the distance I did.

I’ll admit, I absolutely love the concept of a Brazilian churrascaria… all-​you-​can-​eat salad bar, skewers of meat being hand-​sliced directly onto your plate, refreshing caipirinhas to cleanse the palate! Ahhhh… I’m getting the meat sweats just thinking about it!
For all of the reasons listed above (well, maybe not the meat sweats part), Brazilian steakhouses have become a staple in our household whenever my wife and I get the opportunity (and the money) to go out for a date night. And since it just so happens to be around the corner from where we live, Em Chamas is where we usually end up on such occasions.
One of the things I really like about Em Chamas is the atmosphere. Located in the charming Village of Burlington Creek, I find the ambiance of Em Chamas to be classy and romantic without feeling too stuffy and pretentious. During the wintertime, I really enjoy getting a table up against the big wall of windows overlooking the ice skating rink, with the lights overhead adding even more charm to the meal. OK, really I just enjoy watching kids fall on the ice while I sit in warm comfort, but don’t tell my wife I said that…
The food at Em Chamas is typically very good, but at times can be inconsistent. Of the different Brazilian steakhouses we’ve eaten at, I would argue that Em Chamas has, by far, the best salad bar. So good that we have actually considered coming up to the restaurant and just doing that, although I don’t know that it’d be worth the $ 19 per person to do so. All of the items are kept fresh and in plentiful supply, and they really compliment the rest of the meal (aka the MEATS) perfectly. My personal favs on the salad bar are the romaine salad, the mashed potatoes, and the chimichurri sauce… to die for!!! I seriously put it on everything! And while it’s not really on the buffet, I also really enjoy the cheesy rolls they bring to your table. OK, so now for the meats. This is where the inconsistency comes into play for me. There are times when I’ve gone and have been served really good, tender, piping hot cuts of meat and it’s been fantastic. But on other occasions, the meat was either over-​or-​under cooked (for my preference) and the cuts of meat were fatty and/​or tough. In general, however, I always find enough good meat to fill me up, and my favorites are usually the Picanha, the chicken spiedini, and the marinated pork.
Another thing that I love about Em Chamas is their caipirinhas. Starting around $ 7, these are fantastic cocktails that are worth a visit in and of themselves. They offer multiple flavors and liquor upgrades, but I personally think the regular lime one is the best… no need to pay any more, in my opinion.
Finally, with regard to the service, this is another area where Em Chamas has been hit-​or-​miss for me. First off, if you’re going to have a system that indicates when customers are wanting more meat brought to the table, make sure the servers abide by it. There have been many times when servers offered meats to our table when we didn’t have our «coin» turned to that side, and it made us feel rushed to finish up what we were eating to move on to the next thing. I also want to highlight a disappointing experience we had on our most recent visit. For Valentine’s Day Em Chamas promoted a special menu (for a little extra money) that very clearly suggested that dessert would be included in the purchase price. However, after dinner was over, we were asked if we’d like to try their special dessert, but upon questioning we were told that it’s actually not included in the price we paid. Several other tables near us also indicated that they were under a similar impression. We were then met by a gentleman who I assume was a manager, who confirmed that this had been a common misperception that evening due to poor graphics in their advertisement, but he too maintained that the dessert would cost extra. Frustrated, my wife and I decided to split one of the special desserts, and for $ 7 we should have just ordered another caipirinha. It was a joke — so tiny that I could have sworn it was actually a free add-​on to the meal. But nope… not the case. Needless to say, it left a bad taste in our mouth after an otherwise wonderful meal. In my opinion, if you screw up the marketing of an event, you need to honor it when called out by a customer. Not just admit it was a mistake.
Now granted, that was just one bad experience, but it’s enough that I can’t give Em Chamas 5 stars even though I’ve had 5 star meals there on several occasions. For the price that you pay to eat there, I expect a more consistent and quality experience from both the food and the service.

The meal got off to a bad start. We arrived at 5:30 and it was mostly empty. They asked for my wife’s name and then her cell. We figured for some reason we had to wait. They sat us immediately after recording our information! Then why are you collecting names/​cell numbers and putting it in your system? What are you planning on doing with it? I never got over that move.
The food was good and the service was attentive. They lost me as a customer with that stunt to get our cell numbers

This place is the worst brazilian restaurant in kansas city. It is nothing compared to Fogo de Chao. The service is slow, our server didn’t even smile. We were there for almost 2 hours and they took over 15 minutes to come with one kind of meat. Do not waste your money and just go to fogo. So disappointed

I’ve never had a bad experience here. My wife and I just got done having our first anniversary dinner, and when the staff found out, we were treated like royalty. Every server and gaucho is friendly, professional, and knowledgeable.
The sirloin and the provolone steak are worth every penny, as is the salad bar. Maybe flip your marker to no for the ribs, though.

Food is okay, nothing you’ll crave to come back for. Fogo tastes better for same price.
Atmosphere is nothing too nice. Its like they’re trying to be upscale but pretty much as upscale as Olive Garden.
Service is complete trash. Very snobby hostesses. Calling ahead and reserving a table apparently gets you nowhere. I called in for a 7 o clock reservation but didn’t get sat for 20 minutes. Showed up at 6:55. Went to check in and the couple ahead of us in line to check in, who were walk-​ins, got sat before us? Whats the point of making a reservation if you’re just going to put us in line with walk ins?
Wait staff was also semi rude and just not good at their jobs. Drinks remained unfilled when empty. Asked for our check and didn’t receive it for 15 minutes while watching the waiter walk in and out of the kitchen greeting new tables and such. Clearly we were forgotten. I love it how sh*tty wait staff always put on their best face and all of a sudden turn super kind and attentive when they drop off your check or bring your receipt back to be signed when its tip time.

Is this heaven? No its Em Chamas. The great meat never stopped coming. Visited here for the first time last night and it was nothing less then awesome. We had great service all night long from our waiter and the gentleman cutting our meat. The cold bar was very good and the sides were yummy. But I came for the meat and was not disappointed. Em Chamas was a great place to take my girlfriend on a date. It is a nicer place and highly recommend leaving the kids at home. We had a Groupon and that saved some money (highly recommend). If people think it’s making the place go downhill then you can keep your stuck up ass at home
It is a little pricey but a great place for an anniversary or special date night. If your gonna go to a steakhouse it’s worth spending a little more and going to Em Chamas!

We dined at Em Chamas for the first time to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We enjoyed a quiet atmosphere, good service and very good food.
We enjoyed the salad and side dish options, particularly the kale and bacon salad and mango slaw.
The meat options were very good, particularly the bacon wrapped filet mignon, chicken spiedini and caramelized pit ham.

It’s as if they are trying to be a nice upper scale establishment but fail. Over priced food for the atmosphere you will have.
Crying children was great to listen to on our anniversary.
We dressed nice but found out quick anyone can wear about anything next to pajamas here.
Directly next to sand volleyball, very tacky.
Groupon has ruined this restaurant.
Garozzo’s will keep our business. I’m sad we tried something new and this was it. We will not ever come back or recommend to anyone.

Had never had an interest in the «all you can eat» Brazilian steakhouse concept before, but came here to celebrate a friends birthday dinner last weekend.
Being the only newbie, our waiter (goucho) explained the cold bar, hot bar, meat protocol and the little black and yellow weeble wobble thing that will either make the meat flow nonstop to your table or to halt it immediately.
Cold bar items: pretty good selection, although there were many I had no interest in filling up my plate with.
Hot bar items: yummy garlicky mashed potatoes, steamed seasoned veggies, tasty Brazilian rice (although a bit on the salty side)
Meats: a yummy selection of meats from lamb to sausage, to ham and sirloin stuffed with cheese. Oh my. Meat galore!
The price is steep at $ 35 per person so you’d better like meat to get your money’s worth.

First, this place was where my husband propose to me six years ago. Second, this place is where I go when I’m having a shitty day and want to eat myself to death.
My bestie made reservation for us on Easter Brunch, which included all you can eat meat, salad bar and $ 10 bottomless mimosa!
I’ve always enjoy my visit when I am here and the staff are extremely friendly. The talented Gauchos with the blade and skewered meat, first ask how I like the meat and slices a perfect cut onto my place without having trembling hands!
The Pavlov’s theory kicks into play when the Picanha comes around to our table. My heart skips a beat and I salivate like a stray dog.

Four stars for the food, two stars for our waiter. I know that’s a three but I feel the food made up for it…
My favorite was the salad bar, pork belly and the bacon wrapped filet. I’d even rank them a bit higher than Fogo, food and price wise; yet Fogo’s service is a lot more attentive imo, as the wait staff and meat carvers seem to come around a lot more frequently at Fogo.
Cute and cozy ambience. The little area to the right of the restaurant has a slippery floor, not at all heel friendly… kindly ask to be reseated and they will oblige.
