Dr. Computer

They looked at my computer and found a quick and easy fix (for free)! They even emailed me a link for the part I needed (they researched cheapest and highest rated product they could find on Amazon for me) and they were fast and had great service.

Computer virus vs the flu. I’m not sure which is worse. But I do know when I call Dr. Computer about my computer’s ugly virus he always KNOWS what it is and says… I can fix it and he does!
He always shows me some new things that I’ve never seen before on my computer and that’s extra cool!
If you have computer problems, I can’t imagine you’d find anybody with more skills to repair it. Richard owns this business so your satisfaction is his bread and butter. Try to get that kind of service at the big box stores. I never could successfully accomplish that.

Dr. Computer came to my house to install my new printer. It works and continues to work! As a digital alien, I’m grateful to have a printer that works reliably. My life is so much easier now.

Fixed a slight hardware problem I had… for FREE! :) I was traveling and didn’t have my tools so Dr. Computer fixed it for me in under five minutes. FIVE STARS!!!

I was having issues uploading pictures to different websites. If you love taking pictures and enjoy sharing them on-​line and you aren’t able to do that, your computer has just turned into the biggest ever paperweight and dust collector. I had thought about going to The Geek Squad. I feel there is some comfort in working with a large company or national chain, like if something isn’t fixed properly you can squawk about it and usually someone will step in and take care of it. But, I live in the Bermuda Triangle of Best Buys, so it would involve a longer drive, and schlepping my hard drive across the huge parking lot and into the store.
I did some searching and based my decision to give Dr. Computer a chance on the review by Dave L. The first thing I liked is that I parked 10 feet away from his door, and his office/​store is right there. And as soon as he saw me he jumped up and grabbed the hard drive. He is friendly and easy going and doesn’t make you feel bad for not knowing what you are doing with your computer. He did a tune up and cleaned up some things to make the computer run a little faster. Then he sat with me to make sure I could upload pictures to the different websites I use. Success!
Until…I got home. I couldn’t get things to upload, so I thought it was a connectivity issue. So I called my ISP and they sent out a new modem. Then, tried to hook up the modem and the wireless router again, and I was having trouble getting the wires in the right place. I called Dr. Computer and he talked me through making sure I plugged everything in properly. Still problems. I called him back, he said it may be that the router needs to be reset since I got a new modem and they are not yet on speaking terms. I tried to call the router’s customer service but they were going to charge me a lot of money for the phone calls to figure out what was wrong. So, I gathered up my gumption and read the instructions and followed Dr. Computer’s advice to reset the router. Whew. That worked.
Long story short, I appreciate the follow up calls he allowed me to make to him to help getting things reconnected. I would even pay a small monthly/​annual subscription fee for customer service questions. I know that takes out of his time helping other people. Oh, I also like the hours. If you’re an early riser, you’ll have to wait, but since he’s open until 7:00pm during the week, you can call or swing by after a typical work day. I’m not looking forward to my computer acting up again, but I will return to Dr. Comptuer.

Best place to get your computer fixed in town!

Dr. Computer is nestled in a small, tidy storefront on a residential street in the West Plaza. The business owner is a nice fellow, apparently with years of IT support under his belt, and he brought my 7-​year-​old PC back from the dead. He is conversant in multiple platforms and operating systems. Hours of trolling support forums and asking friends were solved by leaving the machine at Dr. Computer for a few days.
The prices are very reasonable — a small, diagnostic fee followed by the cost of repairs themselves. Much like an auto mechanic, he will check with you before taking cost-​incurring measures.
I’d recommend Dr. Computer especially because it is a local business at a human scale. Without the overhead of huge warehouses and advertising, he can provide great service at reasonable prices, and you can be confident that you aren’t being upsold or taken for a ride.
