Connecting for Good is a nonprofit organization that is bridging the Digital Divide with wireless networks, low cost refurbished PCs and digital life skills training.
History
Established in 2011.
In the Spring of 2011, a small group of nonprofit leaders and IT professionals banded together to conduct a series of training events to teach nonprofit staff members about web sites, online marketing and social media. With the arrival of Google Fiber in Kansas City, this group began working to bring Internet connectivity to low income families.
They formed the first board of directors and incorporated in the State of Kansas in November 2011. Tax status exempt status was received from the IRS in August 2012.
Connecting for Good is bridging the Digital Divide with wireless networks, low cost refurbished PCs and digital life skills training. As a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, it recycles computer equipment that goes to people who have a difficult time affording a computer. Digital life skills training is being offered both at the projects and at libraries and other public venues. The digital life skills classes teach under resourced people how to connect to the Internet.
