Charlie D’s and Son Catfish Cabin

Some of the best catfish I’ve had in Kansas City. The service is excellent and the staff is always friendly. The prices are really good and they have daily specials. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been here since being in KC, but they know my face by now. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is located in an old run down strip that makes you question whether to eat there. Also there was no one there besides a person picking up their call in order. There is a known saying if no one is there it must not be very good. As I entered the lady that took the order was cleaning and the smell was very strong. I was turned off by that but I got there about 6:30 and I asked what time did they close and she stated they close at 8 p.m. I guess she was getting a head start to her closing duties. I placed my order and the cook kept peering from behind the counter as if he was wondering what I was thinking of the place. It took an enormous amount of time to get my order even though it was made to order. That initiated in my mind that I will never return to this place again because the customer service was poor, I didn’t feel welcomed, and the terribly long wait. I decided to sit inside to eat the food to make further observations of the traffic. I ordered two meals to split with my daughter which was fried fish and chicken wings. The food was smoking hot but not fresh at all. The sides was mac & cheese which was the best thing I had and greens which were canned with a burnt taste which was served with cornbread that I didn’t eat. The catfish tasted like a fishy muddy taste and was not a good quality. The fried chicken wings was nothing outstanding and tasted like tough and flavorless meat.
Pros: Mac & Cheese, Clean establishment
Cons: Bad Quality of chicken and fish not flavorful.
