People often ask me what it is about Buttonwood that makes us unique in an industry that is defined by legal and regulatory conformity. In these days where the greed of the big Wall Street firms is being revealed, our differentiation has much to do with where the concept for Buttonwood came from.

Before founding Buttonwood, Jon McGraw, President, worked for more than a decade managing a regional office for a nationwide investment brokerage firm. He oversaw and worked with brokers that managed more than 100,000 accounts for over 25,000 clients representing more than $ 1 Billion in investable assets.

When that firm was sold to a bank, he knew without a doubt — based on everything heard over the years — a huge bank conglomerate was not where our investors wanted to end up. So acting upon the comments, complaints, ideas, and wishes heard over the years these became the founding philosophy for Buttonwood Financial Group.

Business Owner

Jon McGraw has been providing investment guidance and consultation for clients regarding all facets of their financial lives for the past 20 years. Jon progressed from the offices of Jessup, Josephthal and Quick & Reilly in Denver /​Boulder Colorado to become the area manager of a six-​state Midwest region for Quick & Reilly. Today he holds the title of Founder and President of Buttonwood Financial Group in Kansas City, a full service Wealth Management company with over $ 300 million in investment assets under direct management. During his career, Jon has worked with over 45,000 individual clients and has been the supervising manager for over $ 1 Billion in client assets.

Jon is married, lives in Kansas City, Missouri, and spends his personal time working with several non-​profit groups in the greater Kansas City area. His passions include the enjoyment of live jazz as well as charitable support through The Buttonwood Foundation.
