Secret Island

We took the 9am tour on Saturday and it was our group of 11 and just an additional 5 – 6 people, which was great. We practically had the «island» to ourselves for the 2.5 hours. If it would have been more crowded, the experience would have been worse. The next boat that came over at 1130 when we were leaving was FULL.

After reading the reviews, I was personally scared about how crowded the «secret» island was going to be. For $ 25.00 (Kamaiana), you really get yours moneys worth. They quickly charter you across this small body of ocean to another dock, through an awesome forest path and it opens up to an «island.» There are paddle boards, kayaks, hammocks, beach chairs, volleyball nets, swings, etc. For the 2/2.5 hours we were out there, not one of the members of our group of 6 was bored. They offer glass bottom boat rides out to chinaman’s hat where they point of honu and showcase Kualoa Ranch’s stunning ridges.
For the price of renting one paddle board for a day, I would highly recommend this little touristy adventure :)

The «secret island» is nice (not so secret if you ask me) just make sure you ask the staff if the kayaks has holes or not because they let us use the one with holes. Also, make sure that you don’t fall off your kayak because the staff there aren’t very helpful. Not worth $ 35+ tax if you ask me.

Not a secret at all filled w tourist. Dont waste your time. Boat ride is half hour for nothing. Tahitian drums have no place as hawaiian adventure.

Don’t waste your time. Not enough equipment for the amount of people on the tour. People leaving their crap in hammocks, not even laying in them. When other people want to use them. Rude adults. Beautiful view and beach but that’s about it.

My family from he mainland and I had an amazing time the boat rides were the best part. And stand up paddle boarding and the hammocks and the pinging also some great beach games. It’s so beautiful the backside of the koolau mountain has the most stupendous view. Good for tourist and mainland visitors

What a beautiful beach! Loved being here in the quiet, doing some kayaking and just chillin’. We loved our boat ride out to see the turtles and see Chinaman’s hat. It’s truly beautiful out there. This area must be protected from being built-​out. Keep it just as it is… it’s a treasure!

We had planned to visit secret island with my family, to celebrate my cousin’s birthday. I’ll start sharing my experience from the get-go…reservations. I booked and paid for my reservations online. My fellow locals, the site asks you to select where you have hotel accommodations, and the drop down is very long. At first, I did not see the «Kamaaina» option so I booked it at the regular rate. I was later told by my other cousin whom booked their tickets via phone, that they DO have a local rate. So I called Kualoa Ranch, it was after hours so I left a message. I expected a call the next day during the opening hour, still no call. So at around noon, I called them to see if they got my message. No acknowledgement about the message, but they said they would refund the difference when I show them my ID at check in, which they said would take 5 – 6 business days which I was fine with. Oh in case you’re wondering if you can actually reserve Kamaaina rates online, yes you can! I referred to the website again, low and behold… you have to scroll down all the way to «K», to select «Kamaaina». Tsk Tsk tsk, this should be more visible and should not be an option listed under hotel accommodations, daaaah! It would’ve definitely saved all the hassle.
The day of our family fun day brought 20 of us together on a short road trip to Secret Island. When we got there we were running a little behind schedule and so I called ahead to let Kualoa Ranch know, which they said was fine. As we were standing on line to check in, there were three people on the computers, two were helping customers. There were only four of us in line, three in my party. There was no acknowledgement from the staff. Disappointing. When one person was done helping a customer, she walked away from her computer and went over to another lady who just finished helping a customer and started talking story, completely ignoring us. Another disappointment. Finally when the third employee was done jamming on her keyboard, she looked up and helped us one by one. By the time the three of us had checked in, the other two employees were still off to the side talking stories. We decided to park at the secret island dock since we had many little ones and a lot of stuff with us. The tour guide was a really tall Samoan man, who was super friendly, and appeased the kids. When we got to the island another employee came with an ATV and suggested we put the kids, coolers and bags in his trailer. It was fun for the kids I guess, but I was anxious and worried. We made the mistake of waiting to pee, we ended up having to use the portable toilets, which sit on what looks like a small floating barge with its own motor, that’s secured to the dock. The toilets were as expected, filthy! When we finally got to the beach side, it was awesome, like our own private oasis. There was a lot to keep you entertained, volleyball, hammocks to relax, swings, ping-​pong, tented picnic tables, kayaks, paddle boards, sand toys for the kids and of course the ocean. They provide life vests of all sizes which you have to wear if you’re using the boards and kayaks. We had 2.5 hours of awesome fun! When it was about time to leave, most of us were in the water and he staff yells out that we had 15 minutes to change. We quickly packed up and by the time we got to the boat, there was no where to sit. We sat at the end where there are no benches, kids, adults and even a pregnant one, we all sat there. The person who operated the boat on the way back was someone different, and he was in such a hurry to end his shift that he was going full throttle and didn’t realize that the front end of the boat where we were sitting was too heavy and began to take in water. WE ALL GOT SOAKED with the muddy fishpond water. All our kids and our bags, soaked! He didn’t even realize it until we started shouting. Fricken douche! When we docked, he was out of there quick with not even an apology. With no where to wash off. We all tried to wipe ourselves with sani-​cloths, wet-​ones and baby wipes. Some of the kids were in fresh clothes and had to change out again. After settling down and packing up the car, we drove home with the kids knocked out. Overall, the experience was awesome. I’m still waiting for my difference to be refunded BTW and next time I’m making sure that my family is sitting on the benches in that boat on the way back. I’d definitely recommend this place to visitors and if you just want to experience something new. Just make sure you use the bathroom before you get there.

Good place for a party. I don’t think they have enough equipment for the number of people that they had there today. Didn’t feel crowded but just had to wait a lot to use stuff. Bathrooms are not my cup of tea either. Beautiful place though and the lunch is pretty good.

Took the family to Kualoa’s secret island today… we had a fun time.
Ok Kualoa… stop with the deception… it is not a secret island… it just a private beach on the island of Oahu!
So you start at the Kualoa ranch to check in. Then you take a less than five minute bus ride to the fishpond… then take a 5 minute pontoon boat ride across the pond (with beautiful views of the mountain range)…then arrive at the secret «BEACH» not Island.
Tips:
Pack like you are going to the beach… bring your own snacks and drinks. Nothing is sold on the beach. There is a nice gift store and café at the ranch. …use the bathrooms at the gift shop before you leave… because there are only outhouses on the beach.

Glass bottom boat (25 min ride out into the bay… water was not that clear so we didn’t look down through the glass… we just stood up along the railing… we saw a few turtles… I definitely would recommend this activity).
Conclusion:
Cool for those looking for all inclusive beach activities. …and to try each. But if you are looking for great snorkeling prob just go to a snorkeling spot… if you want to kayak prob go to a kayaking place… if you wanna stand up paddleboard with friends… prob go somewhere else bc you all won’t be able to get a board at the same time –only 4 boards… etc etc. But good for a package of activities for a good price! Kids liked trying the different things.
Great employees and service (friendly, Japanese translation too).
It was fun to try once but probably won’t go back again.

One of the few places on Oahu that I can feel like I am still living on Molokai. It really is remote– take a boat to go there and bring everything that you need for the day.
I went there with work buddies. It is a great open day where you can go out on canoes, swim, enjoy the ocean and be in nature in general instead of inner city feeling many people have in daily life.
The staff are really helpful and they love the outdoors too.
I believe that a few tv shows/​movies have been filmed there and for good reason– it is a wonderful place to take pictures.
I can understand negative experiences posted here from others– NOT knowing what happened but I can understand that it could be that it is a local verses tourist situation where the tourist is either given preference or the local is based on who the worker is– it is not as big as a Polynesian Culture Center where they know how to cater to tourists– Secret Island is just not that big to be able to provide better customer service.

The address is not correct. It is not on Johnson road. Johnson road is a private road and you cannot access the island. Do not drive down Johnson road.. If you wish to go to secert beach go to Kualoa ranch.

What a waste of money! Beautiful island, but not enough of the promised equipment. No glass bottom boat, and rude hosts when you hit the island. We asked for a paddle board and the host went directly to a kid playing and said «hey I need you to get off, a tourist needs it». We told the host never mind, we weren’t going to take it from a kid having fun!
Tip: if you have already purchased the tickets, bring a 6 pack! It’s the only thing that would have made it enjoyable!

My girl and I had a great time. We went there for the Labor’s Day weekend. My 6yr old had the fun of playing table tennis, playing in the sand with the provided sand toys, and swimming in the water with the provided life vest with other kids. And also she kick back on the hammock. For the kama’aina rate, it’s worth it!

PICTURE PERFECT PARADISE
Secret Island Beach is a fantastic place to take guests! We live on Oahu but I never found this place until my friends came into town. We chose the 3hr excursion as one of our tours through Kualoa Ranch (make advance reservations!) and it was perfect for our group, which included kids ages 5 to 55. Highly recommend.
TIPS…BRING YOUR OWN:
drinks, snacks, water bottle, sunscreen, lunch, towel, change of clothes, bag for wet clothes… pack like you are going to a beach! There is a tub with running water to wash your hands and porta potties if you need to use them.

PARKING
We parked at Kualoa Ranch, checked in and boarded a bus around 9am which took us to the dock near the Moli’i fishpond. If you watched LOST, this dock was the submarine dock:
PICTURESQUE
We boarded the floating pontoon-​like boat to cross the Moli’i fishpond, and started taking pictures immediately of the spectacular views of the Koolau mountain range during the 5 minute ride.
Once on the other side, a short 2 minute walk rewarded
us with a gorgeous almost-​private beach with views from Chinaman’s hat to Kaneohe MCB!
ACTIVITES
Stand up paddling — great for first timers like us. stay by the double buoys.
kayaking — great workout
snorkeling — I saw a huge sea turtle!
paddling — the boys took the canoe out to the sandbar, watch for jellyfish
volleyball — we didn’t do this

YOU DON’T LIKE SUN?
There is something for everyone. Huge coconut palm trees provide shade for the hammocks, and the covered picnic table area was great place for a snack break.

Looking for a great place to throw a party? Secret Island is the perfect place to keep your guests entertained with stand up paddle boards, kayaks, snorkeling and everything in between.
A great friend of ours invited us out to experience a day of relaxation and family fun. Everyone brought their favorite dishes and drinks. We all split up to eat, play and have fun in the sun. My daughter absolutely loved the volleyball sand pit and ping pong tables. The adults really loved the hammocks ;)
The only downside would be the bathroom situation. Your only option is the porta potty. If you can deal with that, you’re good to go! Also, if you aren’t a pro at changing your clothes using a towel as a shield, there are small changing rooms on the island.
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Overall, we had a really great time! Would definitely go back again.

I love the way marketing has a creative imagination. It’s more of a secluded beach than secret island. But this spot is definately great for a stress-​free day. All the good for a great beach day are already there. No fuss. Snorkels, nets, batminton, volley, tables, chairs, grills. And as I tell you think from the luxury of my hammock, I can say this with easy, «Aaah, lucky you stay Hawaii.

less crowded. Which means you get to try all the activities without a long wait!
Activities
Stand up paddle board — the most entertaining activity they had. It was some much fun trying this for the first time. Be sure to go out a little away from the red buoy so if you fall you won’t fall on rocks.
Snorkeling — this was pretty entertaining as well. There wasn’t much seaside activity to be really interesting though. But I did see a green sea turtle!
Kayaking — they have two people kayak, but you can ride it with one. It a good workout for your arms.

They also have showers and changing rooms on site.
Highly recommend this place so you don’t have to pay for all the rental stuff to try to find out what you like!
