Pah Ke’s Chinese Restaurant

My realtor gave me a gift card for Pah Ke’s, so I thought that I should use it before I lose it!
I’ve been here several times — a couple of times for large parties, and a few times for a quick dine in or take out. It’s not the most modern and it’s not the newest Chinese restaurant. In fact, it has that comfortable, homey, old school feel.
There’s ample, free parking in the lot which is shared with a laundromat, a yarn shop, and a tattoo parlor! Yes, a wide variety of businesses occupy this 2-​story building with Pah Ke’s on the ground floor. It’s next to the Kaneohe Post Office on Kamehameha Highway.
Highlights of the food include «No MSG». Check out the House Specialties such as Big Island Hamakua Tomato Salad with Macadamia Nut Pesto & Waianae Goat Cheese… by Chef Raymond Siu. However, the Soft Won Ton Min (gravy style) was a bit bland. The noodles were on the thicker, softer side. Honey Walnut Shrimp had a thick, soft breading — I wasn’t too fond of it. On the other hand, I’ve had the Won Ton Min — the shrimp in each little dumpling — this is a winner — yum!
The desserts deserve to be highlighted. Since it’s almost Chinese New Year, fresh gau (brown mochi) is available — either plain or with coconut. Also, there were fluffy, white rice cakes in the glass case at the cash register. If you ask for the special desserts, you may get a Lilikoi Mousse Cake or Fresh Guava Cake! It’s said that the baker used to work for a well-​known hotel in Waikiki… (big hint!) Get the Soy Milk Custard — so ono!
They are open daily from 10:30 am to 9:00 pm. Give them a try if you’re in the neighborhood. It’s comfort food with friendly service!

On new years eve we had no plans we live in apartment complex were kids cannot even enjoy popping fireworks, so we decided to stay home and eat out. We had the lemon chicken a family favorite and this place made it so good just like I remembered it to be since I was a little girl. Brought back so many memories when my grandma would also enjoy it. We also ordered their shrimp fried rice, duck, egg fuyoung and crispy gaugee mein was so delicious must have that sweet and sour sauce and one thing about this place you don’t have to ask for the sweet and sour sauce it already comes with the order. I love chinese and this is the place to get it from.

I’m sorry but this place had the worst food of any place I’ve eaten Panda Express is better than here! Also, it is very expensive here. Do not eat here! Save your money

I used to drive into town for Chinese food. Now. I have finally give Pah Ke’s a chance and there is no going back to town for my Chinese fix. Steamed fish with green onion and ginger, chicken salted fish fried rice, char su, gau gee, shrimp with vegetables, you name it you can find it here AND it’s delicious to boot!

Always good eats at Pah Ke’s. I’m from town but never have any gripes when it comes to the drive to Kaneohe for good chinese :)
I’m never in charge of ordering, but as for descriptions of food: duck bun is ALWAYS killah, and the mango fish pudding thing for dessert? YES PLEASE!!!
You can BYOB here, so that’s a little plus, and the staff is always helpful and attentive. Don’t want to scoop your own food? They’ll take care of it (I prefer to do my own, as the extra large portions make me happy). Check ‘em out if you have a big gathering, party, whatever.

My husband and I have very different ideas of 1^st birthday parties and I knew I had to find a middle ground for us. Pah Ke fit the bill. Large enough to hold 150 people but small enough to limit me in my grand vision (no bouncy house)! They were really easy to work with and super helpful in making this the perfect party for both my husband and I. They have several set party menu but allowed us to substitute items. We also were able to bring in our own beverages. The service on the day of the party was great. We loved having our event there.
The green bean and ground pork is a favorite. Also try the scallop with crispy spinach and asparagus. Make sure you leave room for dessert.

I love Pahke’s chinese restaurants excellent foods and EXCELLENT services! i love the owners susan and her husband and yvonne, excellent services all the time!!!

Chef Siu & family provide a relaxing family experience. We’ve got four kids & being served the food– literally– on your plate, means mom & dad eat hot food every time. Save room for the dessert platter– his pastry skills honed at Alan Wong’s are in full force highlighting local farm fresh ingredients like mango & Lilikoi. Truly a Kaneohe gem– easy parking, big tables & food delivered quickly to your table. Worth the drive from town!

Pah Ke’s is a great family run restaurant in Kaneohe. Not only is the food delicious, the owners are very friendly and always make sure you have a good experience. We love Pah Ke’s so much, we had our daughter’s first birthday here.
In particular, I enjoy the Singapore street noodle, the Green bean and ground pork, and the eggplant.
The Ambiance is casual, and the large tables are good for large groups. For our daughter’s birthday, they were very accommodating. We had about half the restaurant set aside for us, we even had a small open area for the small ones to play. Everyone was happy with the food, and the price was quite reasonable.

Very good. Everything scrumptious. Walnut shrimp, taro basket great. Went with a big party after a memorial on the ocean. Great way to celebrate a good friends life.

VERY UNSANITARY PLACE!
My cousin and her family ate here a few weeks ago and found a ROACH in the fried rice as she was eating! And god knows what else dishes the roaches/​bugs go into.
And by reading some of the other reviews, roaches is a problem!

Living in Kaneohe, always in search of a good meal. This restaurant makes pork hash with salted fish (haam yue in Cantonese), one of my all-​time favorite dishes, one that my Popo (grandma) made for me when I was a kid, and then every time I came home from college to visit her. It takes 20 minutes, and worth the wait.
Most of the other dishes are what you would find in most typical American Chinese restaurants with a local twist.
One thing that may surprise you is that their desserts are not typical of most American Chinese restaurants.

Pah Ke’s, located in the shopping center across the street from Walgreen’s, is a classic Kaneohe Chinese restaurant.
Favorites of mine are the steamed flounder with shoyu, ginger and green onion, minute chicken with cake noodle, salt and pepper fish and the lunch plate and the dinner plate.
Take-​out is highly recommended, as the restaurant itself gets busy at around dinnertime. Also, the restaurant shares a parking lot with a shopping center-​full of other businesses, so beware of parking. Also, when they have «restaurant buy-​outs», they will only tend to accommodate take-​out.
Service is quick and friendly, although if it’s busy, it might be a bit slower. Don’t forget to try their desserts! The owner Raymond was a former pastry chef, so there are a variety of gourmet sweets for you to sample!

Pah ke’s is a favorite on the windward side. I remember coming here as a child getting my fill in noodles and gau gee.
I was there celebrating a wedding. The whole restaurant was booked but they continued to accommodate take out orders. It was a 7 course dinner.
It’s hard to mess up Chinese food. With the various Chinese food places here in Hawaii, Pah Ke’s fits the bill.

Overall impression:
Great food, great service, clean. I’ll definitely be back.

Positives:
–food was delicious (walnut shrimp, vegetable fried rice, flounder, spring rolls)

Negatives:
–interior could use some better decorating. Very dimly lit (although I guess it saves electricity)
Three of us came here for lunch. We had the walnut shrimp, spring rolls, vegetable fried rice, and the flounder. The food was delicious. The walnut shrimp was among the best I’ve had (not too much mayonnaise, good shrimp to breaking ratio, crispy walnuts with just enough glaze but not goopy). The flounder was also very good. The portion sizes were on the smaller size but decent.
The best thing about this place was the customer service. We were greeted when we came in and they always checked on how we were doing. Water and tea were constantly refilled. And this was unique-​they made sure to serve the first portion of whatever dish we were eating to all of us. I’ve had that happen for soup but not used to it happening for all of my dishes and especially not for lunch! The staff were all very friendly and polite.
The only thing that prevents me from giving this five stars is that the interior decorating could be redone (I know this is very expensive, so not a necessity for me to return) and maybe the plates could’ve had slightly more food for the price. But overall, I really liked this restaurant.

Pah Ke’s is a go to restaurant for graduations, birthdays, and other large gatherings. They have a large, open dining area, and the standared round, 10-​top tables. Staff are efficient at family-​style dining and will work with you to create a menu and budget that’s right for you.
Some consistently good winners are the Wor Won Ton Min, Kaneohe Taro Duck, Chinese Chicken Salad, and Honey Walnut Shrimp. And make sure to save room for the Soy Milk Custard dessert that comes with mango sorbet, fruit, and coulis, I always get one no matter how full I am or if another dessert was served, it’s a thick pudding consistancy, vanilla flavored, and so so good.
If you’re in Kaneohe looking for Chinese, Pah Ke’s is the place to go, they’re open for lunch and dinner.

After a day of hiking, my family was HUNGRY! We decided on a Pah Ke’s simply because they were one of the few places still open on New Year’s Day. We rarely choose a Chinese restaurant since I think most Chinese places here suck compared to Hong Kong cuisine which is truly unfair. Anyway, we took a chance and are simply thrilled about it!
I called and asked if they they were open. Not only did she politely respond to my questions but asked how many were in our party and said the table would be set up by the time we got there! Friendly faces greeted us when we arrived.
The menu has plenty of choices from the old fashioned Chinese food to the exotic, fusion frou frou stuff. We tried the short rib with specialty entrée that had veggies and an interesting sauce that had hints of curry. The meat was SUPER tender. A bit pricy but well worth it. The combination fried rice was a hearty, tasty dish that my family gobbled up quickly. The sizzling plate of bbq beef was also a winner. These guys were on skewers which was a nice, different take on it. Perfect for kids! The honey walnut shrimp was the Americanized version which I don’t particularly care for but the flavor was spot on. The candied walnuts were the bomb!!!
You definitely can’t leave there without dessert. The chef there apparently worked at Roy’s, Halekulani, and other fine establishments and his desserts were very indicative of this. The banana split was THE BEST banana split EVER… as was the chocolate dome and the soy milk custard. Seriously just come for the dessert if you don’t care for Chinese food! The prices for the dessert are super CHEAP compared to what it should be at 5 star establishments.
Definitely will be coming back here again to try their crispy kau gee which is also fab as well as their other desserts. I’m super determined to try their entire dessert menu. I’m so glad we found this place by default!

Fifteen years in business and better than ever. Pah Ke’s really deserves 5 Stars.
Saturday Night: The place was packed! 6 or 7 very large parties which appeared to be family celebrations. But, they were busy with regular customers in groups of 3 to 6 too. The busy staff, including the owners, were taking it all in stride.
On it: Everyone was in hyperdrive and moving quickly and efficiently. Orders were taken quickly, food cooked quickly and delivered hot and fresh from the wok. Hot tea and water refilled about every 10 minutes. Bill came quickly… everything just moved so smoothly… and they made it look so easy!
BYOB: Several of the big parties had brought their own wine. A very minimal corkage fee ($ 7 I think) gets you expert wine care and serving skills. This allows for a festive party when desired. Very nice.
Food: Authentic Hong Kong style cooking using quality ingredients. No short cuts are used. Since I’ve eaten here from the first week that they were open till tonight, I’ve noticed a steady improvement in quality. Plus, they have some local style fusion dishes that only they make. Icing on the cake, so to speak, is that they have an amazing assortment of special desserts. See the photo section to see some of these. They have to be seen to be appreciated!
So that’s my update. I recommend Pah Ke’s fully. I am so thankful that they are close to my house in Kaneohe. They are as good as it gets!

Customized rehearsal dinner, charged by the table. Service was brisk. The savories were executed nicely, fresh and not too greasy. Chinese chicken salad and winter melon soup were simple but tasty. Chow fun was reasonably saucy. Peking duck was lean and carved tableside to be eaten on plush Manapua buns with hoisin sauce, rice, and shrimp chips on the side. Honey glazed walnut shrimp were lightly battered in cornstarch and not overcooked. Orange chicken was about as generic tasting as the house Hong Kong noodles.
Surprisingly, their dessert menu is worth saving room to try. Pastry cakes meet minimum requirements on the sweet side, and the Pah Ke style banana split with fresh fruits and banana ice cream is presented like an art form. The dud of the batch was a slightly grainy mango mousse, closely followed by the five-​layer red velvet cake. The clear winner was the chocolate decadent with gold leaves: adequately named as a generous mouthful tastes so rich that your sweet tooth is sated in seconds.
