For early risers, Juice 101 and KimoBean Coffee open at 6AM. Our Foodland Farms grocery/​gourmet store is open 6AM-​11PM seven days a week and offers fresh and prepared foods.

Entertainment: Free Polynesian Hula Show with Fire every Monday and Thursday at 7PM with cultural activities such as free lei-​making classes starting at 5:30PM. Hawaii’s only 4-​D Adventure Ride, located in the Fine Hawaiian Gift Gallery, open daily from 10AM-​9PM. Come cool off in our Dancing Waters fountain for kids of all ages.

History

Established in 2006.

Located near ancient Hawaiian fishponds and the Puako Petroglyph field, The Shops at Mauna Lani has become one of the most popular shopping destinations on the Kohala Coast.

After visiting Hawaii year after year and falling in love with the Big Island, Bill decided there was a need for stores, restaurants and other businesses to serve both the local community and visitors to the island. Thus was born The Shops at Mauna Lani. Bill planned and reviewed every detail to make it a place of business and fun, right down to the dancing waters fountain that delights young and old as a great way to cool off on a warm Hawaii day. He hoped to share his love of the island by offering free cultural activities including a twice-​weekly Polynesian Hula and Fire show so that everyone could feel the same joy he did. Hilo, HI
Some great restaurants here, but not very much shopping at all. Very slow paced shopping area with little to no sales. Feels very touristy, definitely not somewhere you would get a lot of shopping done. However, because the only grocery store in the area is here, and there’s a good selection of dining places makes it somewhere to visit to get some good food. Compared to the rest of Mauna lani, this place could use quite a few upgrades. definitely not the best restrooms we’ve encountered in the area.

Dinner at Monstera
brought us here while staying at the Fairmont Orchid. We utilized the complimentary Mauna Lani Resort shuttle which was a quick 5 minute hop away.
The Shops is a small strip style mall, yet very cosmetically appealing and similar to other strip malls found in the resort areas within the islands. The tenant list includes a handful of restaurants including Tommy Bahama & Ruth’s Chris, a supermarket, touristy shops, a 4D theater «ride,» and local businesses. No food court.
OVERALL:
Not a shoppers paradise but at least it’s something to do in the sleepy area.

Not much to do here but kept very clean…
The shops were lacking (you are better off going down the street to the Kings Shops).
However, you will find the parking is great and the location is very clean and well kept.

Waimea, HI
AVOID IN THE MORNING!!! An ear-​piercing leaf blower is operated throughout the shopping plaza for an extended period of time almost every morning.

This is a small shopping center. But had great shows and classes for kids the grocery store had a great selection of poke and fresh fish selections to make at the condo. We didn’t find many places that sell souvenirs in the shops there.

The shops here were handy as they were near the hotel and there was a convenience store/​grocery store on site, which was handy. There is a good mix of stores here if you are missing something.

Bothell, WA
Can’t really speak to the shops… just your typical tourist strip mall stuff with higher-​end galleries or name-​brand stores mixed in. We went there specifically for the «hula» show. Our brochure said shows at 6 PM and 7PM but when we got there at 5:15 PM for the 6:00 show, it was only one show at 7PM. We passed the time by sitting at the lei-​making class. The auntie there was very nice. I chatted with her a bit and learned that she was also the kumu (teacher) for the upcoming performance. She explained that she was a kumu for tahitian dance and had recently taken several 1st place titles for soloists that competed. The show was actually a bit disappointing. I don’t think the performers were part of her top corps. The musicians were live which was a plus but the girls needed to look a little more enthused about their dancing. There was only one true hula number and the rest were tahitian and maori. It wasn’t a bad show, and the men were pretty versatile with their numbers, but the ladies need to kick it up a notch and look like they love what they’re doing.

Eerily empty when I was there, but there seem to be a good variety of standard tourist-​mall type stores here for the people staying at the local resorts. Lots of parking, pretty setting. Good prices in the little market, actually, which was refreshing.

We went for the first time to see the hula & fire dance show after living here for 4 years. It is a free show they do every Monday and Wednesdays at 6pm. It was a very good show and well worth the time to go and see.

Not much to say about Mauna Lani shops as its just a shopping center. Its nice to have a place to go thats a bit closer to where I stay (mauna kea) than the king/​queens shops. Its not very big but there is a small supermarket, a few high end restaurants, and some other random stores.

Orange County, CA
The 4 stars is for the entertainment, classes, and food. There are not as many stores as Queen’s and King’s Shops near the Hilton, but I came here almost every day since we were staying at the Mauna Lani.
I LOVED the free lessons and shows they had here daily. I took the Ukulele and hula lessons and the hula/​tahitian show was comparable to ones I’ve seen at luaus. You can also take affordable paid classes for an awesome «Ipu» (gourd) souvenir that Hawaiians use as a musical instrument.
Because I went to every store, I am going to give my brief reviews on them:
1. Monstera Restaurant– Modern, Attentive/​Knowledgeable waiter, good quality fish, a bit pricey.
2. Art Galleries– Strolling the shops and checking great local Hawaiian art is what I like to do when it’s too hot out during the day or after dinner. I also enjoyed the art galleries at the other resort and along my drive south of Kona.
3. Kohala Goldsmiths– I chuckle whenever I think of the owner of this store. The semi-​eccentric owner was quite nice to allow my bf borrow a tool to open up his broken watch. This guy is CRAZY about OPALS and has a huge collection of them. He LOVES to talk about them so if you have some time to spare and like gems, go learn about opals from him.
He has a beautiful collection of them.
4. Juice 101– Delicious smoothies and sandwiches. Yes, the smoothies are a little pricey, but it’s probably the cheapest breakfast/​lunch you’ll get at the Mauna Lani.
5. Market– The market is pricier than others considering it’s at a resort, but it’s fine if you just want to buy some fruits and snacks. Also, in the evening, they have chicken and some masubis discounted.

Nice area to walk around and there’s a nice assortment of shops including high end stores… not much foot traffic though. I enjoyed the Queen’s and King’s Shops better. However, it is worth a visit.

they have a free hula show at 715pm and 815pm on most days. it’s a nice family show if you are looking for something mellow to do for an hour after sundown. the 3 girls dance quite well, and there’s a pseudo story to the history of 20th century hula dancing /​music evolution.
the shops are quite nice — the layout is well done. the stores are on the higher-​end, but what do you expect, you’re at a nice resort.
